    corrected addys..

    tom.rasmussen@seattle.gov

feel free to correct me publicly when i have made this kind of error..

    HMCRich..

it might surprise you to learn that i am a Christian.

and that i take my faith seriously.

    President Obama is a Christian.

he takes his faith seriously too.

but for both us of it is a primarily private matter.

One does not have to stand in the aisles, claim persecution, vote Republican and bay at the moon to be a Christian.

Freedom of religion is supposed to mean that you are free to pursue the religion of your choice

not that any one religion is free to impose their beliefs on the majority.

Nice one Jan. I like my English Breakfast tea. The working persons tea.

There are some items that I give the President thumbs up. His reduction of COBRA costs for the short term helped a lot of people who became unemployed. And Yes, I do not give him very much credit. I felt Hillary was a much more qualified person than him to run our country. But because of Benghazi, I think it will be harder for her to win.

Am I going further right, or are you going further left? Or am I picking up the slack for others who abandoned the blog. The President’s and his cabinet started the propaganda war on the right. If I attack you, are you going to sit back and take it? I hope not. I want partisanship and division. It should be difficult to pass laws in my opinion.

I admit that I find this President’s policies completely partisan and frightening. I am understanding that his extension of certain Bush policies is strange and also is minimizing our supposed Liberty and Privacy. I want the McCain’s, Graham’s, and Snowe’s from the Republicans ousted. I want Schumer and Pelosi gone. I want people to honor the Constitution and not see it as a limiting document of Executive and Federal Power.

When a Republican becomes President I will agree with more of their policies than a Democrat. But in the future I have to monitor what they will be doing for the us and the country.

Because I see in the distant future Tyranny, I am going to sound more “extremist”.

I hope you have a quick recovery and start to feel better. Take Care.

The Licata encampment legislation would require toilets, qualified management and access to services for no more than a total of 300 people in 3 locations zoned for industry…

none of them would be allowed to be located close to one another and the maximum time limitation would be 1 year.. (6 mo with 1 6 mo extension).

they would be considered transitional housing designed to move people from the streets into services and housing.

At this point, there is no provision for public funding.. they would be privately funded.

Think about the people living in the greenbelts and then think about who else will have no other place to go when Nickelsville closes…

This is not a perfect ordinance but it is one way to prevent mass numbers of people with nowhere to go but our streets this winter…

You can email or phone Council Members. Simply state: “I urge you to support CMs Licata’s & O’Brien’s proposal to have a temporary encampment for homeless people; because, presently, there is no where else for them to go.” Then give your name & phone number.

    (I doubt they’ll call you).

    Church Council Calls Press Conference

Announces Support for Expanded Tent City Options

Friday, June 28, 1:30 p.m., Seattle City Hall Atrium

    Concerned Seattle Congregations Invited

Dear Friends in the Religious Community,

I am writing to invite you to join the Church Council of Greater Seattle in a press conference this coming Friday afternoon to support an ordinance before the Seattle City Council that would expand opportunities for tent encampments that shelter those who are homeless in our community.

In particular, I am writing because Seattle congregations have played a vital role in providing critical—often life-saving—support to those who become homeless, especially through their hosting and supporting of Tent City 3 and Nickelsville.

Through the religious community’s public witness, the City of Seattle passed an ordinance in 2012 that provides outright allowance for religious congregations and institutions to host tent encampments on their properties. The religious community has demonstrated that such well-organized encampments are both needed and can work.

But the need is growing. According to this year’s One Night Count, nearly 9,000 people are homeless in greater Seattle on any given night, almost 3,000 of whom have no shelter at all when our 6,000 available shelter beds are full. Clearly, more sites are needed.

Seattle City Council Member Nick Licata has proposed an ordinance that will allow such encampments on city and privately-owned properties, with reasonable limits on size, location, and management. (A copy of the proposed ordinance is attached.)

Please join us at 1:30 p.m., this coming Friday, June 28, in the atrium at Seattle City Hall (5th Ave. between Cherry and James) where the Church Council of Greater Seattle will declare its public support for Mr. Licata’s ordinance. We will be joined by representatives of Real Change, Seattle’s street paper, and the Defender Association, which provides legal aid to indigent clients in the criminal justice system.

Please spread this invitation to your friends and allies ….

