Does anyone know if BECU or any of our local banks do currency exchange back to dollars? I’m visiting family in Germany and they’ve all given me cash Euros for Christmas but there’s no business days to use it or exchange it before I fly home. Hoping I can exchange it when I get home at BECU but couldn’t get a hold of them because of the time difference.

BECU does not do US-to-foreign currency exchange but I don’t know about the reverse. You may need to try a big bank. They may charge a fee in which case you could ask a friend who has an account at a big bank so as to avoid a fee.

If all else fails, and you don’t donate it at the airport–www.travelex.com. At Westlake Center.

There is a WSB reader named, “SeekingEuros” who used to post requests for no-middleperson money exchanges. S/he was, as you can guess, buying Euros off of people. Maybe SeekingEuros will see this? Or perhaps an email address could be found in one of the old posts.

I have a bunch of Italian lira leftover from a trip in 2000. Ugh. I don’t suppose I’ll ever see a post from a “SeekingLira”.

Well the bad news is that BECU only takes Canadian Dollars for exchange. The good news is that my dad still banks with Wells Fargo and they take Euros and my SO banks with BofA and they also take Euros. Plus my dad is going home for a visit this summer so he will probably just buy them off of me 1:1. I would hold on to them for my next trip over since I visit every 1.5-2 years but the point was to do some Christmas shopping. Unfortunately everyone forgot I was departing on the first business day after the 3 Christmas Holidays and Sunday that all stacked up on the calendar this year.
