i went from being a woman with resources to being a person without proper identification

this afternoon someone managed to open my car door when my car was parked across from one of our green spaces and pull my walk around purse out from under the seat

    without getting bitten

i would have believed that impossible

but perhaps Yuki is why there was nothing else missing.

did the remote lock on the car fail?

    i don’t know.

    did operator error occur?

    maybe

i never set the alarm there because there is so much traffic that passing traffic sets off the alarm so there was no reassuring beep

and i don’t carry my purse there because it’s not really safe to do so

a last minute decision to stop and check on people i care about

has rendered me in the same predicament they find themselves when the ID they count on to negotiate the world is stolen from them.

    the difference?

tomorrow i should be able to rectify my situation.

it will be troublesome and perhaps expensive

    but it should be possible

thank god hubby had cash on him

because i had to close my bank account

and it takes money to replace stolen identification

    thank god i am home

where i can walk into my local DMV

with an expired license as photo ID

thank god i am home and able to use the phone that is identified with my accounts to cancel credit cards

thank god no-one was hurt and my dogs were still safely in my car

tonight i realize how little stands between me and those i visit in their makeshift homes in the woods and at the foot of our hill

We are all really one step of away from disasters that it isn’t so easy to recover from

Sorry this happened to you, JoB…

I can’t post the words I’m currently thinking, regarding whomever did this to you.

I realize your relatively close to the DMV, but are the hills going to be a problem for you to walk?

I have a license, and could come over and drive you.

Or, Metro Route 22 passes very near your place, and stops across from DMV, (and right in front for the ride back).

    miws..

don’t tell anyone but i am going to cheat.

after all, i do have a license, i just don’t have it with me.

i will be carrying my police report too.

    but i appreciate your offer.

when i have access to money again we can go to lunch and you can make me feel better by calling the opportunists who invaded my life whatever it was you couldn’t say here :)

how long does it take to get your life back?

    i wonder.

Your secret’s safe with me. ;-)

Lunch sounds good, and I look forward to letting out a few expletives! (But in the car on the way, not at the restaurant).

I hope everything involved in dealing with this, goes as smoothly as it possibly can…

Sounds like an inside job to me…. did you smell doggy treats on Yuki’s breath? Yuki was a co-conspirator methinks.

    kootch..

i think i was just lucky that whoever it was decided to close the door quickly and walk away.

i could have lost my dogs.

    they are irreplaceable.

spent all day in the halls of institutions or on the phone. nearly whole.. or will be soon.

lucky me.. whoever lifted all of that cash partied before using my cards.

now i will have to watch my credit reports like a hawk.. lucky me.

Sorry about what happened. My thought that they “bribed’ the dogs. Maybe were familiar with your habits or just familiar with a lot of women’s habit of stuffing purse under the seat?

I left my wallet at the condiment counter in Taco Time at the Junction several years ago. Got to my car, went right back but of course was gone. I started making phone calls while in parking lot. Don’t have written pin numbers in it ever. Had quit carrying checkbook before then because of debit card. It was Friday eve so had to wait til Monday to report it. Lucky I only had $20 cash.A few days later the Post Office called me, they had it from a mail box. Only the money was gone. Said they get them every day. I’d already replaced my license. I canceled 2 credit cards as soon as I got home. I can understand how invaded you felt.

Argh! Having your ID and credit cards taken SUCKS. So sorry to hear about it, JoB. Like you said, thankfully, they were only interested in your things, not your dogs, and at least they closed the car door, so the dogs didn’t get out. I’m sure you’ve done it already, but make sure you alert the credit bureaus, as well as watching your reports. It helps when/if you have to dispute any charges.

Kootch’s comment about an inside job reminds me of that allstate (?) commercial with Mayhem Guy as the dog bribed with a bone by the burglars. Nothing funny about this situation, but that ad always makes me chuckle.

Good luck getting things back in order, JoB.

I notified the credit bureau, no charge. They automatically monitored my credit for 3 mo. I was lucky nothing happened. It does take time to get over the shock.

I have also been warned to never use birth dates for PINS because too easy to figure out, especially if they got your driver’s license. Also to never use same pin for everything.

I really feel for you JoB.

    the good news..

the address book that used to have my passwords in it

    wasn’t in that purse.

    and never will be again

i have spent over 20 hours cleaning this up…

    including changing pins and passwords.

I can’t tell you how lucky i feel to be able to clean this up so quickly.

it was a hassle, but it hasn’t been impossible.

for too many, loosing a wallet is the last step towards living on the street.

I lost a wallet either walking to or at our Food Bank. A YEAR later I got a message from a man in Gearge Town who said he had it. Ellen called him back, got address an we went to get it even though long before everything had been taken care of. He was very nice, said he did what he hope someone would do had it been his mother, after looking at my driver’s license. He was remodeling a rental house he owned. He found it in the yard!

Everything was in it and had definitely NOT been laying out in the weather. Looked exactly the same as when lost it. Wheather someone threw it over the fence or was the ex-renters we,ll never know. Was a lot of trash laying around & a place under a tree where had been party fires, lots of beer cans around it. So I surely know how it feels to lose all the stuff in it.
