    Well here’s how it went with the visit to my allergist… nothing he can do for me but treat the household dust and mites with Flonase, Zyrtex… but he did point me in the direction of an Occupational Health Doctor and said try and see what he can do for me.
    I’m sad by all of this (no help from work and or Dr.) but will go forward and not let this get me down.

    We found Scott Monroe while searching on WS Blog for “Best realtor in WS”. We more than agree.
    Selling our home with Scott was an amazingly fast process, we had an offer within hours of listing our home,but his efforts went above and beyond the sale.
    Our experience with Scott and his associate broker, Molly Kemper, exceeded our expectations by far. From our first meeting, to staging, to listing, they were reassuring voices over the phone when problems arose and helping hands with all the details too. And though he had nothing to do with said problems Scott was willing to jump in and help work things out by phoning an associate for advice or calling in a favor. Whatever we needed for this deal, Scott made happen to the best of his ability and he and Molly were always there to answer questions and offer advice with our concerns. Admittedly we can be high maintenance clients at times and we were both always received with kindness and patience regardless of the importance of the issue. (Even pillow sham emergencies,for example) :)
    Scott also helped us buy our present home and on both the buy and sell, the expertise he has in real estate was invaluable and we appreciate how he and Molly treated us not just as very valued clients, but as friends. We know this is not a unique experience. It’s how he is and does business. It made a couple of stressful life changes and huge business transactions for us a more pleasant experience.
    We were lucky to have them by our side and happily recommend Scott to anyone inside or outside WS.

    Wonder why we have not heard more on the “JACK BLOCK PARK TRANSIT CENTER” ?

    The Jack Block Park location, just a few blocks north of Spokane Street on Harbor Ave. A perfect choice for West Seattle’s Light Rail Transit Center. But Sound Transit is looking the other way, without respect for the best interest for West Seattle.

    This is the only location in West Seattle where ample acreage is available for parking and a beautiful Community Transit Center for west Seattle Light Rail riders.
    Space for 1500 car garage. Riders could park and ride to downtown locations. As in comparison to Spokane Street where only limited parking would be available.
    Jack Block site would allow the Water Taxi to be moved from existing site to a new Pier at Jack Block Park. This would ease parking problems near Don Armeni boat launch, Seacrest Pier, and Salty’s. There is no parking available for beach walkers presently. Moving the Water Ferry away from the Seacrest Pier would also reduce wave disturbances to Paddle Boarders and Kayaks north of its present location.
    Light Rail from Downtown would cross either under or over the Duwamish Waterway, stopping near Delridge/Chelan and then curve to the northwest to Jack Block Park.
    From there two tunnels, one west to Admiral District, and one southwest to Avalon and West Seattle Junction.

    Why haven’t we not heard more about this location?
    Ask you City Council, or better yet ask the Port of Seattle which owns the parcels.

    West Seattle, Don’t get fooled again with promises of expensive overhead tracks.
    Who would like a monorail blocking your view.

    Not just questionable in terms of business practices, but terrible customer service. But you raise another good point, which is why the difference in cost due to gender? I think this could, and should be challenged in court. A good friend of mine works in a high-end salon, and a man’s haircut can be quite complex. Many women have what could be considered a “man’s” haircut and vice versa. The charge should be based on complexity, not gender. I would speak to the attorney general’s office about the practices at this salon.

    I was wondering if there are any banking types out there that can answer a question;

    I went to one of my banks and submitted a transfer request in the 3 figure range. After about 5 minutes of fumbling around, I hear the cash counting machine start churning out bills. To make sure, I clarified that I wanted a transfer. Not a withdrawal. They said, yes were are doing it.

    I have never heard or seen cash from a till drawn to put from one account to another for a transfer of funds. Is this normal???

    Thanks in advance for your help.

    I was at a WS hair salon recently, where I’ve been a semi-regular patron for several years. The previous time I was there was about three months ago. When I checked out after my haircut, the manager informed me that at my previous visit, they had accidentally charged me for a men’s haircut rather than a women’s cut, and I still owed them $13. She had added it to my current bill and after some hesitation, I paid it, after expressing surprise and the wish that I’d been told this when I made the appointment. (She explained that she hadn’t looked up my account when I made the appointment.)

    But the interaction left a bad taste. I felt that since it was their mistake, they should absorb the cost, or at least have called me immediately after the earlier haircut to let me know, rather than surprising me three months later with a high bill for a simple haircut.

