I am 50, female, married, spiritual, dog lover, democrat, 50lb over weight, looking for another lady or two who would like to start off on the right foot this Jan. I am going to take a spiritual approach to weight loss, focusing on what I want, making a committment to reach a healthier weight this year. If we do it together, we will have an automatic support system, and have a better chance at success. I like to walk, play tennis, used to salsa dance. Drop me a line, let’s get started and set our goals. Morgan Juntion

All the apologists for your friendly, pretty, white, rich neighborhood murderer refuse to recognize the criminal

originally said she was there when the roommate was murdered

    and

tried to blame a black man, who proved he was nowhere near Knox & the victim

but had his life ruined anyway since he didn’t have a high priced PR firm bought for him to turn this crime into a tabloid cause celbre

especially the paid PR flacks posting at sites like this

Thanks for noting that, I hadn’t noted the gap but have added an editor’s note. LMA talked about this possible restorer type in a comment late this morning, then came back seven hours later and mentioned his website.

    .

Regarding “how did they do it.” We have kind of lived this story for the past week. So here to recap, the series of events as it seems to have transpired:

    .

Crane hired late in day last Monday, says crane op. Suspect allegedly tells crane company he is authorized to do this on behalf of a city commission/board that restores art work. According to police, has believable paperwork. Guy even has the proper tools for removing this and knows just how to do it (apparently no small feat), says crane guy. Crane company hoists pole. Crane truck gets stuck in mud. Tow truck called. It’s now dark, a week ago Monday night (Nov. 30th). Tow truck pulls crane truck out.

Neighbor notices this is a traffic hazard, calls police, who come out and direct traffic. It all apparently appeared legit to them. Truck finally hauls totem pole away. Allegedly to house in Lake Sawyer, according to what the sleuthing Rotarians were told.

Seriously, if you passed by official looking trucks doing something like this, would YOU have said ‘hey, that looks fishy?’ Maybe now, yes. But as multiple commenters have said, who the hell STEALS A TOTEM POLE?

Meantime, I’m not sure what happened Tuesday, but Wednesday morning we get a note from a WSB’er who was driving by with her son, who said, hey mom, where’d the totem pole go ? She sends us a note asking if it’s been removed for maintenance. I send Parks a note asking that. Meantime, Patrick and I go over to see if it really is gone. We photograph pole-less pedestal and tracks in grass. Parks keeps investigating. I don’t hear back by day’s end.

I contact them first thing Thursday morning. We can’t find anyone who authorized it so we’re reporting it as stolen, they say – I talked not only to the PR contact I usually deal with in Parks, but also with the maintenance supervisor for this area whose responsibility includes that little park; he’s based at Lincoln Park. We publish the first story about the totem pole gone and believed to have been stolen. Meantime we hear from Rotarians that they too are trying to find out what happened – I wound up corresponding with one of them while covering the reservoir meeting in High Point Thursday night – he refers me to another one for whom I leave voice mail (but no callback till next day).

    .

Fast forward to Saturday. We were hanging out with the Rotarians covering the Christmas Shopping Spree in the morning and they agreed to let one of us go along in the afternoon when the crane truck driver told them he could show them where he took the pole. (See photo in today’s story.)

    .

No sign of pole from middle-of-nowhere street. Nobody home. Rotarians however have gotten a name for the suspect and that seems to be who neighbors say is moving out there from WS.

Neighbors say they didn’t see a pole, though. So how the pole got from being allegedly dropped in remote driveway, to trucked to Oregon, that’s not clear. We’ll await the charging papers to see the full narrative. Rotarians say they talked to the suspect more than a few times and he repeatedly denied knowing anything about any totem pole.

Police develop enough evidence to get an arrest warrant for the suspect on Wednesday. They reportedly found him at Hamilton Viewpoint, near his North Admiral home. They question him for hours. They told us he finally told them the pole’s in Oregon. They also find another mystery pole. They will be searching to see if anything else turns up at sites linked to the suspect.

