Today i realize that i haven’t had a dropped call in West Seattle since we changed our service to Verizon.

Dropped calls and poor reception were a regular feature for me when we had T-mobile…

Of course we got kick-a.. phones… and that is a big plus… but the improvement in service is worth mentioning.

to droid or not to droid ?

i can tell you that after nearly a month, both the “techno-geek” in our family and the “i don’t need that much from a phone” members vote yes.

The first time i walked into the grocery and accessed the shared grocery list that hubby had created on his phone, i was sold.

it doesn’t hurt that i have a mega grandma points app that points to the sky and gives me a starmap:)

    or built in GPS.. or….

in a pinch, you can even use it as a mirror :)))

“in a pinch, you can even use it as a mirror”

    JoB, are you serious? =:-O

Is there some app that puts a surface on the screen that actually reflects an image in front of it?

Or, are you just using a shiny part of the case of the phone? ;-)

    Signed,

    A sooo not techno-geek, Mike

For myself, I find phones to be a nusciance in general. You know, the old always rings at the most inconvenient time, etc, so have never had a great desire and don’t have a great need for a cell phone. (Although, I was given a second-hand cell a year ago, by a relative, and do plan to activate with some sort of pre-pay setup, someday, so I don’t have to hurt my brain figuring out a contract, and possibly hurt my wallet by misunderstanding one :-) )

But, I do like gadgets, and am fascinated with what I hear/read about the I-Phone and others, and would likely also have fun finding and using different apps!

    miws..

the funny thing is that i keep hitting something that turns down or turns off the ringer.. so right now it’s not working very well as a phone.. for people who call me:)

but, i too hate to be tethered to a phone… and used to turn my cellphone off unless i wanted to make a call.. so in a funny way this works for me.

i just check for missed calls and messages regularly..

i am sure hubby will find an app to fix that too since he is the one who thinks i should always answer when he calls :(

i’ll enjoy it while it lasts.

I misread the title of this thread and thought it was a “rant” about verizon service coverage.. which struck me as odd because I’ve never experienced a problem with verizon anywhere both in town and they’re the only carrier I can get at my parents house out in the woods. “Rave” makes more sense. I don’t use the fancy cell phones either, only bottom of the line freebies for me.

The ubiquitousness of personal telephony seems very strange to me.

    austin..

i felt the same way.. especially about the last computer enabled phone i had…

but this one is different for me. it’s essentially a very interactive personal computer that also takes and makes calls.

it’s a camera and MP3 player and personal library and photo album and address book and grocery list and notebook and search engine and GPS and navigator and traffic alert and level and comparison shopper/discount generator/scanable coupon book and ???

i haven’t started looking at apps for myself yet… i suspect i will like it even more when i figure out what it can really do for me. hubby and i don’t always want the same things ;-)

I didn’t expect to buy anything more than a simple phone this time and i didn’t expect to get so much use out of this one…

but i was pretty sure i was going to be tickled to be back in the verizon network.. and i am.
