clairdesolParticipantWe are looking for an independent living community for an aged parent. I would welcome names of places in West Seattle, or nearby, and any direct experiences you may have had would be helpful as well.

acemotelParticipantWe had parents at Admiral Heights

back when they first opened about five or six years ago. The threshold for acceptance to the most independent level then was the ability to sit and stand without assistance, and to get from a sitting to standing position unassisted. I think there are different levels of care, with different costs, of course. Our parents were in the most independent level, but over time one died, and the other had to get help with medications and laundry. We loved the proximity, and we liked the facility a lot. It was brand new then. The staff seemed very nice and caring, usually, although they seemed to suffer from a lot of turnover. We attributed that to the fact they were a brand new concern, still working through staffing issues.
I thought overall the folks were very well cared for. There were a lot of activities for them to partake in. There were many different locations they could escape to…. a library, a computer room, a nice deck area, a sitting room, and even a dining room in case they wanted to invite family for a special meal.

clairdesolParticipantThank you everyone for your help. I’ll check out your suggestions and see if they have openings, and if the situation seems appropriate–basically we need an apartment with 1-2 meals provided, and some group activities.
