Anybody know what the white residue left over from yesterday’s snow/hail storm is?
Beach Drive and other WS streets were blanketed with it this morning. Looks like it could be volcanic ash but I haven’t heard of eruptions of late. Alaska maybe?
The white powdery residue you’re noticing is the de-icer they’re putting down, if you drive up/down Olson Way to get onto 509 it’s all over the roadway.
Not sure what the road department is using this Winter but it sure does leave that residue.
After the snow fiasco a few years ago, SDOT now goes overboard with the salt & de-icer. If there is even a hint of flakes in the air, they’re out dumping that stuff. It’s excessive, IMO. I grew up in Detroit, and never saw so much residue.
