GenHillOneParticipantWhen it comes to paying for proposed (Obama) changes…seems to me we’ll have BILLIONS to redirect as we pullout of Iraq.

mellaw6565MemberHouse – read my post again. I never said he CURRENTLY sponsors it, but was one of the MAIN sponsors at it’s inception. I love how you twist things on here – no wonder you make people mad.
Barr is a wolf in sheep’s clothing – show me where he has made any lasting contributions. His State of Georgia didn’t think so.

CaitParticipantNR, can we have another example of how his life is a flipflop? I mean if we’re going to have that discussion I think we need a few more examples…
September 1, 2008 at 3:04 am #636635
TheHouseMemberCait, I know that you directed your question at NR, but here is your answer:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/02/24/AR2008022402094.html
Let me know if you want more, but Obama is more guilty of making promises he can’t keep than flip flopping.
September 1, 2008 at 3:13 am #636636
CaitParticipantThanks House – all good things to know. We live in a changing world and I shouldn’t have made flip-flopping sound so bad earlier – just so we’re clear on that one. But thanks again for the links, it’s always good to know the whole story. With my usual news sources being MSNBC.com and Keith Olberman, I’m always glad for some variety. :) If you have more, feel free to send them my way.

charlabobParticipantH, I know you wouldn’t want to miss the equivalent set of articles about McCain’s flip flops. And this was before he went from opposing the New GI Bill of Rights to taking credit for it. (As a bonus, this article includes flips and flops from other R’s who were left in the dust by the stunning Ms. Palin):
September 1, 2008 at 3:25 am #636638
CaitParticipantExactly right, Charlabob. McCain flip-flops on the things nearest and dearest to me, so that’s how I’m basing my vote. I enjoy a little flip flopping, myself. I’m looking for good judgment in my next president not head-strong ignorance. We’ve all seen where consistent voting for stupid policies has gotten us in the past four years…
September 1, 2008 at 3:25 am #636639
charlabobParticipantWell, the R’s cancelled the opening “ceremonies” for their convention — they may even manage to save themselves the embarassment of speeches by the incumbent president and vice president. Too busy managing disaster relief. The presumptuous candidate may make his acceptance speech at disaster relief central — perhaps from Trent Lott’s front porch, paid for in part by your tax money.
September 1, 2008 at 5:07 am #636640
JanSParticipantand now…one news source has said it will be a contest between the Dems and Reps to see how much more money they can raise than the other. They can’t just do it because it’s the right thing to do? Geesh…Who gives a damn whether one raises more money than the other, for G-d’s sake…just raise the damned money !!
This politicking back and forth almost makes one nauseous at times…just about as much as the faux supporters of Hillary, the faux supporters of Palin (are you listening dear, dear Mr House?), the people who claim to support whatever controversial thing or person just to get a rise from other people..sometimes it works, and sometimes it makes one sick…they’re definitely not people I’d want as close friends…just my opinion, of course…at least we can still have those here…
September 1, 2008 at 2:32 pm #636641
beachdrivegirlParticipantThanks for posting those House. Like Cait, Obamas flip-flops are not as big of a concern for me either. Pro-Choice, an energy plan (McCain is 0-8 currently when looking @ his voting record for “supporting” an energy plan), and economic policy are much larger concerns to me than where Obama is getting his campaign finances etc.
I was going to post a link for you to McCains Flip Flop list of 61 and growing but my computer is having problems posting. But i did read the funniest thing.. did you know that when it comes to Immigration policy he announced in February of 2008 that he would be voting against his own bill??? I was just trying to figure out how does that work..did he forget that it was his bill?
September 1, 2008 at 5:59 pm #636642
addParticipantI agree with Cait – I can’t stand the term “flip-flop” and how it’s used derisively. I would MUCH RATHER have a leader who takes in new information, thinks about it, and changes his/her mind because of the new info than someone who doesn’t budge no matter what. Now, that’s different from changing your position because you are trying to appease or court a particular person or group. I think it could be pretty easy to tell the difference if you looked hard enough.

