Ms. SparklesParticipantI cannot wait until this election is over! (already mailed in our ballots this weekend btw). In the course of the last 3 days we’ve receieved 8 different calls, some robo- call, some real live people shilling for the candidates of several races- even a robo -call fro Ed Murray (don’t know about what, I hung up).
.
The topper is that this weekend marked the 5th, yes 5th, from Lisa Herbold’s campaign even though I told the first 3 callers (4th was robo) to stop calling my number.
.
Good Goddess! It’s just pointless insanity – nothing they say could ever sway me, I vote exclusively based on what’s written by reliable sources.

JeannieParticipantPlus all that paper wasted on flyers that have been clogging my mailbox every day for the past couple of weeks.

JoBParticipantthe good news is tht most of the time i don’t have to feel bad when i hang up. the voice is recorded

anonymeParticipantI just don’t even bother answering the phone any more. Wish I could just get rid of it entirely.
As for the mailers, on Tuesday of last week I received NINETEEN of them on one day. Yup, you read that right. They barely fit in my mailbox. This practice is an atrocious waste, on every level.

datamuseParticipantY’know, I’ve been reading that turnout is low this election. If it were possible to cease getting mailers, phone calls, etc as soon as you turned your ballot in, think turnout would be higher?
November 3, 2015 at 5:34 pm #828737
JoBParticipantWhat a great idea!
November 3, 2015 at 5:52 pm #828738
anonymeParticipantAttention candidates: did it ever occur to you that your junk mailers actually have the OPPOSITE effect on voters of what you intended? That, instead of making people more interested in you and your junk advertising, you are creating a version of “levy fatigue”, whereby voters are so sick and tired of having pulp fiction stuffed down their throats that they simply retreat, rather than engage?

SueParticipantIn my apartment building we have a large bin underneath the mailboxes for recycling. It is stuffed full of the political mailers. Most people aren’t even taking them upstairs to their homes before tossing them. I’m one of them – right from mailbox into the bin. Thankfully I haven’t received any phone calls this election, which surprises me. Watch they all call this afternoon now. :)

PangolinPieParticipantThe candidates can only legally robo-call landlines, for what that’s worth. I haven’t had one in three years and I don’t miss it. And so far I haven’t gotten a single candidate call to my cell phone (which is good because candidates can and have been fined for that).
Now those political flyers…yeah, straight into the recycle bin.

JoBParticipanti could have turned them in for calling my cellphone? who knew.

PangolinPieParticipantYes, ma,am.

JoBParticipantcool!

JeannieParticipantHey, Pangolin! We’re certainly happy that I-1401, protecting pangolins, elephants, rhinos, etc., passed! I didn’t receive any annoying mailbox-cloggers from them.
November 8, 2015 at 11:10 pm #828745
PangolinPieParticipantI’m happy too, Jeannie! I think it was one of the few issues most voters could agree on. We even got a shoutout on John Oliver’s show!
Fun fact: though they mainly eat ants, pangolins are not related to anteaters; in fact, they are more closely related to bears!
November 9, 2015 at 4:12 am #828746
JeannieParticipantYep. Poor pangolins are among the most hunted species on earth. I didn’t know about their bear connection – interesting. I saw John Oliver’s piece; it was hilarious (even though he made fun of pangolins). I adore that man!
