LOL luckymom30! Yep, he sure has…to his foster family. It’s what we call a ‘failed foster.’ AARF sent out an email today, announcing that Kismet had becoming a permanent member of the family.

To clarify, the director of SDOT (which does NOT manage buses, but manages the roads), Peter Hahn, is on the agenda for the Southwest District Council, 6:30 pm Wednesday, March 6th, their regular monthly meeting, at the Southwest Teen Life Center, 2801 SW Thistle. Public welcome. This is not specifically ABOUT RapidRide – it did come up in comments following our news story about the “safety curb” being installed at Fauntleroy/California.
Most likely he will say a few words, council members (who represent community groups/orgs around the area) will ask questions, any member of the public will be invited to ask questions. But he is the transportation director for the city, not the county (which manages Metro). Nonetheless, if it’s happening on a city road, buses involved or not, he should hear about it, so c’mon down.
The new Westwood/Roxhill/Arbor Heights community council will usually meet on the first Tuesdays but for this, its second meeting, that didn’t work, so it’s the first Wednesday. 6:30 pm at the Southwest Library branch. I joined the West Seattle Nanny network on facebook, but so far it’s been mostly people posting about availability for the occasional weeknight, sitting gigs. Maybe if more people joined it would be a better place to find care.

Thanks for your post. We have worked really hard in WSB discussions to refute the incorrect and inaccurate stereotypes some cling to regarding eastern West Seattle. Crime, for example, happens everywhere. Both of last year’s West Seattle murders happened west of California SW. And in all contexts (though a few commenters have tried vehemently to disagree), on WSB, West Seattle is ALL of West Seattle – from the Duwamish shores to Elliott Bay to open Puget Sound on the west, to the city limits on the south. And in the southeast, that means all the way to Nickelsville, to Myers Way …
Not to try to refute any of what you write about … I am white and have only experienced racism while living as a teenager in a city (Honolulu) where my ethnicity was in the minority, so I can’t pretend to have any firsthand idea what it is like here. But there were two things I wanted to react to:

Second, regarding Pagliacci: We wrote about that here years ago. It’s not a race thing. They draw a line that has still after all these years advanced only as far as Holden – it used to be Brandon – and that cuts off a whole lot of the peninsula, period, regardless of residents’ ethnicity or economics. I live in one of the neighborhoods they won’t deliver to. While we’re not rich and don’t have an even remotely fancy house, we are across the street from expensive view properties on two sides. No Pagliacci for them either. (While the neighborhood is not entirely white, of the people I’ve met, I’d call it 90 percent.) The company insists they couldn’t get pizzas to this neighborhood in deliverably hot condition … only 1 1/2 miles away … seems silly since we’ve done it ourselves many times, but oh well, we just call Zeeks (WSB sponsor), which has a wide delivery area, Pagliacci’s loss.

i just saw the closed thread about road rage. i live in the same general area as elizabeth/elaine.
about 6 weeks ago, my wife was driving home on evening commute across the bridge. she checked her mirrors, signalled, and changed lanes. then she heard honking. to her surprise, a late-model black BMW sedan filled her rearview mirror.
she doesn’t know if she inadvertently cut him off (blind spot), if he was doing 90 across the bridge and she didn’t notice him in her immediate area, or if he was behind her and moved to pass before she did.
my wife is not an ignorant driver, nor is she malicious. why risk your property and your health on a drive home?
so the story goes that at the next opportunity, this guy cut back in front of her and slammed on the brakes in the middle of the bridge, which she anticipated. so he speeds off. she catches up to him at 35th and fauntleroy and is not happy about the prospect of seeing this guy again. he starts flipping her off – again – then crosses two lanes of traffic once the light turns green just to tailgate her and begin the road-raging/menacing again.
so she whips a hard right into taco time/starbucks and locks the doors, preparing to lay on the horn, call police, attract attention, etc., thinking he might follow her. she thought he was attempting the avalon entrance for that confrontation, but may have been foiled by traffic turning in/out, so he sped off westbound on avalon and toward the junction.
i urged her to file a police report to get it on record, but she refused. and no plate nummbers. (and if i had them, i wouldn’t attempt to post them.)
anyone else encounter this guy?
The parking placards come from the Department of Licensing, so you can probably call them at (360) 902-3770 or drop it off at one of the offices: https://fortress.wa.gov/dol/dolprod/vehoffices/DisplayOffices.aspx?County=17 Each pass has a # on it, so they’ll know who it belongs to.
If someone does contact you to say it might be theirs, when the placards are issued you also get an ID card proving that it’s yours. So make sure you get a match on that card. Mine has my name, date of birth, expiration date of the placards, and the ID #s on both of my placards, so along with my license to prove that the name/DOB are me, I’d be able to prove whether it’s mine or not. (It’s not mine, by the way – both of mine are accounted for – just letting you know how to ID it in case somebody contacts you.)

When you chose to purchase a puppy or dog from a pet store or online ad,(e.g., Craigslist), you are more than likely supporting the cruelty of a puppy mill. Ignorance is not bliss folks.
Adopt…don’t shop. Petfinder lists adoptable dogs from all over the Country. We have dozens of great dog (and cat) rescue groups in Washington!
If the ‘demand’ for pet store/online ad pups and dogs goes down, then the number of puppy mills will decrease. It’s simple economics–supply and demand. Each of us has the power to help put these folks out of business by withholding our dollars. Exercise your economic POWER!

I just saw a story on the local news about this. It’s called Care Simple, and is only available in WA and CA right now. You have to have a webcam, and can stay home, talk to a physician, get treated for lots of things – like cold, flu (who wants to go out to a doc when you have the flu?) Yes, it costs, but not as much as a doc visit, and there is a months subscription with a 5 buck deductible, they said. Maybe be something some people want to check out.

We’ve used Mark Kessler for a couple of small jobs. Great guy! Affordable too. He doesn’t charge you to come out and assess the job, like other companies do. Recently I had a freak out moment about electrical wires and I called Mark to ask his opinion. He was happy to chat with me, no charge of course.

I hope this doesn’t get busted as stealth advertising, but Full Tilt Ice Cream is on the move again. I think this is relevant because it shows how you can make it big and still stay local.
It’s also a good way to start a juicy rumor that Full Tilt might be thinking about doing burgers.
