Thank you for reporting this. Truly awful. Saturday afternoon, our park is a scary place. Please keep us posted if you hear of this was random? Not sure we should even walk in that area anymore.

We’re not likely to get more from police than the summary I added a few minutes before your comment. The victim saying he didn’t know who stabbed him, is all we have … although keep in mind it’s from police trying to talk to someone critically injured and likely bound for emergency surgery on hospital arrival ….

There are still a lot of creeps hanging out in the park even after the city swept the encampment. I worry about the young familys with kids playing on the castle equipment.

I think it’s pretty bold to assert the attacker was an encampment ‘creep’. That park also has a history of robberies and attacks by housed neighborhood criminals.

It’s absolutely not a bold assertion.

People who are visiting Roxhill Park to recreate should continue to do so or we risk losing the park to those who are not there for healthy recreation. Truly sad that the park became a magnet for a drug stop, violence, for the unhoused to set up their tents and acquire tons of garbage. The city needs to stop the free range living concept of set up where you want, stop the free tent giveaways, and keep the parks free of the unhoused people. The social safety net is the only option for the unhoused, not our parks, greenbelts, sidewalks…. unless they can figure out how to get themselves housing.  The mayor needs to get those shelter beds open!

Agree 100% that we need to go out of our way to utilize every inch of Roxhill Park. I walked through there earlier this week in the late afternoon and sat at one of the picnic tables to doom-scroll on my phone. I looked into the gaping pit where the giant tree was uprooted to put out the bog fire. This evening I’ll ride my mountain bike through the trails a bit.

I really hope they are okay, I was there at the park and called 911. A women found him and her phone was dead and came up to me and my husband while we were watching my daughter play. I could hear him groaning and asking for help but the women told me not to go in the bushes cause it was very gruesome and luckily SPD arrived very quickly to take care of it. Very scary and such a shame for this to happen in an area with so many families and young kids. I almost feel like they should just tear that green space down. Too many places to hide and gather. I know theres not many other places for them to go but we should be keeping these spaces safe for families. It’s not fair. This is the only park in walking distance to us and I go there often to get out of the house with my daughter . But it’s just gotten so unsafe and makes me really sad. Truly hope the man and woman are okay and they find who ever did this. Stay safe!

I think personally we shouldn’t not tear down the bushes or trees in the park because all that is allowing people fear get to the best of them and why should we tear down all trees and bushes just because of a handful of people who have been living in a park that is illegal, if the city would have not allowed this to occur than people would have not been living in the park and personally a person can get stabbed anywhere in their environment hence the lady in the pink shirt that stabbed people in New York last week or so. In all honesty people are more likely to get hurt by individuals that they know and not by a random stranger.

It feels like a lot more than a handful. I go to the park often and I watch so many different people go in and out and gather near/in the green space. I see drug deals happen constantly and people doing drugs and high while kids are actively playing. And the kids can’t even use the bathroom there because there’s always people congregating and doing drugs by it. It’s really sad and unfair. I wish the city would do more to protect this area. The community really needs places like this for families to get together. I don’t want it to go away either but what else is there to do?? And I know stuff like this can happen anywhere but this is def a hot spot.

Enough is enough. The city cleared Roxhill Park, and within hours the encampments were back along the east side fence line. Residents have reported these issues repeatedly, yet the same problems continue over and over again.Camping in a public park is illegal, and the continued tolerance of this behavior sends the message that laws do not matter. Compassion and accountability are not mutually exclusive. Seattle must find the balance between offering help and enforcing the law. The people who use Roxhill Park every day deserve a safe and welcoming environment, not a constant cycle of encampments, crime concerns, and ineffective responses.

I checked in here again to see if the shooting was random. Totally agree, when we were there last week and one of the kids had to go to the restroom, we went home- bathrooms were taken over. Now we don’t know if it’s even safe to be there, it’s our neighborhood park and I wish enough people were concerned that we could take back our park. But it seems (like us probably), we all just gave up.

Just heard over the scanner: An SPD unit radioing in that they’re on “directed patrol” (meaning they’ll hang out for a while unless an emergency elsewhere interrupts” at Roxhill Park. First time I’ve heard that.

      • 1994 September 7, 2026 (9:51 pm)

Does that mean the SPD will walk through the park? Ride bikes through?

Sorry, comment time is over.
