It’s interesesting that the national news states that Palin’s family released the news of her daughter’s pregnancy to rebut rumors that Trig was actually the daughter’s child. Why are they so worried about making a rebuttal, if as Danno puts it, it’s a story from “Kos is not just “very liberal,” my opinion is that it is a cesspool of hate”. Why lend a “cesspool of hate” any credence by issuing a rebuttal?
Something still smells in the State of Denmark. I don’t know if the original story about Trig belonging to the daughter is true or not, but I feel for her daughter either way, since this is not her choice to put her personal business out to the country and the world. As someone who works with teenagers, this must be so difficult for her – her mom doesn’t seem to be very concerned about her daughter’s feelings or privacy.
I am concerned with the sequence of events that occured when Palin began going into labor – that is chilling if true and shows extremely poor judgment on her part – not the type of person qualified to run the USA. I’d like to hear her explain why she went to such lengths to deliver a premature Down’s Syndrome baby so far away from facilities that were clearly the safest and best option for that situation. It definitely appears to be a dangerous and reckless decision and adds to the mystery surrounding Trig’s birth.
Kudos, mellaw6565. I agree wholeheartedly. I like that this can be a very welcoming and open-minded blog (though maybe a little left-leaning at times, but it is after all West Seattle.) I really do enjoy these posts and enjoy those that can challenge my views. Doing so without support or respect, however, just annoys me.
My problem is not the rumor, but the continuous hypocrisy of a platform of “abstinence only” policy in our schools and seventeen year olds becoming pregnant before finishing a High School education.
This is one of many “family values” a particular party likes to invoke in it’s leadership and policy. In turn, we find out that politician after politcian can’t live up to that ideology.
I highly encourage you to contact HomeWard Pet out of Woodinville if you cannot find his owner yourself. They are the only no-kill shelter in King County and will be a safer refuge for him than the others: http://homewardpet.org/
But do concealed pistol holders actually make society safer, a kind of armed public service?
Mark Duncan, deputy police chief on Bainbridge Island, said that’s a difficult question to answer. An easier question for him is whether they make society more dangerous. His answer is no.
“The cases of someone misusing their concealed pistol license are virtually unheard of,” he said.

I really hate to post this again… but this weekend has been an absolute awful weekend for dogs off leash! We adopted a new dog, a possibly dog aggressive large terrier mix. My other can be dog aggressive when on leash, when approached by off leash dogs. He was attacked several years ago by an off leash pit bull and nearly died. I’ve been working really hard to restore his confidence. We had been trying really hard to stay close by, in the neighborhood, so we wouldn’t come into any scary circumstances with the new dog. So what happens?
This afternoon I took the dogs just on a short walk around the neighborhood. Two Border collies with their fence open come flying at my small dog, attacking him. The “new” big dog was a saint and put herself between them, trying to fend off the bigger dogs. The owner of the dogs didn’t seem to care until I yelled several times for him to call his dogs off. I thought about calling animal control, but really didn’t want to upset the neighbors if it were a true accident, which it could have been.
Then this evening, like 15 minutes ago, I took them out one last time to go potty. We finished going around the block and turned to go back down the alley to our house when a pit bull came flying down the alley at us, off leash, with the owner running/yelling behind. Again, I yelled, “Call your dog back, I don’t know how they will react.” The dog was not under voice command, but luckily stopped 5 feet from my dogs, and my dogs reacted amazingly well! I am just feeling so discouraged this weekend. I adopted this sweet dog who might possibly have dog aggression issues while on a leash, how can I help this if we are constantly confronted by off leash dogs? Especially aggressive off leash dogs? PLEASE, if your dog can’t be called back, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep it on a leash when you are around any other dogs!
As mentioned on the home page a couple times in recent days, we are switching servers/hosts to increase capacity and reliability.
If all goes well, that’s going to happen starting at midnight tonight, and we have to disable the posting of new content at that time, so that we don’t lose anything while moving the databases to the new server.
That means that, until the move is complete, we will be disabling posting in the forum AND posting comments elsewhere on the site.
If any major West Seattle news happens overnight while this is going on, we will post it at:
http://westseattleblog.wordpress.com
as well as sending out Twitter updates
http://twitter.com/westseattleblog
In the morning, I will post something like “forums open again” when everything seems to be up and running on the new server – although as previously noted, some ISPs don’t detect the server change immediately, so if you don’t see new WSB content here or on the home page, oh, say, tomorrow morning, there’s a chance your ISP is still looking at the old server (which will be frozen in time for a while) — if you think that’s happened, e-mail us (westseattleblog@yahoo.com is an address that won’t be affected in the transition) to let us know.
thanks
always trying to make the site better …

Ken I actually care if a woman is going to stand on her soapbox about pro-life and use the example of her pregnancy to move people, and in actuality (if true) never had to “choose” to keep a pregnancy. Plus, be it as it may sometimes the tabloids are the first to crack a major story (Edwards) and then the legit news picks it up after more and more facts come out. She is also a heartbeat away from possibly running our entire country. Im sorry but this woman I DO NOT want running things.
Hi WSBloggers!
I wanted to inform you all that I have re-registered to have a new screen name that in no way is affiliated to my place of work. (I am becoming more and more interested in participating in political threads, which should be kept separate).
So all of you that are familiar with “thriftwaygirl”, I am now HunterG. Thriftwaygirl will only show up in Job Opening posts etc…
What’s with all the walkers on the bike path? I mean come on people, it’s not that hard. There are clearly noticeable biking symbols painted on the path at every cross walk. The walking and biking paths are seperated for walker and biker safety alike. Are these clueless strollers locals or tourists?!
