UPDATE: Crash at 8th and Roxbury

3:15 PM: Thanks for the tip on a crash at 8th and Roxbury. Metro has just sent an alert that Route 128 is routed off 8th at the intersection; that generally means other traffic is too. We’re off to check.

3:36 PM: 8th/Roxbury just fully cleared as we went through a few minutes ago. Vehicles hooked to tow trucks were visible to the south on 8th but weren’t blocking.

Looks like that road diet is  hard at work

No road diet anywhere near there. Stops at 17th.

SDOT prefers to call what they did at other parts of Roxbury “re-channelization” anyways.

      • WSB August 11, 2016 (9:57 pm)

No, they do not. Roxbury was very specifically re-channelized from 35th to 17th, as shown in the final design presentation that’s part of our coverage in this report: https://westseattleblog.com/2015/04/happening-now-sdot-unveils-sw-roxbury-plan-at-westwood-roxhill-arbor-heights-community-council-meeting – No channelization changes east of there except for Olson/4th at the far eastern end of the corridor. – TR

          other parts of Roxbury

As in the parts between 35th and 17th that your link calls re-channelization.

Different road, same “road diet is not rechannelization” expression.

          https://westseattleblog.com/2016/08/the-roadway-redesign-is-improving-safety-says-sdot-as-35th-avenue-sw-phase-2-is-unveiled/

There, an SDOT employee cheerily corrected one man who asked about “the road diet” by saying, “It’s NOT a road diet.”

Not sure what you are trying to say but my point is that “D” tried to make a snark about 8th/Roxbury which was inaccurate, suggesting there is a “road diet” at that spot, but in reality, the channelization remains the same at that spot, and for many blocks on both sides of it, and that’s what needed to be clarified. The rechannelization, road diet, lane restriping, whatever you or SDOT or anyone else prefers to call it, is between 17th and 35th on Roxbury; this crash happened more than half a mile east, at 8th, where the channelization remains two travel lanes in each direction.

Coming home tonight and the car next to me just blew through the red light going westbound after the light had been red a good 2 or 3 seconds, no wonder this intersection has so many accidents.

Happens at intersections all over W Seattle. Cars, bikes, and pedestrians, all are guilty of running lights, turning where illegal, crossing against the walk light, etc. No enforcement, people distracted now more than ever.

Sorry, comment time is over.
