DannoMemberCait-
You mean this ‘positive’ challenge:
“All this dreadful vicious self-centered woman would have had to do is graciously decline the offer to be veep candidate. McInane would have gotten points and she could have saved her family the publicity. Frankly, no one cares who gets knocked up in the family of the governor of Alaska. The story was known there. Look at the damned pictures. “Someone in this family is pregnant…wonder who it is?
Doing this, and then, as they will, whining about the story is not any kind of family value.
This is yet more proof that the theocratic right is only interested in the pre-born. Imagine the effect on the daughter. This might have been her choice; but you can bet your last pamper she didn’t have a choice.”
This from Charlabob, with the upstanding MissK right behind.
I can take the heat just fine, and dish it ou right back. I just find it not worth the bother against such no-minded attitudes.
See ya

MagpieParticipantNobody forces anyone to read anything posted here…also, we in West Seattle vote, therefore, national politics have an angle even in lil ole WS. I just can’t figure out where this story is going. I wonder if the Enquirer will be paying Levi’s family (the father’s name according to CNN), for the real story. You have to feel sorry for this kid, though. Her mom could have said no to running for VP and truly put her family first.

CaitParticipant“no-minded attitudes”, I would say, is also a glowing example. As for taking it and dishing it – the “it” being referenced is a responsible, respectful argument, not an insubstantial attack against someone for their opinion or political background. If that’s all you’ve got then don’t waste our time which ever side you’re on. Keep it classy, West Seattle.
September 1, 2008 at 10:12 pm #636808
TrickParticipantMy problem is not the rumor, but the continuous hypocrisy of a platform of “abstinence only” policy in our schools and seventeen year olds becoming pregnant before finishing a High School education.
This is one of many “family values” a particular party likes to invoke in it’s leadership and policy. In turn, we find out that politician after politcian can’t live up to that ideology.

bcollinsMemberGiven the age of Palin’s infant…her 17yr could not be 5 months pregant as well as the actual mother of this child. You (missk) should be ashamed. What are your values that such an attack is appropriate?

beachdrivegirlParticipantDanno
I enjoy having people from both sides/positions post b/c it is challenging and does bring you back to what is important to you and who do you think will accomplish those things. Or even better yet makes you question or maybe even discover what is important to you. I find it funny though that you have decided not to read or respond any other political threads yet get so hung up on this Palin story. Why rather than rant about the lack of open mindedness on the blog go and be productive in another political thread actually talking about the issues that are important to you..

Yet another classy press release from Obama reiterating that peoples families and especially teenage children should be off limits to the media. What a great statement, Obama!

bcollinsMemberI agree! That is leadership and the example of values we should all look to.

mellaw6565MemberIt’s interesesting that the national news states that Palin’s family released the news of her daughter’s pregnancy to rebut rumors that Trig was actually the daughter’s child. Why are they so worried about making a rebuttal, if as Danno puts it, it’s a story from “Kos is not just “very liberal,” my opinion is that it is a cesspool of hate”. Why lend a “cesspool of hate” any credence by issuing a rebuttal?
Something still smells in the State of Denmark. I don’t know if the original story about Trig belonging to the daughter is true or not, but I feel for her daughter either way, since this is not her choice to put her personal business out to the country and the world. As someone who works with teenagers, this must be so difficult for her – her mom doesn’t seem to be very concerned about her daughter’s feelings or privacy.
I am concerned with the sequence of events that occured when Palin began going into labor – that is chilling if true and shows extremely poor judgment on her part – not the type of person qualified to run the USA. I’d like to hear her explain why she went to such lengths to deliver a premature Down’s Syndrome baby so far away from facilities that were clearly the safest and best option for that situation. It definitely appears to be a dangerous and reckless decision and adds to the mystery surrounding Trig’s birth.

September 1, 2008 at 11:48 pm #636815
MagpieParticipantCan any of us imagine being a 17 yr old young woman, pregnant and the whole world finding out and judging you? Then, the prospect of getting married at 17? It makes no sense to me, as a parent, that she would subject her child to this scrutiny. According to the pundits, this is because she is putting the country first and make a difference in the country. Like Campbell Brown just said, this is a presidential election, and there are really no private family matters. Whether we agree with that or not, that’s just the way it is.
September 1, 2008 at 11:50 pm #636816
GenHillOneParticipantI don’t think it’s fair to single out MissK. Lots of news outlets have picked this up, including CNN who had a reporter on the ground in Alaska already when the second story broke (she did a live shot earlier about the rumor, announcement, and “troopergate”).
I’m not sure everything is adding up quite yet either and I’m afraid there will be another shoe to drop. I have a scenario in my head and I hope to god I’m wrong.
Me personally, I would have gone into protective “mama bear” mode a long time ago and that would not include taking my children into the public spotlight. Guess bears are different in Alaska.
September 1, 2008 at 11:53 pm #636817
mellaw6565MemberI agree, GenHill – I would have fiercely protected my cubs and not put my desire to be VP first.
Funny, I also have a scary scenario in my head about what may be forthcoming – wonder if it’s the same? Just a sixth sense……but then again I hate speculation.

WSMomParticipantSeptember 2, 2008 at 12:31 am #636819
bcollinsMemberBecause Palin lacks judgement and is not a proper bear, doesn’t mean her kid should be fair game or mean there is a conspiracy.
September 2, 2008 at 12:32 am #636820
bcollinsMemberDon’t be hate’n
September 2, 2008 at 1:19 am #636821
mellaw6565MemberNo one said anything about a consipiracy or hatin’ – I was actually thinking about the way it would play out.
September 2, 2008 at 1:23 am #636822
GenHillOneParticipant…and I think the point is that it is not fair at all to the daughter (game or otherwise). But if she lacks judgement, then yes, as a VP candidate, that is an issue.
September 2, 2008 at 1:28 am #636823
bcollinsMember“scary scenario”…you are correct. How dare I use the word conspiracy. As far as judgement, that is exactly what should be the topic. But the judgement of the candidate, not the daughter.
September 2, 2008 at 1:35 am #636824
TracyMemberI guess the Republican abstinence only policy didn’t work so well.
September 2, 2008 at 1:38 am #636825
GenHillOneParticipantbcollins, no one is talking about the daughter’s judgement here – ?
September 2, 2008 at 1:39 am #636826
mellaw6565Memberbcollins – who said anything about judgment of the daughter? I think it’s clear from the posts that we are all in favor of protecting her privacy and that her mother shows very poor judgement in failing to do so.
September 2, 2008 at 1:39 am #636827
mellaw6565MemberTracy – the Catholics figured that out a while ago!
September 2, 2008 at 3:06 am #636828
RainyDay1235MemberI feel for the daughter – one day she’s just a teenager with a big problem, the next she’s the ‘Jamie Lynn Spears’ of the GOP. But the good news is now she gets to be married and keep the baby. That should solve everything…*sigh*
September 2, 2008 at 3:16 am #636829
TheHouseMemberYou guys crack me up. I can’t believe that some of you are actually suggesting that Sarah Palin should have bowed out of becoming Vice President of the United States because her teenage daughter decided to have sex and wound up pregnant.
Perhaps you would have preferred for her to quite her job as Governor and run barefoot and pregnant through the towns in Alaska. And you glorify Obama because he sends a press release stating that kids are off limits.
It’s great being a liberal isn’t it. You can move that moral bar anywhere you want to suit your argument.