Like I’ve said, we’ve used Jeff for all of his classes. Our dog didn’t really need all the training, but we just really liked him and our dog enjoyed going there. The advanced obedience class was great! It involves basic agility. Cheese was the only treat that would get our dog to jump through the hoop.
The growl class wasn’t around when we went there. One of our classes had a aggressive Australian Shepherd who would growl, nip, and bark constantly. By the third class, Jeff and his staff had the dog playing with all the other dogs.
I would highly recommend him to anyone. I think he also does individual house calls if you don’t want to commit to a class.
Personally, I would consider Obama’s LIFE a flip flop.
When all that came out about Rev. Wright and it got to the point that Obama had to FINALLY denounce him and remove him from his life (after, what was it, a 30 year relationship?), wouldn’t that be considered a flip flop “IN ORDER TO PANDER TO A DIFFERENT CONSTITUENCY”? If it isn’t, my question is: why not?
And what kind of principles does a man have that it would have to get to that level before he finally did something about it?
House, you are right, they all can, very easily, be accused of the same thing – *ss kissing.
GenHill, I have the same problem with Amazon Fresh…I compare two things: diet barq and cat litter. AF is twice as much as safeway and never has a sale. We do use delivery for heavy things and “staples” and I do mind their random substitution. MIL only wants one kind of frozen chicken dinner and NO they cannot bring me another kind. Usually can get a “free delivery” deal, so, much as AF is tempting, for now, we stick to Safeway. (I’m posting this, not to debate, but so someone can tell me that if I wait long enough I can get two-fers on the Barq and <25 cents a pound for cat litter :-))
House – if you read the first lines of my post it is clear that I’m not a Repub – duh!!! You always start out your posts in an attacking and insulting manner – why would anyone want to respond to you?
You can watch an opposing side for two reasons (1) as TR put – she may be swayed or convinced of the logic of another argument or (2) to help you better define your own position or argument. I’m in the latter category at this stage personally, but as a teacher I also watch so that I can provide my students with fodder on both sides so they can make up their own minds.
So House – don’t presume to know my thoughts or attitudes. You’re very arrogant to do that.
As for Bob Barr, I would never support one of the main sponsors of DOMA and a lifelong social conservative. He was ineffective in Congress and now is attempting to be “cool” by writing for ACLU and Creative Loafing. Where was his protection of civil liberties when he was in Congress? It was with the Republicans, time and time again. IMO, I wouldn’t waste a quarter on Barr – definitely not leadership material.
We need a REAL third party – the Libertarians have never been able to rise to that level.
For someone wishing for a “fair and impartial discussion” your comments are anything but. King Obama? Coming after the royal family Georges I and II?
The experiment of democracy + capitalism IMO was bound to result in corporate control of the governance, accelerated as the free market tends to be uncontrolled, as happens with Republican administrations generally…and King George II in particular. The Chinese model is fascinating to watch, likewise the reconstructed EU, at different points of the spectrum. The problem with corporate power is that profit doesn’t have a conscience. Hello, MHC, fundies, and others!
Sara Palin fired Alaska Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan coincident with her staff pressuring Monegan to fire state trooper Mike Wooten, Palin’s ex-brother-in-law. She likely forced her daughter to carry a child then pretended to be the mother of the child.
Palin’s “family values” remind me a lot of those of the Hatfields and McCoys, of turn of the 20th century vendetta feud fame.
Right out of the Great Smoky Mountains.
Just received my 2nd order from Amazon Fresh. And like last week, I received everything I ordered, no substitutions. Different driver this time, so told him to be sure to let his superiors know that we are discussing AF on WSB and everyone is RAVING! He said he would.
I also mentioned about maybe adding a feature where we can mark ‘no substitutions’; re: in my case no FLAVORED Talking Rain substituted for PLAIN (no flavor that I’m addicted to). Will also follow up with an email to customer service at AF.
I guess we can all get along!! Looking at the posts on this thread, some of the folks that are more contentious on some other threads (hint: the political ones) are in total agreement about how awesome Amazon Fresh is. Nice to know we can find some common ground afterall!!
TR – I remember Buchanan’s speech from the RNC in 1992 clearly. It was chilling in it’s attempt to be morally superior and downright intolerant. I also remember it was around the time that I started to “come out” and it made me more afraid than ever.
Palin may in fact chase some more away to the Obama camp if her speeches are rife with similar sentiments about abortion, immigration, gay marriage, etc….. we’ll see. Then again, she may continue to pander to the base.
Perot definitely made things interesting that year. Not that he would be my pick, or Nader for that matter, but a viable 3rd party would really help to break the moneyed-interest control of elections in this country. I’m appalled that it takes more than $200 million dollars to be President of this country – it is so clear that the rich and corporations are “buying” the elections. It’s similar to things you see in third world countries, although they don’t usually have that much money and they generally don’t attempt to hide that they’re in fact buying the government.
For the record, the founders weren’t in favor of political parties, and John Adams in particular felt that the divisions might destroy the country eventually. Hmmmmm……..
I’ll check El Paisano.
I also just happened to be in Easy Street this morning at got my chorizo and eggs fix. It wasn’t great, but it satisfied and I didn’t have to clean up the kitchen after.
YAY!!!
I am so happy to hear the news. And I’m sure he is so happy to be haome safe.(*Goosebumps*) It is so wonderful to have such a caring bunch here on WSB.
