They are entirely new to myself, rather stated the way they were.

And history is the precise reason I believe these to work, because they have in the past.

They have been since rejected and now we’ve only advanced technologically, which isn’t doing us a lot of good as a species.

You can read all the books you’d like my friend, just because the authors you’re reading have books, doesn’t make them any more of an authority than anyone else. It’s simple enough logic to figure out why.

I think you should read my comments again, you mistook them the first time around.

I tried but there is a reason that sophomoric and anarchist fit together so well. If you want to read philosophy, start with Locke, Hobbs and maybe Spinoza.

His ideas are neither bold nor new. They are beaten to fit into the emerging frame of online as community though.

Eugenics has been tried. It requires thinking of some humans as non humans. If you find that admirable in some way, I hope you can get over it the same way I got over “Atlas Shrugged” a few weeks after I read it.

Reading history might help too. Howard Zinn might be a good choice:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_Zinn#A_People.27s_History_of_the_United_States

If you want to see what different political world views contribute to the “long haul” read “The Authoritarians”

and pay special attention to the experiments using the “global change game”

WA state (Seattle) rates 43rd, lowest of areas with a major city.

Compare property tax rates with other states. Keep in mind that almost all of these states have a state income tax.

Also note that those of us in West Seattle are victims of the free market rather than anything the Governor has anything to do with.

My property assessment, not the tax, has gone up 60k each year since 1998.

If you blame the Governor, you really should turn in your voters registration card.

The recto-cranial inversion epidemic among local republicans is really a sad thing to watch.

However… re the video. it could have been edited better to make a point. It went on to show the cameraman was an idiot and did not understand the trespassing warning he got or how investigative procedure works. Those of us who protest and demonstrate in Seattle know full well how to walk the edge of the law in WA and make the police work for you. The guild certainly know how as well.

Seattle police have often been the ones protecting demonstrators from those who don’t understand the difference between public and private property. I particularly enjoyed watching one explain the difference to a Westlake rent a cop several years ago.

Rossi comes off as a smarmy used car salesman in his campaign ads, and he just plain weirds me out. And as Charla noted, he’s a conservative republican (!), two words that I can guarantee will never apply to me…Gregiore is by far the more relatable candidate in my opinion.

Sounds like the cops were busy last night. The police had to come to our neighborhood last night too (Morgan Junction). A large group of teenagers wearing hoodies, standing, fighting, and yelling in our front yards about “getting ready” to do something. This was about 1:00am.

Again? Like the one we posted about a week or so ago? What time did it happen? As we noted on the front page, there was an incident requiring the bomb squad around midnight so that may have diverted some folks .. TR

As keleeso says, it’s totally self-guided. You can drop into one place at any point, or visit the whole set. Some venues have exhibit openings to coincide with Art Walk night; in other cases, just stop by, look at what’s up on the wall or shelves, and move on. Many offer treats too – cheese, crackers, that kind of thing. The Art Walk happens year round, second Thursday, but this is an especially great time to enjoy it while the weather’s nice. Be sure not to miss some of the stops on the edges of The Junction like Ginomai at 42nd/Genesee, which is a collection of artist studios in a former school building, not to mention the participants outside The Junction, like WSB sponsor Click! Design That Fits in Admiral, and Bubbles on Delridge.

I see that the map link is a bit far down on the Art Walk blog, so here’s a direct link (all venues for this month as well as next are listed)

I don’t believe that this is a year when “the norm” of who votes for what party will stand. It is an unusual election and an unusual time in the US.

There were interesting articles in the Las Vegas papers over the weekend on how McCain fared at the Disabled American Vets convention in that city.

This is from the large daily

    http://www.lvrj.com/news/26582304.html

and this is from the smaller paper with local ownership.

He isn’t at Swedish, but I ADORE Dr Terrill Harrington at My Family Doctor on Alaska. I recently had to switch doctors as mine also moved away. I found Dr Harrington as he is in the same building as my GYNO. They also have a dentist there who I am seeing soon for a cleaning :)

Dr Harrington was the most patient doctor I have ever been to. He listened to each and every question I had, let me complete my question in full, and answered in full! Amazing man!

I am looking for some advice/guidance. I want to go on the art walk tomorrow, but I am not finding the website to be that helpful. Do you have to start at 6 at the first location? Or is it a show up sometime between 6 and 9 and follow this path at your own pace? A friend wants to come with me, but she cannot get there until 6:15. I am hoping to know whether we start at our own pace or if I will need to let her know where the group is at around 6:15.

    Thanks a million!!!

PS – I am not very savvy at the serach feature, so I apologize if this issue has already been addressed in a previous post :)

Thanks for the feedback!! I was able to remove the sticker with a razor blade. I did file a complaint with the SPD. Since I didn’t actually get a ticket, I don’t think I need to follow up at all beyond that.

My neighbors are very quiet. Since I walk everywhere, I see them on a regular basis. My smiles, waves, and “hello”s are not usually returned with much gusto :( No one is rude by any means, just a neighborhood that seems to keep to itself more than I am used to. I am from the northern midwest and our neighborhoods are small families there! I know other neighborhoods here in WS are that way as well, this just doesn’t seem to be one of them. This block is also being overrun by townhouses, so I think a few people aren’t too happy about the change their little neighborhood is going through. Since I rent one of said townhouses (ours is really just a duplex), I may not be viewed favorably by this portion of the neighbors. Eventually, I want to buy a house in this little pocket of WS, so I am looking at the other streets tucked back here where townhouses don’t seem to be going in as much and the neighbors are a little more outgoing.

