Sorry to hear what happened. We can include in Crime Watch if you e-mail.

That aside, if you are referring to the building where John L. Scott used to be? First there was a demolition/development proposal. Then there wasn’t. Now, I’m seeing another one. Its owners are listed on King County Parcel Viewer:

    http://blue.kingcounty.com/Assessor/eRealProperty/Detail.aspx?ParcelNbr=7625700435

Sold earlier this year. You can use Washington State Corporation Search to see who the LLC is.

We recently moved and are having a sale of the items we did not need in our new home. Stop by our old house Saturday Sept 16th between 10 and 4 to check out what we’ve got! We have small things like Littlest Pet Shop houses and big things like an IKEA loft bed, girls 20″ Specialized bike, Costco teddy bear… even a few free things like a plastic playhouse and basketball hoop. Everything priced to go.

As a cyclist I’m entitled to ride wherever I feel is the safest. It may be the shoulder, perhaps the right edge of the lane and it may be right in the center of the lane. As an example, when I ride down Avalon every morning, on the way to work, I’m cruising at 30-35 mph I”m right in the center of the lane. it’s unarguably the safest place for me to be. When I ride around Alki I’m usually cruising around 17-20 mph. That’s too fast for the bike path so i’m in the road and not hugging the parking lane as I don’t want to get creamed by a car door I tend to ride a bit right of the center of the lane depending on the traffic and parking.

As a vehicle I have a right to my space on the pavement. I also have a right under state law to the 3′ passing clearance that the passing vehicle must provide.

I am not a fan of Alki Automotive. I liked one of their mechanics when they were at their previous Alki Beach location, which is now Blue Moon Burgers. But that mechanic left Alki Automotive years ago and went to West Seattle Autoworks.
I found Alki Automotive to be too costly, rude, and the problem I paid them to fix resurfaced a few months later. Ended up fixing it myself with the help of YouTube.

@advntrplz I’d be happy to meet with you and of course, any/everyone else in this conversation to discuss and perhaps plan… a project to help someone… It may or may not be Mary Theresa but it would be ‘someone’ :) I don’t know if she wants/would accept this type of structure… But I Do Know… she likes to have AA Batteries for her little portable music player, Hot Chocolate and Cola… (I try to remind her to drink more water and less sugar;) )… when she’s not feeling well sometimes I get her Tylenol or Ricola Cough Drops… Yarn BUT… you have to know ‘what type’ ;) for the project she’s working on :)

Just talk to her… all of you! You don’t need to be offering ‘help’ … just acknowledging her and engaging with her… You know… I think that’s really what all of us want/need… whether we realize it or not <3

I’ve got some sturdy boxes at work that I have put off breaking down as there is often other pressing stuff to do. They are about 2’x2’x15″ high, more shipping box than moving box but they are yours for the asking. I have 5 of them, let me know and I can bring a couple home each day.

I have no experience with or thoughts regarding Alki Automotive, however will second herongrrl’s endorsement of Courtesy Tire.

Over the years they have done almost as much ‘free’ work on my tires (checking air-pressure after cold spells or before road trips) as they have replacing the tires and battery on my car.

The long-term staff are a great group of guys who are eager to answer any questions and help in any way they can!!!

Yes, there is work going on. Some weeks back, we briefly saw the owner, while we were parking nearby on our way to cover something, asked him how it’s going, “It’s going!” he replied cheerily. We were there again more recently (last week, I think) and saw work crews at the site. This is more a labor of love than some big construction project. But we are overdue for an update, and while Clay Eals had been chronicling it as part of his work as SWSHS executive director, now that he’s left that role I don’t know if he’ll continue updating it for them … Tracy

Is there a limit to the distance a car can travel in a non-protected bike lane (not sharrow) before making that right turn, assuming they have yielded to cyclists first? I can’t find anything.

I know there is a limit to distance traveled the center turn lane (aka two-way left turn lane), which is 300 ft. according to RCW, so I thought there would be a distance limit here too.

Of course protected bike lanes are another matter. I was referring to the non-separated bike lanes, such as on Avalon. Every day I see cars turning right across the bike lane, instead of moving into the right lane first.

I have my motorcycle insurance through Safeco. Have never had to file a claim (knock on wood), but everything else has been smooth. And their motorcycle rates were about half the price of Geico for the exact same policy.

I am assuming that is not the case when it’s a separated bike lane.
It difficult turn right from a bike lane when they have plastic stanchions posted in the road.
You can hold up a lot of traffic waiting to turn right at the Delridge / Orchard intersection, waiting for pedestrians and cyclists. But, hey, I always use my blinker (and am pretty patient).

I think that is exactly how I feel as well re: this has to be her choice.

What we feel might improve another’s life may not actually help.

I would still love to build something, and if she want it, awesome. If not, there are others who might. If they don’t, hell, it was a fun, good heart thing to do. Learning lesson and move on.

The thing that warms me most is how so many people here want to help.

I second Apical. After trying a number of services in my yard with many trees, Roger gave me the most reasonable price. He’s a certified arborist. He’s good at taking off the overgrowth, but leaving the tree or bush looking entirely natural. No stubs or rough edges. He also gives advice. He seems to really like trees.

And you might ask yourself, “who makes refrigerated or frozen food products in Sonoma country that would be shipped to OR and WA?” Don’t know if Nancy’s Yogurt has their own refers or contracts with drivers making that run up and down the coast. But there’re any number of organic ice cream and dessert manufactures from So Cal north who have to bet product to the PNW. Their operations people should be willing to talk to you.

@HappyOnAlki I’ve thought about this for years and even approached my employer (who would be totally open to $ helping) about having someone fabricate her a more user-friendly ‘cart’ but it would totally have to be ‘here, would you like to use this’? and being completely open/accepting to her saying ‘Oh, that’s very nice… but no thank you’.

We all have to understand… for whatever reasons… soundly consciously chosen or not… Her LIFE… is just that…