But while we’re at it, let’s keep our eyes on the prize. That being a functional democracy where “we the people” actually means something. Married, civil-unioned, or otherwise. That is rapidly slipping away.

I was promoting a reduction in spending? Not vociferously. And I am not against raising a tax or two if needed. I hate the sequestor. It’s another sign of Congress not doing it’s job…although they will bend over backwards to try and do something about the latest SCOTUS decision, and again fiddle while everything burns around them.

And you, Rich, will never, ever give Pres. Obama credit for anything…you are going farther and farther right every day…how do you like your tea these days?

    Rich..

“the voting decision decided yesterday also advocates states rights over federal rights.”

so.. you are celebrating the state’s right to illegally impair the voting rights of it’s citizens for as long as they can get away with it… yes?

because in effect that is what the voting right’s decision does..

it removes the need for states that have a proven record of violating the voting rights of their citizens…

ie.. they have passed restrictive laws that have been overturned by our judicial system in the past

to clear laws changing their voter process with the DOJ before they are enacted.

I am not sure i would be so proud of upholding a state’s right to cheat it’s citizens… but there you go.. anything for a catching slogan and one more voting victory.

Wakeflood – apparently my tongue-in-cheek didn’t translate well.

My main point was that SCOTUS can accomplish things (good and bad) while our “do nothing” congress continues to posture and bicker amongst themselves.

I am all for reducing deficits. But your article was a bit skewed. It did not mention how much debt and deficit spending had happened since 2008. And even with the numbers there is still a deficit!!

The original article said this also…

The long-term deficit projection is also improved: CBO estimates a 2015 deficit of $378 billion. However, the cumulative effect in the next decade of deficit spending through 2023 is projected to be $6.3 trillion.

Deficit spending is also expected to increase again in the coming decade because of aging Baby Boomers and their related health care costs, as well as growing interest payments on the debt.

JanS, you were promoting the reduction in spending, but many of your colleagues were horrified by the Sequestor (you know the idea Obama had, then trashed it!)

When Democrats and Republicans come to the table and start cutting budgets, departments, and government waste, then I will believe there are real cuts.

This was fluff. Of course deficits are going to go down once in awhile, because the Government cannot sustain this amount of spending.

And, the ACA has not taken effect. They have already misjudged the cost of that program. Sorry but you can believe the propaganda, I don’t.

One more thing. Harry Reid, he has not brought most legislation brought forth by the House for a vote. Do not tell me only Republicans obstruct the process.

Reid, Durbin, Clinton voted for DOMA. Now they praise it. Were they bad people back then?

Hello. As a conservative I find the courts ruling constitutional. These are states rights issues. I never thought DOMA was a good idea.

Unless all state legislatures (or judges in those states) legalize marriage for same sex couples, gay couples will not be recognized in states that have not passed same sex marriage legislation.

There will be many court and legislative battles.

KGDLG understands the ramifications but many of you are slightly misinformed, which makes me believe that some of you are not aware how the government actually works. But you can learn if you want to.

Realize too the voting decision decided yesterday also advocates states rights over federal rights. Sonoma, I disagree with the second part of your statement and I side with the court on that too.

Saw this, and don’t know how anyone could take them seriously. The tactics they use are on par with Westboro Church. I say we doll up some Larouche posters with My Little Pony and protest them. :)

    Dear Two Dogs followers,

An update… We have had to relocate our weather station to the roof of our home to ensure no interruption from shade, trees etc. we apologize for the interruption. All should be well ahead foregoing.

Second, our 2 dogs is now one in spirit. Our beloved Jake, with all of his strength and tenacity, was finally overwhelmed by the cancer the end of February. His passing was peaceful and as he would intend, his body finally decided it had expired as we held his body in our arms.

Sadie continues to be full of sass and has found a 9th life. Encroaching upon 16 yrs. and she does prove to defy the laws of aging.

I know I promised pictures of the amazing pictures the astronomer takes from his telescope; however, as we were caring for Jake’s last days the telescope also became disabled. All is fixed and as soon as the “shorter” days with more dark skies return I intend to share those amazing pictures.

We hope you are all enjoying what has proven thus far to be a lovely and warm spring. Fortuitously, what looks to be a warm summer as well.

All the best to you all and happy star watching this summer!

    Cheers,

    Two Dogs Observatory
