montanapupParticipantAnyone experiencing internet outage? All day!

WSBKeymasterWe have both CL and Comcast and I switched off the former during a blip earlier today. Seems to be OK now, though.

SteeeeeveParticipantCL is horrible, this is common. Xfinity has the same or even better deals sometimes. I’ve gone days at a time with only maybe an hours internet and they charge for someone to come out to look at it. It was good for a couple of months then became terrible. Run away from CL as fast as you can. Trust me. There are millions of complaints and they do not fix it. By the way when I called to cancel they said they would send someone to fix it for FREE so I gave them a chance and not only did they not fix it but they charged me! Again this has happened to others. So I cancelled and they billed me again which I gladly paid cause I knew the nightmare was over. Use wolves bane, garlic, crucifix, silver bullet thermo-nuclear strike, whatever it takes but get outta that headache.

montanapupParticipantI’ve had it for three years now, this is the first time I’ve run into an issue. I’ve done everything to troubleshoot. They are sending somebody out on Monday. So I am literally without Internet. Now I’m wondering how long it will take me to get Comcast. I agree both are terrible, but we’re kind of held hostage to the only two that are around in the city of Seattle.

heartlessParticipantNot to jump to CL’s defense, but a bunch of the internet went down today:

WSBKeymasterJust saw that today and I suspect that’s what I encountered, since it displayed as a fleeting DNS error.

montanapupParticipantI agree, I checked Maps. I was hoping it would resolve, but after various troubleshooting methods, no joy. So I am stuck here without Internet. Looks like somehow the outage crossed the lines of input an output for LAN/WAN. So my Internet light just keeps blinking on and off. Red and green. Oh well.

valvashonParticipantWe have CL’s 100 up/100 down service and have been very happy with it. Occasionally there are days where our router (a D-Link) freezes up and our wi-fi signal either disappears or shows up but doesn’t allow a connection. Wired connections go down too at that point. It will operate for weeks with no problems, then we’ll have a bad day with lots of router restarting.
For example, I did have to re-start the router this morning but it was good until late last night. I suspect that it burps sometimes due to CL network work but haven’t been able to track down the exact problem. I did figure out a hack to use my own router (not the one they want to rent you) so it may be less resilient to coming back after whatever network work they are doing, if that’s the problem.Other than that we’ve been happy with the uptime, the speed (especially since we upgraded to the 100/100 plan) and the price which has actually dropped with the increased speed.
I think that CL fiber is great- if you are still trying to use CL DSL service I would look elsewhere. That’s a dying technology.

montanapupParticipantWaited all day. Called Centurylink twice, was promised the technician would have my service up today. After speaking with the second technician representative, found that my ticket was placed on the back burner despite escalation. Not sure why the prior representative promised or guaranteed a technician today. Finally, reached another and 3rd representative out of Boise Idaho, apologized profusely and said that I would have a technician tomorrow as it was obvious I was having no connectivity. If I don’t get this fixed by tomorrow I’m just calling the other service provider. I’m sure that will be quicker than waiting for a technician to come out. Pandemic no pandemic this is ridiculous. Can’t understand why Seattle allows these knucklehead monopolies to control services.

HappyOnAlkiParticipantYou don’t have to pay for days when your service is out!
According to the Seattle Cable Customer Biill of Rights (!), if you lose service for more than an hour, you’re entitled to “one day’s free service for the day the customer reports the system outage and for each additional day the outage continues.”

montanapupParticipantUpdate: I had to call Century link again to ask when the technician was coming out today. Apparently I was promised Monday, however it’s scheduled and booked out until Tuesday. I understand they are busy, however why they promise or make claims to customers regarding service is questionable. I’ve been without service now for five days. I was promised a call an hour after today’s discussion with the technical support representative, and I have yet to receive any phone calls or messages. That was this morning at 11 AM. It’s now 2:30 PM. Close of business is 5 PM. I’ve started looking into the other Internet service now, might be quicker to start a new service and just cancel this one. Why we allow such a monopoly within the city of Seattle regarding Internet service is a mystery to me. And trying to obtain a live human person to discuss this is like pulling teeth. Egregious business practices.
