    The Alki Art Fair is a beach-side festival that brings people of all ages, cultures and backgrounds together to celebrate local arts and music. Our goal is to promote art education and appreciation by creating opportunities for community involvement and cultural diversity through the arts. The Fair features more than 100 local artists and craft vendors, live music, interactive kid’s activities, food, and a beer garden. This year’s Fair will be held July 25-26.

    We’re a tribe of folks who share a passion for art, craftspeople and our community. If you share these same passions, we’d love your help – It’s a great way to get involved and flex your creative chops while lending your leadership, communication and organizational skills to the fair and the greater community.

    We seek a Volunteer Coordinator to work with the Fair Director and the Board of Directors to facilitate the recruitment and coordination of the Fair’s volunteers. This is an unpaid volunteer position. The ideal candidate resides in the greater Seattle area, can be in West Seattle for meetings (once a month) and the Fair weekend. While we would love for someone to serve for more than one Fair year, it is not required.

    Previous experience working with, or organizing volunteers is preferred and greatly appreciated.

    Job Description: Providence is calling a Teacher to the Intergenerational Learning Center (ILC) (Child Care Services, Day Shift, 0.625 FTE) at Providence Mount St. Vincent in Seattle, Washington.

    The Explorers Club Teacher position is a fun and unique opportunity to work with our oldest preschoolers as well as toddlers every day. The work shift is 12:30-6 pm and from 12:30-3 you would be teaching up to 14 preschoolers, spending about 60 percent of your time outdoors and developing activities to support playing in nature in all weather. From 3:30-6 pm you will be assigned a toddler classroom to support until the number of children is in ratio with the remaining regular teacher.

    In this position you will:
    Be responsible for the overall care of children in the Intergenerational Learning Center. This includes the planning and implementation of an age appropriate program, development of interesting, stimulating and challenging indoor and outdoor environment and planning appropriate daily activities.

    Be responsible for developing an intergenerational program and nurturing interaction between clients and children. Included in these responsibilities are maintaining the classroom, preparing materials for the children and certain clerical and record keeping duties. Plan and implement the daily scheduled activities, indoor and outdoor environments and all other aspects of the children’s program; This program reflects physical, cognitive, social and emotional needs of
    the children and is developmentally appropriate; Teacher is or becomes familiar with Focused Portfolios and Focused Planning for Infants, Toddlers and Preschool.

    Perform the following when appropriate: Changing diapers, keeping children clean, assisting with eating/feeding, holding, rocking, talking with/to, and engaging in play activities on a daily basis.

    Use appropriate interactive strategies per approved guidelines; For example: Using active listening, helping children learn to problem solve through negotiation and encouragement of children’s own thinking, using appropriate limit setting strategies like I-messages, giving information, contingencies, natural and logical consequences or choices.

    General Responsibilities: Provides supervision of the front of house during performances and special events. This position is responsible for audience seating, customer service, hospitality and maintaining audience and volunteer safety at all times. This position coordinates with the Production Stage Manager during performances and acts as shift supervisor collaborating with front of house paid staff and coordinating volunteers.

    Hours: Part-time, evenings and some weekend matinees with shifts ranging from 2-5 hours depending on the length of the production run. Shifts are on a sign up, first-reply first scheduled basis. This position is seasonal – September thru July as dictated by our theater season calendar.

    Supervision: This position reports to the Box Office Manager & Volunteer Coordinator.

    Salary: $15.50/hr or Seattle City minimum wage.

    Specific Responsibilities:
    • Opening and closing the theater for performances, special events and rentals.
    • Maintaining the safety and comfort of the public at all times.
    • Creating the ideal conditions for their enjoyment of ArtsWest’s programs
    • Assist the public with special needs (including early seating for injured or disabled persons) and train ushers in matters of audience safety and emergency evacuation.
    • Act as liaison between ArtsWest and the public in addressing their concerns courteously and promptly plus set a professional tone for all, whether patrons or volunteers
    • Count/reconcile cash tills to concession reports
    • Work with Box Office to seat latecomers
    • Provide lobby security during performances and other events
    • Manage emergency situations involving audience members and the public
    • Works in consultation with Production Stage Management to hand over a seated audience ready for the performance.

    House Managers may be asked to cross-train in box office and bartending.

    Qualifications:
    • A smiling team player with the ability to work with minimal supervision and to remain calm under pressure.
    • Successful applicant must possess excellent customer service skills and attention to details and meet
    Washington State Patrol criminal background check prior to employment.
    • Practical experience in hospitality, audience services and experience as a volunteer are a plus
    • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office – word, excel; experience with ticketing systems a plus
    • First aid training is helpful.

    Note: Washington liquor and food handling training and certification are required – the fee and time spent in class are paid for by ArtsWest.
