There’s a list of housing resources on South Seattle College’s website.

My friend told me about an app on there called RentHoop – Roommate Finder. It’s mostly students and I think it’s free for download on their website for RentHoop.com

Are you a family member of an older man driving a smallish white SUV/wagon on Genesee Hill? There was a kid in the back who wasn’t on a seat belt and the man was going about 15 mph east on Charlestown. Driving VERY hesitantly. I turned so lost track of him, but tried to find him to call his license plate in.

    He shouldn’t be driving!!

Somebody that is asking for cash is not a scammer, regardless of what they are saying. They are simply asking for cash. the fact that she actually had a gas can and accepted gas is further evidence that she had a legitimate need. It’s nice there are people out there that will help.

Yes, She approached me at Metropolitan Market and had one child with her -about 6 or 7 years old. She said she ran out of gas. I told her, I don’t have cash but can get her some gas if she had a gas can in the car which she said she did. I asked her to come to the gas station by Safeway with her can. She came there with the car and I told her to pump her gas. She was very polite and asked how much she could pump. I told her to keep going and when it came to about $8.45 cents I told her she could stop. There was another boy and a baby in the car. After going home, I felt bad for not giving her more gas and thought of her for the next 3-4 days. She genuinely needs some help and I still hate to say she is a scammer-especially when she is walking around for gas money. Looks like sometimes she gets money, sometimes gas, sometimes none of those -so she keeps trying to get either money or gas. I do wish there is some help for people like that without having to go to the extra length of finding an excuse to get those few bucks.

To all that shop in the Admiral Safeway/Metropolitan Market shopping area,

I recently was at the gas station next to Metropolitan Market when a women and child, about 30-35 age range, came up to me saying she had just run out of gas and needed a few dollars to get her and her child home. I did not have any cash on me so was unable to give her any.

Today I spoke to a co-worker of mine who recently moved to the neighboorhood and he told me about her coming up to him yesterday with the same request.

This woman is very convincing, but she is scamming that general area of parking lots in Admiral so please be warned NOT to give her any money as her story is not true.

ORIGINAL POST: Liz e-mailed to say she and another woman “found a large amount of cash yesterday in West Seattle.” They put a big sign on the front of the building where they found it. “If we can’t find the owner we will donate to a local non-profit benefiting disabled children.”

If you are the owner, Liz’s sign says, “contact me and tell me how much, in what
denominations, and when/where it was lost. 206-295- 0566” She would prefer a text message. If you can’t text, leave voicemail.

UPDATE: Liz just sent a followup note – the owner’s been found; they had put their rent money in an envelope, put it on their car, and drove away. They had all the correct info to identify it. Happy ending!

Hi! I’m Liberty Bishop and I’ve just moved here from St. Louis. I’ve been a full-time professional nanny and household manager for 15 years. I have a perfect driving record and experience tutoring all ages. I’m looking for part-time work while I help my mother adjust to the recent loss of her husband. Best of all, I live just across the street from the Fauntleroy Ferry!

PCC has a great selection of loose teas, in their bulk section. Since the WS location has closed, I’ve had to trek out to Columbia City or order by the pound from Amazon.

I understand your frustration. I once got a parking ticket back in NY for a spot that had no indication of no parking, because the pole had been knocked down. I would never think to look on the other side of the car, on the ground, for the broken pole/sign. I fought it and did win. Doesn’t hurt to try.

There is also back-in angle parking on 41st Ave SW on the block just south of Alaska (4700 block).

The advice about mentioning the sign is spot on. A few years ago, I received a parking ticket on the California extention that comes out near Marination on Harbor Ave.

I was parked north of a sign that said No Parking South of here.

If you know that area the side I was parked on had NO houses, NO businesses, and a perfectly usable sidewalk on the other side of the street that went all the way up the hill.

Evidently even unimproved roads/areas, must be walkable on both sides of the road.

I did fight that ticket via email, with photo’s attached. The city did lower the fine AND they removed the portion of the sign that said ‘south of here’.

    i have to say something..
when i post here about people in need i speak from my heart…
this is just my voice and how i approach these things
i don’t expect anyone else to see this my way or to do what i do.. or don’t .. do

and you might ask.. if that is true why do you post at all?

i post because something i say might make someone else look at their assumptions in a slightly different way.. or cause them to understand why someone else might see things differently.

I am no different than anyone else.. i struggle with these same issues myself..
sometimes on a day to day basis…

i think it helps a lot if we can better understand how .. and why .. someone might react differently than we do.

if this is the parking on the street the bowling alley is on, the signs actually say “back in ANGLE parking only” – and yet no one is parking at an angle and the spaces are not marked at an angle either. (think White Center for correct “back in angle parking”) I actually asked a traffic enforcement officer about it and she said, “just back in, they put the wrong signs up”. so, maybe you could argue that since no one was following the signs you didn’t have to either – after all, the city put up the wrong signs. :)

I first thought of Angelo’s as well … also Endolyne Joe’s has a smallish “banquet room”. Buddha Rusksa hosted my husband’s office dinner on the upper level once, think we had 14 in our party? The upstairs of Elliot Bay WS (although no hard alcohol there). Elliot Bay Burien has a separate room my family has had a private party, 20-25 people (again though, no “cocktails” but beer and wine). And Classic Eats in Burien has a private back room – we were there for dinner not long ago and they were hosting a HS reunion on their back patio.

I have 2 tickets (MEZ15 A 6 & 7) for the Pixies show tonight at the Paramount. Plans fell through and can’t go, but didn’t want the tickets to go to waste. Free to the first reply including a favorite Pixies song/lyric.

i am with you. i could have done with less information..

and sometimes too much information is the hallmark of a scam..
but other times it is the hallmark of disordered mental processing..
how do we tell? i don’t know.

I will admit that I have been scammed by people who said they were in need… i am pretty sure that more than once items from my garage (mostly freely given but not always) ended up being exchanged for goods that i would not have approved…

however. i have also watched people go from lives without hope to lives that include realistic possibilities… I have seen people literally transition from being what they considered trash to productive.

how do we know what to give and when to give it? how do we know when people will use our gifts to good ends and when they won’t? i don’t know.

but sometimes it pays off.. and when it does it can make all the difference in the world for them. that i know.
