Hello! We are looking for a part-time nanny to come to our home and care for our girls (2. 5 years old and 5 years old) this summer — June, July and August– with the goal of staying on through fall (with potential for increased hours). We live in the Admiral neighborhood of West Seattle and also have a doodle dog. My husband and I will be at the house working remotely in offices while the nanny is here with our girls. We can guarantee 75 hours a month, 5 hours per day, M-F between hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. (or 10 a.m. and 3pm), with potential for more hours. Our ideal nanny lives in or near West Seattle due to bridge closure commute complications, is energetic and caring, has experience working with young children and a preferred background in education or human development. Please contact me if you’re interested.

Around 1PM today our families car was vandalized between Lander and Olga on 38th. Very clearly this isn’t an actual “tagger” and most likely a child who did this. If you live in this area and have either security cameras we would greatly appreciate your help. Here is the picture to the “beautiful” work this POS did.

If you are in need of non-medical face masks, I am sewing them, and asking for a donation to cover the cost of materials. Most people are giving me around $5 per mask, but some give a bit less, and others have given me as much as $10 a piece. Thank you in advance for helping me to purchase more fabric and elastic, etc. with your donations.

You can view the 24 different fabric designs, and read all the details about them on my ebay posting here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/324161392255. Since there are tons of face masks for sale on ebay already, I am not getting many sales there. But I am not really interested in making money from my face masks. I’ve given many out to friends and family members already and have gotten lots of positive feedback.

FYI, my face masks have 3 layers for more protection: 1 layer of non-woven interfacing sewn between 2 layers of 100% pre-washed cotton fabric. Bendable wire sewn in along bridge of nose for tighter fit. If you need a larger or smaller mask, or would prefer ties instead of elastic then email me, and I will try to accommodate your needs. The custom sizes and styles are more labor-intensive so an additional donation is appreciated.

I will be adding 12 more fabric designs to my ebay listing within the next few days!
If you live in the area we could do a no-contact porch pick up or I could mail them to you, if you’d prefer. People have been leaving cash in an envelope for me upon pickup, or sending me their donation via Venmo. Feel free to email me (stacey1955@gmail.com) if you want to arrange to get some of my handmade face masks. Turnaround times vary, depending on how many orders are ahead of yours at the time you place your order.

    Stay safe, everyone!

He was a King County Sheriff’s Deputy killed on duty in the 1950s. He was involved in recreational fishing in his off time, so was honored posthumously by having the boat launch named after him. More on him here: https://behindthebadgefoundation.org/rollcall/armeni-deputy-donald-a/

The permit that was quoted above does not represent the work that was done. I can also see the work and the photo simulation given in the permit application shows work entirely different from what was built. The photo simulation showed a cellular antenna placed on the side of the building, while the new construction is a new microwave repeater structure built on the roof.

The permit is here. I’ve uploaded photos of both the photo sim in the permit and the structure that was actually built so you can compare them yourselves, check out the comparison here.

Unless there is indeed another permit that I couldn’t find, this might be unpermitted work.

What ever happened with the pilot ebike program with seattle parks and rec for trails and the 15 mph limit? The proposed and approved pilot was from Aug 2018-Aug 2019.

And, don’t be going 20 mph on shared-use paths and trails! It is really important especially for e-bike riders on heavier bikes to go slowly and announce their intentions when approaching pedestrians, dogs, children on bikes, and when passing other bike riders. The speed limit is 15 on King County trails. Seattle doesn’t yet have a set limit, but has this regulation:

Section 11.44.120 RIDING ON A SIDEWALK OR PUBLIC PATH.
Every person operating a bicycle upon any sidewalk or public path shall operate the same in a careful and prudent manner and a rate of speed no greater than is reasonable and proper under the conditions existing at the point of operation, taking into account the amount and character of pedestrian traffic, grade and width of sidewalk or public path, and condition of surface, and shall obey all traffic control devices. Every person operating a bicycle upon a sidewalk or public path shall yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian thereon, and shall give an audible signal before overtaking and passing any pedestrian.

And this information for all users of shared-use paths.

Thanks for the tip regarding United Airlines. I read that just today, United Airlines is requiring all flight attendants to wear facemasks, and providing such to its employees. As 350 flight attendants have contracted the Coronavirus and several have died, it is good to see an airline taking steps to keep its employees and customers safe.

Now that we’ve all been told to wear masks, questions are swirling around what kind to wear? Today’s New York Times features a helpful photo spread explaining the four kinds: N95, Medical, Homemade, and Homemade with Filters, and states that the Homemade model (which we are producing) “can sometimes protect the way a simple medical version does.” It also notes that the fourth kind, with pocket for filter, “can be effective but present risks.” So we’re sticking with the Homemade model and orders can be placed now for early-mid May pick-up. Thanks for reading, and for wearing those masks!
