Happy to report that the Mixed Fruit Cake from Yummy House bakery was delicious! Light and tasty, and very pretty too, it was the perfect choice for a bridal shower brunch. We sampled a few other things from the bakery and they were all great too. Thanks again for the suggestion!
I just don’t even bother answering the phone any more. Wish I could just get rid of it entirely.
As for the mailers, on Tuesday of last week I received NINETEEN of them on one day. Yup, you read that right. They barely fit in my mailbox. This practice is an atrocious waste, on every level.
You won’t be disappointed. They’ve earned their Yummy title!
Thanks for all the great ideas – I think I’m going to go with the Yummy House. A lighter cake sounds just right for a bridal shower brunch and their costs are reasonable. I’ll report back after tasting!
My 8yo requests his cakes from Yummy House Bakery in the ID, which makes a deliciously light spongy cake with fresh whipped cream and fruit. They have a stand in the Uwajimaya food court and a bakery kitty corner to Uwaji’s. Party guests of all ages always rave about that cake – partly because it’s so light and different and not too sickly sweet.

My husband, however, prefers his white chocolate ganache cake from the QFC bakery in the Junction.
Check out the Skylark for breakfast and brunch, Gina… I don’t think they advertise here but they make some yummy food.

I ate there the first weekend they were open. Yes, it was a bit of a wait for a table….it’s a popular spot. And the crew was new, so the service was a bit slow, but the food was yummy. Brassymomma, perhaps you didn’t see any activity because it’s only been open on weekends. There were problems with one of the stoves, there were problems with a bit of sabotage to the electrical system, and all the food spoiled while she was at her other job during the week. There was a theft (cash register), by someone who supposedly let themselves in with a key (Miranda, time to change the locks). So…weekends only. Many people don’t work on weekends, so maybe you missed it on your days off :) Also, remember…her hours on the weekends are 9am to 2 or 3pm. They’ve always closed at that time, so if anyone walks by at 6:30pm, of course you’re going to see it locked up tight. :)
They are indeed open and I’m anxiously awaiting my yummy breakfast!
Yup Typical stuff. Do I get any Enlightened point of view about the benefits of Socialism.
Nope..! Just personal Attacks which is the Liberal way.
When someone can’t defend there point of view that is the last and only resort.
If anyone has been to a Seattle City Council meeting than you will know what I am talking about. He who screams the loudest wins.
I am hoping by exposing the Evil crimes and Failures of Socialism so that I can help save a Liberal or 2 or 10 and in turn help save our children from a life of Despair.
I know it goes against the Liberal doctrine to debate and ask questions but in the case of a Socialist transformation of this country. I am really hoping that the Liberals take there medication and attempt to understand what ” Centralized Government Control ” really means and the Evils involved.
In a Capitalist system the rich become Powerful.
In a Socialist system the powerful become rich.
Does anyone think they tore down the Mansions and palaces in Russia in 1917. Of course not. They were just handed over to the ” Party members “

Hi, I am thinking of purchasing a Vanagon and would like to try one out for a weekend. I am willing to trade use of my 09 Hyundai wagon for the weekend or pay fair rental cost. I won’t take it far, just out to a nearby campsite. I will treat it with respect and care.

These are kinda harsh but funny in a sick way:

Yup, it was already off by the time we got down there. I noticed a small dark chafe band on one of the females so I assume that’s where it was lodged.
Sam, the male was watching over her and guarding her well, so she was in good hands.
Its not infused water, but it is refreshing..
I found this recipe on the Smitten Kitchen blog..
1/2 can coconut milk
juice of 3 limes
2 cups of ice
1 – 2 tsp of sugar or to taste.
Put it in the blender and its quite yummy! Sometimes I’ll add a shot of rum too. ;) I’ve been wondering what it would be like with a little bit of ginger too, haven’t gotten around to trying it yet.
I am vacating a room at ActivSpace on Harbor Avenue and have two heavy duty storage racks looking for a new home. Great condition, your garage will love them. See Craigslist posting at:

i couldn’t agree more
i live with 2 shiba inus
every time i turn around someone is telling me how dang cute they are.. and they are
but.. i brush them every day.. yup.. every day because they shed like some kind of floating dustball machine
and they have a yard to play in
and a second yard out front to run in
and they get walked every day
and i don’t leave them home alone because they get bored and that’s not a good thing for escape artists..
and i take them to a different park at least a couple of times a week because they get bored..
they destroy toys faster than i can buy them
and i don’t buy cheap toys
they are easily bored
they are great dogs but there is a pattern developing here
having a dog is a major commitment
an even larger commitment if you have one of the more active breeds
if you invite them into your home it’s your responsibility to keep them happy and healthy…
and your responsibility to keep them adequately secured in public.. not only for the safety of the greater public.. but for their safety.
I know that i sometimes go overboard when it comes to taking care of my pups…
but, if you aren’t willing to do that
don’t get a dog.
it really is that simple.

Hi Smitty, you must be new to reading WSB, as the Editor has pointed out many times that the boundaries of West Seattle are as noted here: http://tinyurl.com/nm2yxtk
Plus, WS includes Arbor Heights running east to around 28th Av SW, and another area around Holy Family church.

We have an older Kenmore high capacity 70 series washing machine we’d like to give to a good home. It’s clean and works great! Definitely no washing or rinsing issues like some of the new he machines. It’s also old enough to qualify for the pse free washer replacement program. If you meet their qualifications you could turn this in to them for a brand new washer for free! We want to give it to someone who will use it, not scrap it or resell it. You’ll need to transport it, but I’ll help you lift it into your vehicle. Have a look at the photo link and if you could use it send me an email with your number and I’ll give you a call.

but for the life of me i can’t figure out whatever induced me to do that as a kid…
i vividly remember coming out of the water blue

and these days i think they would too ;-)
Hi there! I’m a mom and Local Coordinator in West Seattle looking for a few host families that would be willing to open their hearts and home to a high school foreign exchange student for this coming school year or semester. Specifically, I’m looking for a host family for Emma, 16, from Germany who likes soccer and piano, and for Kyung Soo, a 17-year-old boy from Korea who also loves soccer and computer programming. Please email me at cause at seekairun.com if you would like more details! We have many amazing students to choose from. Thank you in advance!

Yup. Saw, or rather *heard* a couple out in the neighbor’s tall weeds in the alley. I have not heard them in Seattle before, but it has been decades since I’ve heard them outside of Eastern WA or other dry areas. Not often in Tacoma where I grew up.
It’s dry out there folks. Dang!
and, Gina….I remember when Hi- Yu Art was in the block to the north, same side of the street….nostalgia….( for that matter, does anyone remember when Phoenicia was in the junction around Mashikos location now>
