In reply to: Georgia (country), South Ossetia, Russia and WWIII?
KenParticipantAshex is right about the history of this conflict even though it is more complex and Byzantine than any newspaper can do justice to.
Russia is acting in Russia’s interest as they see it. Georgia seems to have misinterpreted the situation of had help misinterpreting the situation.
Curious that both Karl Rove and Condi Rice have made extensive visits to Georgia in the preceding weeks.
Mccain’s advisor on the issue is a member of PNAC.
More fun is probably in the pipeline. (pun intended)

August 14, 2008 at 7:23 am #634079In reply to: What’s your take on this article?
CaduceusMemberJoB I was simply commenting on what he said; which had more to do with his assumptions on my position on these topics.
I’m not looking for people repeating what has already been said I am asking for the individual opinions of the people who browse this forum. (Note the topic of this thread)
I see no connection between eugenics and a politician accomplishing __ many goals that he set out to. (regardless of who the politician was, or what the goals were)
Perhaps you’ve been mis-reading my comments as well?
If someone is born with two penises, no legs, a detrimental health dis-order leading to death if not medicated, death at birth, mental retardation etc That is not genius.
The point to eugenics is to weed out that which isn’t helpful in our genes.
People who have no personal experience in a specific matter rely on second hand sources and poorly written history to claim their “expert” status. That in no way makes them an authority, granted they know more than the average Joe might about [insert subject here that pre-dates our current society].
The point in me “dismissing” his authors was I wasn’t asking for references, I want individual opinions and free-thought flowing from the minds of the people on this board. Again, hence the title of the thread.
And JoB if people would read what I’m linking/writing we wouldn’t have to constantly discuss who mis-understood what and why.
Not that I don’t appreciate Ken’s input, I recognize he’s giving me an opportunity to educate myself, but I was specifically asking for the opinions of everyone here. And I admit the first time a read Ken’s comment I took offense because at first glance it came off as extremely condescending, thus my response.

elgregoMember^ That was a false statement by the Georgian president. We’re not moving combat forces into Georgia, we’re only delivering humanitarian supplies (and maybe try to rearm them too). We’re not taking over anything there.

in forum WSB Reader RecommendationsroguedeluxMemberLooking for a group of seniors who play tennis regularly in West Seattle, who would welcome a Floridian for 3 months in the summer.
Currently, my mother is driving all the way up to Shoreline or Amy Yee to play senior tennis, but would prefer to stay local.
Not looking to take classes, and would prefer strong players.

yardbird66MemberI’m not sure why Mellaw6565 has such a chip on their shoulder about Jeff Bond’s office, but I must come to their defense. I’ve been going to Dr. Bond for almost 15 years and have never had anything but a positive experience there. The staff is always upbeat, friendly and completely professional. I have dentist phobias too, but they’ve work with me and made it completely comfortable, painless and hassle-free.
As for the issue of insurance payments, I can only speak to my own experiences. For larger procedures, I’ve always paid the projected cost right after the procedure, not before, and if there is some question as to what the insurance company will pay (as there usually is), they just send me a bill or a refund later. I’ve never had them ask for money up front, but that may be because I’m a long time customer. Perhaps because Mellaw6565 was a first time customer…….?
As for the cheap shot about Bond’s office being a “boutique” practise……trust me, I’m not a “boutique” kind of guy and I’m completely comfortable with them. They are friendly, down to earth and the quality of the work is top of the line.
FinnsMomMemberYou could try the South Seattle Community College Co-ops. http://dept.seattlecolleges.com/homelife/locations.htm There are a few locations with various classes offered. Also, the West Seattle Peps website has a great list of preschools: http://www.pepswestseattle.org/preschools.html
August 14, 2008 at 12:49 am #587773Topic: Rant: Too many kids in Daycare Van!!
in forum West Seattle Rants & RavesFinnsMomMemberThis afternoon I took my son and the two girls I babysit to Roxhill park. When we got there, there was a large group of kids from a daycare center. I didn’t realize how many kids were with the group until they were leaving. I was shocked when I realized that they were cramming 25 kids and 2 adults into a 16 passenger van! And about half of the kids looked like they should still be in booster seats, which there were none of! As they drove off, I saw one of the children squatting between the front driver and passenger, not even in a seat!! And this was in a van with the daycare’s name across the door! I would like to report this, but I have no idea who to contact. Any ideas?

Matt agreed–told me what it was, and I felt so vindicated; no wonder that stuff hadn’t worked. He has such a nice manner, too.

August 13, 2008 at 10:33 pm #634078In reply to: What’s your take on this article?
JoBParticipantCaduceus,
I was part of the generation that didn’t trust anyone over 30.. i believe Ken was as well. as such… this idea of throwing out all possible “established” positions is nothing new to us.
Nor is the basic material in the article you referenced.. tho i do admit some of the packaging is new. i don’t think Loki was much referenced in my day:)
I am afraid Eugenics is so last century… but it does go along with your admiration for Hitler’s political prowess…
However, it doens’t go along with some of the latest research into those we now call disabled.. which points out that many of today’s disabilities are partnered with a novel approach to both the arts and data manipulation… those disabilities are tied to what we label genius.
And that’s what we know now… about one small segment of our population that was once institutionalized and marginalized. What about what we don’t know?
Eugenics assumes that we know what qualities/talents are necessary for the successful evolution of the human race… yet those that would have been applied at the turn of the last century would have left us ill prepared for this one.
evolution doesn’t require human input.. selective breeding does.
As for dismissing the authors Ken referenced… have you followed his links before dismissing them?
If you expect others to respect you.. and actually read the material you link to, you have to accord them the same respect.
and who knows, you might actually find ideas you haven’t come across there.
just food for thought.

We do think he may have gotten into a UPS truck and that truck goes to Gatewood and down by Lincoln Park via Graham and down the big hill. So if anyone sees a cat like him let us know!

charlabobParticipantThe United States is reported to be taking over air and seaports in Georgia in a “humanitarian/military action.”
Bush warned Russia that they’d better not get in the way of this humanitarian aid. Yeah, that’s a lot better than the negotiation that commie, Obama, advocates.
This could be the beginning of the October Surprise except that it isn’t October and I’m not surprised.

datamuseParticipantYou can read all the books you’d like my friend, just because the authors you’re reading have books, doesn’t make them any more of an authority than anyone else. It’s simple enough logic to figure out why.
Really? Then what, in your opinion, does constitute an authority? I’m genuinely curious to know.
