I have lived in many places, from Southern California, to Honolulu, to Vancouver, B.C., to Kansas. A couple of places were pretty nice, but they never had the drama, the charisma, the peace, the moodiness, the beauty of moonsets and sunsets over rugged, tall mountains, across a stretch of water that is a recreationist’s paradise.

So, there. I love this place! And, I am so thankful for being here. (Not to mention, maybe I should mention, the people of West Seattle rock!)

Best wishes this holiday season! Ron

    Yep! What Ron said!

Granted, the only other place that I have lived was that 4.5 year stint over on the Kitsap Peninsula around 40 years ago, so I don’t really have anything else to compare to, but I never tire of the natural beauty, and the small town feel of West Seattle.

And the Ducky Reserve is the icing on the cake! ;-)

gogo…welcome to the peninsula…or the “island” as some of us call it. WS is a great place to live….absolutely NOTHING like the eastside. Again….welcome !! :)

Hi All: Yah, West is the Best! Thank you all for chiming in! Did I say chiming? Just an addendum — last two days have seen just beautiful skies, perfect winds from the north, and cold, very clear Puget Sound conditions. I was out both days at Lowman Beach getting over-hyped on the elements on my sailboard going 25 mph… yah, West is Best! Did I mention, you can actually catch some small waves off the south end of Lowman on a 15-22 mph north wind… did I say I was hyped, or what? Have a very ducky day!

Hi JoB: You comparing me to a goose? (Said in my best Charles Bronson voice…) heehee…

Not cold in the water, when you are in a wetsuit, and have booties and gloves on, plus a vest…. toasty. And, well, totally ducky!

However, it can be a bit dangerous without all the above. I once pretty much froze my fingertips to a pre-frost bite condition by wearing worn out gloves that had holes in the fingertips last year when the wind chill on the water was probably 20. Hmmmm… lesson learned.

when it comes to sitting in the sound, the goose is better equipped than you.. even in a wetsuit, booties, gloves and vest…

but the goose probably wasn't having as much fun:)

Okay, so you are saying I should find a goose down wetsuit… which reminds me, I would be out later today and tomorrow if I wasn't working all weekend… ugh… supposed to be some really good wind later today. Totally lulu…

    LOL..i don't think down is the answer…

there is a reason a goose is so fat:)))

and i am not advocating that either.

sorry you won't get to play in the water this weekend.

me neither:( hubby just came in from walking the pups and says i will need longies and lots of wool just to leave the house… brrr

today would be a good day to be a goose:))))

I've been away for awhile but I'm catching up. I am so thankful to be living in West Seattle near the water of Puget Sound near enough to hear the waves lapping against the rocks. As for playing in the water — I go for the kayak and round trips to Blake Island. Truly sublime to start out early in the morning with the full moon setting over the mountains and the air full of stillness.
