among45ParticipantHello, I am moving my family to the Seattle area in mid-July and looking for a 2 to 3 bedroom house to rent. We are looking in the 1100 to 1300 range for myself, wife, and two children, ages 6 and 18 months (no pets). I will be working downtown so being close to public transit a plus. We don’t have too many requirements: quiet area with a good elementary school are top of the list. Any advice or knowledge of something coming up would be great. We are relocating from the Midwest, though I lived in Seattle just out of college in the early 90s. Looking forward to returning but anxious about not knowing what the neighborhoods are like so many years later and now having kids. Thank you.

BonnieParticipantI don’t think you’ll find much in that price range. I saw this one in the Westwood area. http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/apa/2998048088.html I think by the address it is Arbor Heights school, although I think it’s closer to Roxhill.

ArborHeightsMomParticipantThere is a house across the cul de sac from us that is for rent. This is a great neighborhood with lots of kids, and I know the owners…it’s a good house…I found the for rent listing on Zillow, the address is at 114th and 34th SW. Let me know if you want me to see who the property manager is, I think the rent was $1400 a month, so a bit above your range..but on a bus line in a great neighborhood!

RainierMemberAsk and you shall receive! Here’s a link to a house that fits the bill: http://robgrahamrealestate.com/351112 Across the street from Safeway (two other grocery stores nearby, one blk away from Lafayette(a very good elementary), across the street from WS High and Hiawatha Park, walking distance from lots of services, movie theatre, library and restaurants and one block off Admiral way on which a major bus route runs (two minute drive to the WS bridge)and in a quiet neighborhood.

among45ParticipantThank you for the responses. I am taking a look at the two houses mentioned. Very much appreciate it.

JanSParticipantRainier…the house in Admiral is just down the street from me…I’ve been inside…it’s adorable…and a terrific neighborhood !
May 9, 2012 at 5:46 pm #757772
GoGoParticipantI too and looking for a house to rent for me and my two Boston Terriers. $1200 or less. The houses I have been looking at are horrific, I’d rather sleep in my car.
Any ideas for me?
May 9, 2012 at 5:52 pm #757773
JanSParticipantwell, now…the house mentioned above in the Admiral District might take pets..you could ask..

luckymom30ParticipantAmong45 I so wish that the house next door to us were available, you sound like ideal neighbors, unlike the family currently living there.

GoGoParticipantThat Admiral house doesn’t not have a much of a yard and what it does have is not fenced in. :(

RainierMemberI’m confused..
May 10, 2012 at 6:23 pm #757779
JanSParticipanthere’s a link to the Zillow home rental map of Seattle..zero in on West Seattle…there are quite a few in all sorts of price ranges..
http://www.zillow.com/homes/for_rent/Seattle-WA/house_type/
when you zoom in to West Seattle, just click on each little house and it will give you the details and pictures about that house…
May 10, 2012 at 6:24 pm #757780
JanSParticipantGoGo…I just went to that craigslist ad…and it’s not been flagged for removal…
May 10, 2012 at 6:28 pm #757781
among45ParticipantAgain, thank you very much to all who responded. I have been on Zillow, Hotpads, and Craigslist, so am looking also, but more eyes always helps. And thanks Jan S for the info about the inside of the house. I have tried to contact the management company a couple of times — have yet to hear; I’m guessing it is popular given its location and price.

JanSParticipantnope…just went to the craigslist ad again…it’s still there…according to my computer…lol…hmmm…what may be lurking about, I wonder?

megMemberJust a suggestion here. Make sure it’s really a rental, not a scam. I had friends who gave a large deposit for a rental listed on CL — that turned out to be a scam. The actual owner had never listed his house for rent. My friends lost their money and they had to search for another rental. Police were notified, but not in time for them to get their money.
Anyway, you can check to see who is the actual owner on record, using King County online records. And, if there’s a way for you to actually visit the house and go inside – it’s best to do that. (scammers don’t want to show you the house or apt) Otherwise, try to contact the owner, using the King County tax record info, to make sure it’s actually for rent before you send any money.
“Scam” could be the reason it is flagged.
May 11, 2012 at 7:32 pm #757787
GoGoParticipantThat is exactly what I was thinking, Marh! Great minds think alike. :)
May 11, 2012 at 9:58 pm #757788
GoGoParticipantJust so anyone who may be interested knows, the Craigslist ad listed above by Rainier (not Rainer’s ad!) is a scam. Guy says he is out of the country as a missionary and can’t show the house. RIGHT!!!!