At any rate, it is good to know about the car ranching as this neighbor does likely think that my car is in this boat. I think I will put a little note on my dashboard that my car is not abandoned … I am just out walking :)

    Thanks for the feedback!!

My problem with Rossi is that he is not willing to publicly discuss any controvercial topics. Whenever he is asked about abortion, gays and lesbians or gun control he claims he is not running on those issues.

    http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/372945_rossi31.html

Does that mean if the topics come up in the legislature that he will not weigh in on them because he did not run on them? Does that mean he will not veto bills that he disagrees with that deal with these topics? My guess is no, he just does not want to alienate voters with he right wing, conservative views that he knows would kill his chances of winning.

I applaud anyone who could stick it out to read the entire article that started this thread.

If the bad writing hadn’t gotten to me.. the short attention span reporting did.

New resident.. it remains to be seen what those over 65 will do at the ballot box…

The one problem McCain has is that those folks actually remember when governmental agencies actually produced results…

they actually lived through a world war and aren’t so eager to do so again.

and they are more aware than most of us what his difficulty word finding and inability to track details means for his future… and thus for ours.

polling is an overrated science.. especially when it comes to presidential elections.

    Thanks charlabob,

It was the 2nd incident mentioned in the times I see to be a pattern.

While other TV crews are there, why would the candidate be so hostile towards someone taping it for what it’s worth?

After living through this GOP administration and how they brilliantly try to selectively censor information really gets under my skin and should be a cause for concern.

I’ve had possum. but not raccoon.. and flowerpetal is right.. never city raccoon.

i know, West Seattle garbage is gourmet garbage… sort of like having them pre-stuffed for you, but….

the sprinklers didn’t work for us.. nor did a water pistol until we added ammonia…

i would have loved to try the air horn. had they been in the house, i am pretty sure i would have warned neighbors and done so.

    they are destructive critters.

Try a motion detector sprinkler. They won’t like it when it comes on. Check hardware stores for more info. Works for most larger than a mouse animals. Also pepper spray area’s where area’s desired.

    erin,

i think this gives you a great chance to go meet all your neighbors. it does sound like you had a neighbor call it in. so to make that neighbor know your car and maybe feel a little remorse i would make an effort to go meet all the neighbors…you could even do it innocently as did you car get marked to? How did you get your sticker off? just an idea. :)

Remember, the WSJ is now owned by Rupert Murdoch. Same bloke who owns Faux News. Once upon a time, they carefully separated their news from editorial and they were an extremely reliable medium. Not so much now :-)

If you read the entire article, they follow the same tactic in public spaces, though that seems to be a matter of overenthusiastic “volunteers.” Don’t you wonder what he has to hide? I can absolutely guarantee you there will be recording of all Rossi events, now that this tactic is known :-)

“One of those videos shows a cameraman — not Akers — at a public park in Wenatchee trying to tape a Rossi event taking place in a roped-off area. Several people affiliated with the organizers, the state and local farming groups tell him he cannot tape the event, even from outside the roped-off area, and then tell him he is not allowed to stand there, either.”

I guess we are looking @ the issue in two different lights Charlabob. I see it as this was a private event that was being secured by off-duty police officers. Akers was asked to leave and he chose to ignore the request so got escorted away. For example, would people have an issue, if someone was holding a wedding reception @ a public place lets say the city hall. (I know more of a small town thing but still could happen. :) ) Lets also say that the wedding party feels that some unwanted guests could attempt to show up so they hire off-duty police officers for security of their wild and crazy private reception at the public city hall. So when these unwanted guests come to the wedding reception and the off-duty officers ask them to leave but they dont leave so the off duty officers escort them off the premises would this be an issue?? woudl this make me guilty of using the police as my public army? Personally, I am not offended by this situation.

I know that there had been a car rancher using the streets in your area (Youngstown) to store his fleet of vehicles. A nearby neighbor was trying hard to rid the area of this jerk and his street clogging fleet. Sounds like your vehicle was caught up in another effort by this person or the construction related parking restrictions is pushing other neighbors of yours over the edge…

Celeste17, did you know there are property tax breaks for those on fixed incomes? (there is an income cutoff)..maybe you should check in to it for your mom as she might be able to get a break. I’m not thrilled about either one of them, but I truly don’t believe that Dino will be better for me than Gregoire. Something says slimey to me about that guy…I think we need to look at where they both stand on the viaduct replacement. It is a state road.

It is a typical repug tactic, JT — Rossi even made fun of the fact that Gregoire “allows” Repugs to film her in public space. Rossi is a conservative republican, running as a GOPer so no one will notice. He’s in the pocket of the building industry (BIAW) and Rovian tricks can be expected, subsidized by them.

BDG, trying to control access to public space, using the police as your private army, should be a big deal to all of us.

I’m starting to feel very unsafe at my favorite dining establishment. What the hell is up with parents who let their 5 year old run rampant in a resturaunt?? It was all I could do to NOT slip my foot out into the aisle.

It was bad enough when his older brother chased him, and he bumped into our table, spilling a bunch of water all over (luckily the wine hadn’t arrived). Stupid kid didn’t say ‘sorry’ or anything…I just glared at him with the Death Ray Eye Stare, and he got the point, and scurried away.

mummy and daddy were OBLIVIOUS. Argh.

and I don’t like Westcrest any more either. Why the hell can’t we have a SMALL, fenced offleash area at Lincoln Park?!?!?!
