JeraldParticipantSaw a half-inch long green grasshopper on my patio. Lived in WS forever, never seen one before. Anyone else? Just curious.

trickycooljParticipantThey exist in Washington. You should see my grandpa’s field when he gets out his riding lawn mower they jump everywhere!

GoGoParticipantWas it bright, lime green? I had one in my house the other day, for a bug it was pretty darn cute!

imagonnaMemberYup. Saw, or rather *heard* a couple out in the neighbor’s tall weeds in the alley. I have not heard them in Seattle before, but it has been decades since I’ve heard them outside of Eastern WA or other dry areas. Not often in Tacoma where I grew up.
It’s dry out there folks. Dang!

imagonnaMemberAgreed GoGo. They are pretty cute. All bright and cheery green like that. :D
Edit: Adding picture – oops, never mind with the picture link. That was a big string of gooey redirects. But they are darlin little thangs.

JeraldParticipantI’ve seen them in Eastern and SW Washington, but never in the Puget Sound area. Yes, it was bright green! I wonder if they’ve hitched a ride on imported plants, like the large snails from California.

anonymeParticipantIf they’re bright green, they might be katydids. I started seeing grasshoppers about a week ago – another sign of a hot, parched summer.

JeraldParticipantFurther research shows katydids found in British Columbia in the last decade. Possibly made their way south? I hope I see another — I’ll pay more attention to details.

SueParticipantI saw them on my windshield twice last week.

JanSParticipantthe bugs that get me are the June bugs…haven’t seen one since my child(now 34) was small…cute? no, not so much…

JanSParticipantI’m thinking they weren’t exactly this big…..

StumbledoreMemberWas it a patient grasshopper?

tttParticipantI moved to seattle about 7 years ago and have always lived in puget sound area for the past 50 years and grasshoppers can be found all over the sound in grassy areas. The bugs that thrive in the dry weather are just multplying compared to the rain loving bugs…