Charges are not yet filed so we’re not publishing the guy’s name. How long it will take to file charges, not known – if someone is in custody, they need to be charged within 72 hours or they get to go free. He is not in custody. I’ll be checking with prosecutors daily, and with Parks regarding arrangements for getting pole home.

Oh man, Zips in E.WA!!! I’ve been to the one in Ritzville on the way to Lake Coeur d’Alene on several occasions. Actually, it’s become kind of a tradition to stop there just to see if things can get any worse than they already are. I’ve never eaten in such a hellhole in all my life. Lamps and light bulbs over tables broken, booths dirty, and the food horrendous.

Someone from our party ordered a grilled cheese sandwich once and they just took a hamburger bun, grilled the top and bottom sides, stuck one piece of sliced cheese between it (unmelted), and called it good. Genius!

    austin..

i felt the same way.. especially about the last computer enabled phone i had…

but this one is different for me. it’s essentially a very interactive personal computer that also takes and makes calls.

it’s a camera and MP3 player and personal library and photo album and address book and grocery list and notebook and search engine and GPS and navigator and traffic alert and level and comparison shopper/discount generator/scanable coupon book and ???

i haven’t started looking at apps for myself yet… i suspect i will like it even more when i figure out what it can really do for me. hubby and i don’t always want the same things ;-)

I didn’t expect to buy anything more than a simple phone this time and i didn’t expect to get so much use out of this one…

but i was pretty sure i was going to be tickled to be back in the verizon network.. and i am.

For those down toward the southern end of California, Thriftway has cayenne in bulk as well.

As Que pointed out, it's next to nothing for a small amount. Thriftway's price from a recent purchase @ 6.89/lb, was 0.06lb for $0.41.

Free! (minds out of the gutters, please)

Amazon currently has listed 125 albums for free MP3 download. A number of these are single songs, or EPs – having only 4 tracks or so. But there are a good number of full albums. And hey, at that price, you can afford to sample as much as you want!

So, here's the link to the free albums page:

    http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&rh=n%3A318774011%2Cp_n_feature_browse-bin%3A625150011&pf_rd_p=497095671&pf_rd_s=right-4&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=678551011&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=10BP2TJV7JA3W8J4JYWN

Oh, and if you want to know about other deals they may have on music downloads (like the 25 days of free Christmas songs):

Hi All: Yah, West is the Best! Thank you all for chiming in! Did I say chiming? Just an addendum — last two days have seen just beautiful skies, perfect winds from the north, and cold, very clear Puget Sound conditions. I was out both days at Lowman Beach getting over-hyped on the elements on my sailboard going 25 mph… yah, West is Best! Did I mention, you can actually catch some small waves off the south end of Lowman on a 15-22 mph north wind… did I say I was hyped, or what? Have a very ducky day!

We were at West Seattle Nursery last night and picked up a beautiful tree. I am very excited! My tree will be decked out with vintage decorations this weekend. I am foregoing the large bulb lights for the first time and replaced them with LED strings from McClendons. I am hoping to get some of the same effect that I want with a vintage tree.

It would be fun to have a page here at WSB where we could post Christmas Tree pictures.

Yes!!! Please, please visit the site to see how a minimal ($.03/lb.) fee on pet food could make a HUGE impact on pet overpopulation in Washington. Read about how other states have adopted similar spay/neuter assistance programs, some decreasing shelter euthanasia by 75%. Saving lives is reason enough, but in a time when animal care and control budgets are being slashed – or in some cases eliminated – this could also bring considerable financial savings. Go to http://www.savewashingtonpets.org , sign up for their newsletter, and find out how you can tell our legislators that you want to be part of the solution. Too many don’t even know this bill is being considered.

The house across the street from us is not a rental. Windows are all uncovered, draped open all the time, etc… It is a dead giveaway that someone is not home with the porch light shining all the time and the packages out front.

