SOMERS, CT — A raging fire at an apartment complex on Sokol Road claimed the life of one person early Wednesday morning, according to Somers fire officials.

The blaze was reported by a neighbor across the street at 12:39 a.m., reporting heavy fire showing from a building at the Country Gardens Apartments complex. A person who lived in the unit which caught fire died, fire officials said.

Tenants of the building’s other seven units were displaced, and were being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Investigators were still working at the scene as of 7 a.m. Wednesday. No cause of the blaze has yet been determined.

Hello 2 Much Whine, I get what you are asking, but no, he was not trying to warn me of my headlights being off. He brighted me for an extended period, not a friendly flash. It was clear he was trying to guard the pedestrian, but there was not a need to. Also, he did this as I was slowing down and he kept them on until I was stopped. I was already in the process so it was completely unnecessary.

It’s really not a big deal but it was something unexpected and unnecessary. It confused the pedestrian and myself. Even his hazard lights were pretty unnecessary. I get it, people on 35th think everyone is out to mow down pedestrians, but I’m very much on the side of pedestrians and always try to keep an eye out and stop for them. It would personally never occur to me to try to do what this other driver did, and it made me think it is something he’s done before and will eventually catch someone totally off guard and cause a worse problem. When you see a pedestrian, it is your responsibility to stop and let them cross. That is all that is necessary and the safest thing to do, IMO.

It was just very strange and added confusion and frustration to a situation where there should not have been any.

Did you check to see if your headlights were on? The move that person made is exactly what I would do to make sure you were aware your headlights were off (if they were). Luckily you were not moving so your temporary blindness put nobody at risk.

I did lose my sunglasses over the weekend, but from over on the other side of California, so seems it would be a long shot that you found mine, unless someone picked them up and disposed of them after a bit. They weren’t expensive, but practical/useful. Large, over-sized tortoiseshell color, can be worn over a pair of prescription glasses. Little “windows” on the sides.

As I was driving north on 35th this morning, I saw a car on the opposite side of the road stop in the lane with hazards on. I also saw a pedestrian trying to cross from that side of the road so I started to slow down intending to let the person cross. However, next, the car on the other side of the road started moving again into the center lane at an angle, which caused the pedestrian to get confused and go back to the curb, and also confused me because I had thought the car had stopped to let the person cross.

Next, the driver put his high beams on and it was clear then that he had purposefully moved to angle his car so the high beams would shine directly in my eyes! I was already slowing down with intention to stop, so this was completely unnecessary. Not to mention, dangerous!! That IS NOT an acceptable use of high beams.

To the other driver, if you keep doing that, you are going to eventually cause an accident. Knock it off! All you did was cause confusion and irritation because I was already in the process of stopping. Thankfully myself and the pedestrian figured out what you were doing and they were safely able to cross. However good intentioned, this was not acceptable. It is not YOUR job to force other drivers to stop for pedestrians by using your high beams in that way. Please learn how to drive safely and use your high beams for their intended purpose.

Wow…Thanks! Too bad it’s gone. I went to King County’s iMap Parcel Viewer & set the base map to 2007 & it looks to be already gone. The only map before that was 1936 & it shows a field there before the radio facility. Reminds me of Fort Ward on the south end of Bainbridge Island where there was a secret government radio intercept facility named “Station S” covering the Pacific during WWII in addition to the gun emplacements. They intercepted the messages instructing the Japanese Ambassador to break off negotiations with Washington D.C. right before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I’ve been there a few times. Drivers get away with this crap all the time, which I know from personal experience. I had a similar incident with a driver a week or so ago. Don’t just file a complaint, file a lawsuit. That will at least get their attention. Metro has an ADA complaint process, but I wouldn’t trust anything they do internally. You could also file with the Seattle Office of Civil Rights. I wish there was a better shot of the driver, but he resembles a former weekend 22 driver who constantly behaved this way, especially toward older women. He would deliberately stop either way short or beyond the stop, then berate the person for some nonsensical reason. When it came to young boys, his behavior was the polar opposite – jovial, talkative, and would stop anywhere for them. He may have transferred to the Route 50, but there were multiple complaints – including from other drivers.

bus was number 50 at the bus stop at delridge and anderson bus number 3721 the bus driver pulled 2 bus lengths passed the bus stop to let a passenger off by the time i got from the bus stop to where he was he said i was not at a bus stop so i couldnt board. mind you he stopped 2 bus lengths passed the bus stop. i walk with a cane, was wearing a mask. the bus stop i had to wait for the next bus at where he should have stopped has no seats and due to my disability standing that long was very painful for me. the driver acknowledged me and said i wasnt at the bus stop but he didnt stop at the stop and let another passenger off where he stopped and i wanted to board at. i wear a ada regional pass to show am disabled and not just using cane because i want to but need to. anything else you would like to know, just ask.
i waited for him to make his route complete and caught the video this second time around where second time he didnt open the door for me to board. hes a photo of first denial. which was not quick on the camera the first time. mind you i have never had any words or even talked to or dealt with this driver. so wasnt because of a run in with him. have had others tell me after this incident this driver is very rude to people. i didnt yell or get rude with the driver about this incident. just recorded it.this is twice the same driver refused to let a disabled person on the bus so didnt have to open front door for disabled area seating. A.D.A discrimination by metro drivers at its finest.

My backyard has become an oasis for hummingbirds, finches and new this year- Juncos! While watering a hanging fuschia basket, I found a nest with 4 eggs. I carefully watered around the nest every other day and found babies 4 days ago! I do think the momma built her nest in a lush garden and it would be cruel to let the basket die when the family needs the protection the most. So, I put a bird feeder close by, and use water bulbs to maximize the moisture and minimize the invasion of the bird nursery. Momma and daddy stay close by and my only concern now is that those babies will be fledglings in a few days and the basket is 4 feet off the concrete ground. I worry about the babies getting hurt on their maiden flights. But I can’t move the basket now to ensure a softer landing. Any ideas?

Nor do I sympathize with the enablers who think it’s just mean to confront maskless individuals in supermarkets, etc. If these people truly have underlying illnesses that prevent them from wearing a mask, then they are the last people who should be barefaced out in public. If their condition actually exists (highly doubtful) then they should be in quarantine for their own safety. It should be written into the (unenforced) law that if you can’t (won’t) wear a mask, then you must stay home. It’s well known that covidiots, already low on the IQ scale as noted, are using unsubstantiated medical conditions as an excuse to flaunt their ignorance. Remove the loophole. Or, give them all a maskless island to live on, along with the anti-vaxxers, and let Darwinism run its course. A tanning bed should be all the intervention they need.