Tonya42MemberMcCain will get my vote because of Palin. I only wish she were running for President.
Besides her governorship of the largest territorial State in our Union, Alaska, she challenged a corrupt system and passed a landmark ethics reform bill. She has actually used her veto and cut budgetary spending. She put a stop to the “bridge to nowhere” that would have cost taxpayers $400 million dollars. (Of which Obama voted for over and over)
She actually found the time to visit our wounded in Landstuhl, Germany!!!! And Obama didn’t..
She chose not to abort a baby on the grounds of Down Syndrome – the very ailment that doomed a baby to die inside of a soiled waste closet in Chicago in 1999…the very case for a piece of Illinois legislation called the “Born Alive Infants Protection Act” that State Senator Obama voted down while still in committee.
Overall I have to give her credit for taking on corruption, cutting wasteful spending, and supporting gay/lesbian rights and benefits for gay/lesbian couples.
Palin = True agent of Change
Obama = Loud mouthed gaffe machine who votes “present”
September 2, 2008 at 9:15 pm #636644
beachdrivegirlParticipantTonya was is her domestic policy, foreign policy, or national security experience??? That is right she has none. She is governing a state that is the size of Seattle and has only been in office for two years. She hasnt had time to follow the war b/c of all the hard work she is putting into her state Alaska. The very state she believes should secede from the US.
September 2, 2008 at 9:17 pm #636645
beachdrivegirlParticipantAlso more on topic with the title of the thread; but are Republicans bothered with the fact that over 10% of their elected US Senators are opting out of going to the conventionn! Now that is some pride!
September 2, 2008 at 9:22 pm #636646
walfredoMemberBDG- Seattle is actually 6X larger then Alaska in terms of population. Spokane/Courd’alene area has 700,000 residents, which makes it almost identical in size.
Of course population is irrelevant, as the GOP is quick to point out- the real test is how close you are to Russia by sea… And Palin is about as close as you can get, prior to Alaska’s secession which she will champion, while still being in the USA.
September 2, 2008 at 9:29 pm #636647
AnonymousInactive“The McCain campaign released a copy of Palin’s Republican voter registration card to rebut a report in The New York Times that Palin had been a member of the Alaska Independence Party, which wants the state to vote on seceding from the United States, for two years in the 1990s.
“The allegations that Gov. Palin was a member of (the) Alaska Independence Party are false. She’s never been a member of the Alaska Independence Party,” said McCain spokesman Brian Rogers.” – Holland

beachdrivegirlParticipantShe has never made this statement herself and was a guest video speaker just this past year and a guest six years ago.. hmm personally if i were running for a political office i would distance myself from groups that were so looked down upon.
September 2, 2008 at 9:35 pm #636649
AnonymousInactiveYet, BDG, it didn’t bother you that Obama didn’t distance himself from Rev. Wright, or that he hasn’t distanced himself from Ayers?
I agree that politicians should distance themselves from undesirable affiliations. But, I think they ALL should. To condemn one politician for her affiliations while supporting another with suspect affiliations doesn’t seem right.
September 2, 2008 at 9:36 pm #636650
walfredoMember“The McCain campaign today released Gov. Sarah Palin’s voter registration records in an attempt to prove that she was not a member of the Alaska Independence Party, which advocates secession. The documents suggest that Palin never formally registered to vote as AIPers. Whether she was a member in the solidary sense is another question, and one that the AIP disputes. Todd Palin, it seems, was provably a member of the AIP until 2002.”
So the group considers her a member, she shows up at there events for years and years, as recently as March of this year. Her husband is a member, and a card carrying one at that… She is a Republican governor, and the evidence that she is not a member that McCain’s team can dig up is her voter registration? So they aren’t refuting any of the other information, just confirming the lady they just chose for VP is in fact a registered republican… Glad to see that they did such careful vetting!
September 2, 2008 at 9:37 pm #636651
JoBParticipantLOL..
this is high theater.. i just wish i didn’t have other things more pressing to do than hang out and see how this idiocy develops…
Oh no.. she wasn’t a member of the Alaskan Independence Party because she was a registered republican.. no matter how many function she attended or how vocally she supported them ;~>
I have changed my mind about watching the republican convention… If these posts are any indication.. the chances of hearing anything worthwhile are pretty slim…
the only political comedy i watch these days is Jon Stewart.. and only that because hubby is a big fan.
September 2, 2008 at 9:50 pm #636652
mellaw6565MemberI started this thread, see my OP, and I would really like to read comments both pro & con while people are watching the convention (irregardless of my personal leanings).
I was hoping that the posts would be geared towards what is being seen and said during the event. Is that too much to ask?
September 2, 2008 at 9:50 pm #636653
Tonya42MemberJoB- “this is high theater.. i just wish i didn’t have other things more pressing to do than hang out and see how this idiocy develops…”
And yet you are still here….hmmm..
Beachdrivegirl – Experience you say? Obama was a junior Senator from a state for about sixteen or seventeen months before he decided he was experienced enough to be president.
Sarah Palin has been the Chief Executive of a state for nearly two years… before running as Vice President.
But Obama wants to talk about how inexperienced she is.LOL!
McCain must be giggling that Obama wants to make this election, suddenly, all about experience. Yes, let’s — let’s talk about the comparative experience of Obama and Palin every day for the next sixty seven days.
Hey Obama, Biden — how many National Guard troops do you guys command?
How many state troopers?
How many budgets have you proposed?
How many plans have you worked out with Department of Homeland Security and FEMA?
Zero?
Yeah, that’s what I thought.
September 2, 2008 at 10:02 pm #636654
mellaw6565MemberTonya – you seem to be saying the same thing over multiple threads. Maybe you want to consolidate your comments to one?
Let’s save this thread for what’s going on at the convention. If you want to talk about Palin and her candidacy in particular – there are three other threads to discuss her on. Same with McCain vs. Obama – there are other threads.
I really just wanted this one to be about what’s happening and being said at the Repub. convention.