As for packages swiped, last year I had several Christmas packages delivered to the wrong address even thoug my name and address was clearly on the packages and get this the people kept those packages and handed out the items to the neighborhood children! And we never leave mail with checks inside in our mailbox and always go to the bank to pick up new checks.

We have acouple houses on our street that the porch lights are on all the time, packages are delivered and left on the front steps and the poor mailman has no where to place the mail since the mailbox is full. Wouldn’t you think this is a definite sign that no one is home??? Is your neighborhood so safe that you can leave your home for weeks?

Check out Costco. We got an energy efficient dish that uses something like the same amt of power as a light bulb. Really puts out nice toasty heat and a lovely glow. Was only around $50.

Oh Dawsonct. JC was a national embarrassment. The law of unintended consequences resonates loudly from all political actions.

Mr. Carter should be remembered as a failure. FDR is this icon but if you compare the economies of America compared to other industrialized nations of the time, America was worse off due to government meddling. 20% unemployment compared to 11% elsewhere.

Who threw 175,000 people in jail for alternative political opinions? Woodrow Wilson. A Democrat.

Who sent a whole ethnic group into internment camps? FDR , Gee, a Democrat.

Which party never wanted to deal with slavery? Gee the Democrats. Aren’t you proud of Martin Van Buren, his party patronage and cronyism?

Which party caused the killing fields in Cambodia? I bet it wasn’t the Republicans pulling that funding since the midterm elections in ’74 populated congress with a whole lot more Democrats.

Kennedy almost got us nuked while satisfying his …human needs which the ‘below’ the beltway press kept quiet about.

Why did LBJ feel that he would be hated by his own party for the Civil Rights Act? Wow, more Democrats.

Our history had way too many Northern Men with Southern Sensibilities. It wasn’t the Republicans who initiated the Jim Crow laws.

Now, lets give the former party of the people some credit. FDR did lead America through most of the dark days of WWII and Social Security has provided a safety net (too bad it is going broke due to bipartisan mismanagement). Harry Truman led us through the end of the war and reconstruction of Europe. Kennedy cut taxes for more revenue for the government, led us to the moon, and more importantly started the Civil Rights Act. Bill Clinton balanced the budget. (So why is Obama not doing so? We know Bush II didn’t so why is BHO following in W’s footsteps?)

Now, I am certain you can bring up Nixon and other Republican mistakes with Glee. You should as long as they are the truth and not rhetoric. But why doesn’t the current President bring up the economic malaise and numbers of the late 70’s and early 80’s more often instead of the Great Depression? Because Hoover is more politically expedient than Carter. This is why the left hates history that doesn’t fit into the utopian dream.

After 100 years of slow Progressive indoctrination and the current President pushing those principles in a very expensive and at times a far left agenda, the right is going to push back and react. Yes, it is easy to make fun of a “teabagger” and call us extremists but unfortunately the shooter of Fort Hood puts it all into perspective.

The democrats are in charge now. They need to take ownership of what they are doing now and the future success and consequences. They have and will pass more bills that cost us more and more. Some of these bills will not work and some may. We shall see won’t we.

I definitely lean right but I don’t trust any of them.

Dear coupon fans, please check the WSB Coupons page (tab under the header) – we’ve added a few new ones, including a few bucks off Thanksgiving-to-go at PCC. More to come. Meantime, love the frugality tips. I miss the days of double coupons – when I was a starving 20something in my first apartment, across from an Albertson’s in Davis, CA, I remember paying almost nothing for groceries when big coupons came around!

I’ll second the great experience at WC Albertson’s. When I did call for the appt. (I just can’t entertain the walk-in line and would drive a little farther for the alternative), I only got a busy signal once. Friendly, organized, and kid got in and out quickly for the mist yesterday. I don’t see many on the KC site that are addressing the very young, so I’m at a loss as to what’s supposed to be happening there. :(
