JoBParticipantback when i thought my pups could be bribed to obedience, i bought a lot of training treats.
As it turns out, we seldom use them… it’s not that my dogs don’t like treats, but one has a bit of a weight problem and i have found the treats don’t substantially change her willingness to be trained.
I have been cleaning things out preparatory to a move and realized i have a bunch of them stashed.
I want to offer them to someone else for whom treats are more useful…
It will have to be someone who trusts my integrity since some of them have been opened and all packaging can be tampered with… so i thought this was the perfect place to post.
i can be reached at joanne at brayden dot org… if you are interested in relieving me of my stash of training treats.

flowerpetalMemberSometimes I can’t tell if someone on the forum is joking or not BDG. Baby food, really? How do you keep that in your pocket and dispense it?
August 29, 2008 at 11:59 pm #636031
beachdrivegirlParticipantYes Baby food. I thought the same thing to but when we went to our trainer… for the recall word it has to be an extra special treat. our trainer recommended either cheese wiz or baby food. our dog didnt respond to the cheese wiz so we tried the baby food and he looooveed it. I just keep the little tiny jar in my pocket and he licks it right out of the jar. Works like a champ !!

mellaw6565MemberWe use braunschweiger (liverwurst) – works like a charm! And if you’re into showing, they don’t have to chew the liverwurst up and distract the judges – just kind of lick and swallow.
August 30, 2008 at 12:07 am #636033
JoBParticipantyes, i think liverwurst would work for these two:)

beachdrivegirlParticipantThe one thing my trainer brought up that they really liked about the baby food was that it wasnt quite as high protein as the meats and cheeses people typically train their dogs with and therefore is much healtheir for dogs in the long run.

changingtimesMembertalking about trainers which ones do you use? my dog is in major need of obedience school!

beachdrivegirlParticipantSeattle Dog Works they do not use the military dominant type training and are amazing. Our dog did outstanding there and we loved how patient the trainer was with us.

jMemberJeff Tinsley is fantastic. We were referred to him by Next to Nature. We’ve taken our dog through all of his obedience courses offered. Kendra is also a wonderful trainer there. His facility is by the Interbay Golf course between Queen Anne and Magnolia. It’s a great place.

changingtimesMemberthis is great!!! especially the fact that they have the “growl” class!!! my dog is great around people but has an issue against his own kind :)
August 30, 2008 at 3:08 pm #636041
JoBParticipantJeff’s (sound animals) classes are great for basic training and socialization.
the growl class is new.. but limiting it to 6 dogs might work.

jMemberLike I’ve said, we’ve used Jeff for all of his classes. Our dog didn’t really need all the training, but we just really liked him and our dog enjoyed going there. The advanced obedience class was great! It involves basic agility. Cheese was the only treat that would get our dog to jump through the hoop.
The growl class wasn’t around when we went there. One of our classes had a aggressive Australian Shepherd who would growl, nip, and bark constantly. By the third class, Jeff and his staff had the dog playing with all the other dogs.
I would highly recommend him to anyone. I think he also does individual house calls if you don’t want to commit to a class.