    I would have felt better if the manager had acknowledged that by rights they should simply absorb the (gender-based) cost difference, but asked if I might be willing to cover the difference anyway — and I might well have said yes from a spirit of generosity, but I didn’t like being required to pay it.

    Am I off base? What would be your response?

    Seems like it’s hard to find a restaurant around here (not even just W. Seattle) that makes a good, large piece of chocolate cake!? Want to celebrate son’s birthday and that’s what he really wants.

    The Met is always a good choice but kind of a pain to get to (and kinda pricey!). Any other aficionados mind telling me where they go for chocolate cake? Ballard, Magnolia, Bellevue are not too far to go for this!!!

    1st world problems of course…. :-)

    Hello!

    My name is Becky Horst, and I am the Career Connected Learning Coordinator at Chief Sealth International High School. I am reaching out to our West Seattle community members to begin making connections with local businesses, community leaders, entrepreneurs, and mentors who can work with our students during the school year. There are many forms this can take: mentoring, job shadowing, opening your business to field trips, guest speaking, providing internships, or attending our job fair in the winter.

    We are looking to help our students gain employment and life skills necessary to assist them in their post-high school plans. Seeing those skills outside our school walls makes the biggest impact.

    If you are interested in helping shape the future of youth in our community, please take five minutes to fill out the form below and make sure to put Chief Sealth and Becky Horst as your contact school. You can also email me directly at rlcooper@seattleschools.org if you have other ideas or questions.

    @ miws: “Oh, and the viaduct is mostly gone.” Yeah, I’ve been keeping up on that as I have several friends who work downtown and keep posting photos on the “progress”. It is what it is I guess? I was able to take the tunnel N&S a couple of times before the big move and I was not impressed but to each their own? Maybe I’m just an old fogie but I miss the good ole’ days of a proper 4 lane Viaduct in both directions at 50 mph. Properly re-enforcing it via new structural “arch” supports would have been 1/10th the price and twice the lanes. I’m just ranting now, don’t mind me. lol

    @miws
    : “How are the thunderstorms down there? ;-)”

    WOW! The first two months we were down here there were lightning storms every couple days with torrential downpours for around 2-3 hours. Lately? Nothing but cicadas and bats chirping. ;) I saw what the storm y’all just went through. WOW! Not going to see another one like that for quite a while! (We hope right?) Very cool and very impressive. The storms down here are on par w/ Tampa Bay (Lightning Alley) in that they are very frequent (heat lightning as well as storm lightning, and probably 4 or 5 other kinds I have never heard of) but when they hit, it’s constant flashes and occasionally clear bolts and it only lasts for “maybe” an hour tops and then a wonderful cool breeze descends and it becomes a perfect evening.

    @cardriver
    : “Speaking of cars..what’s the price of gas?”

    Lowest I’ve seen within a couple miles is $2.09, highest is $2.49, average is $2.19 or $2.29 depending on what side of the highway you’re talking about lol. I thought price fluctuations in Seattle were crazy when I first moved down (from Alaska) but wow does this have that beat. Still, FAR lower prices than Seattle but it’s because of a different taxation structure. Not necessarily better or worse, just “different”. I can definitely say their “express” lanes are a joke. Only 1 lane so all it takes is 1 driver going slow to screw over miles of others. Also, there is no “carpooling”, let alone dedicated lanes for it here. Plenty of bicycle lanes! Swing and a miss. lol

    It really is frustrating. I was at Westwood target a week ago. There is a sign “No animals except service dogs” or something to that effect. A customer walked right in with her dog past the security guy. No sign the animal was a service dog. I asked the security guard “the sign on your door says no pets allowed. That lady just walked by you with a pet but you didn’t say anything. Isn’t part of your job to enforce the rules?” He answered something like “Well we sort of enforce that rule but sort of don’t.”

    How are the thunderstorms down there? ;-)

    (We had a *major* one Saturday evening, the longest lasting and loudest than just about anyone can remember!)

    This has been a much cooler Summer for us overall, than the past two, and fewer wildfires as well, so the air quality has been *much* better. I believe I only heard of one or two alerts that might mildly, perhaps to moderately, affect those of us with lung disease, unlike the past two Summers where there were several days that they were recommending that folks with *healthy* lungs avoid going outside, if they could, because the air quality was at dangerous levels.
