I think the one behind Pho Tai in white center is supposed to be a good one. Always has a line. The previous comments about the Home Depot truck were about it’s excellent food inspection reports and most people liked it. I have had a hit miss experience. First time was later in the day and it was pretty dried out, but I understood. Second time went earlier and it was decent. Convenient and fast. People are really nice too.

I just wanted to give a big shout out and thank you from the bottom of my heart to Bobo Botanical (3435 California Ave across from Swedish Hospital) and its florist and proprietor Anka Bobo.

I just got married on Memorial Day weekend, and everything was absolutely wonderful. It was just as I had imagined it and more. However, the week beforehand that was not the case. I had contacted a local WS vendor to purchase all my flowers in bulk for my wedding, as we have family friends who are florists over on the eastside who were going to be doing all of the arranging. All I needed to do as purchase the flowers I wanted for them to use. So, being the lifelong WS resident that I am, I decided to go with the floral dept at the Metropolitan Market as they always seem to have such a nice array and good selection of flowers. My mom, sister, and I meet with the floral manager and placed an order for bulk flowers to have ready for the Friday before my wedding. We shook hands and I was told I would be getting a call back within the next day with what my bill total would be with what flowers they were able to order (as flowers have been so off this season).

Well, for whatever the reason, the Met Market never got back to me. After a few days of waiting for a call back, I finally phoned the floral dept and played run around for a few hours before I finally spoke with the floral mgr who told me that in fact they would not be able to place and order for my flowers anymore, as they were just far too busy with other orders for actual arrangements for that week to be able to help me anymore.

Honestly, the actual conversation I had wasn’t a very pleasant one, and my shock at the blatant rejection and the rudeness of the mgr and his last minute turndown and dismissal of me was almost more than this bride to be could handle. And no we didn’t sign a contract, nor was there a bill of sale rung up, but I think that a hand shake and a promise of a prompt phone call is just good old-fashioned customer service, even if it was to tell me that there was just no possibility of them filling my order anymore due to unforeseen circumstances. I do think that making me wait out the week to find all that out on my own right before my wedding is just a poor, poor business mentality, and again, very weak customer service. Needless to say, I will not be buying flowers from Met Market anytime soon.

You may wonder where the RAVE part of this post comes into play…well, as noted above, when the Met Market dropped me like a hot potato a week before my wedding, I was a wee frantic for a few moments. I phoned my mom in this panicked state (isn’t that what mom’s are for? Thank god for her!), and she got on the phone immediately to call local WS floral shops to see who could possibly take the order. And here is where Anka Bobo and Bobo Botanical saved the day!

Within an hour of my call to my mom, I was on the phone with Anka and she was taking down my flower order. She spent the following Saturday morning out with her vendors looking for flowers for me and ordering what I wanted and what she thought would accentuate those flowers. She kept in continuous email contact with me, and I was never out of the loop with what she was doing and what she had suggestion-wise for me When the flowers arrived on the Friday before my wedding, she retained and maintained the flowers in her shop’s coolers until Saturday afternoon when my friends were doing the arranging. Anka even took back some poorer looking flowers to her vender that Saturday morning to pick out better looking flowers to make up the difference. She literally spent a whole week, from Saturday to Saturday, helping this crazed, busy bride out, and she wasn’t even doing the arranging of the flowers!

The flowers she picked out for me were absolutely gorgeous, more than I could have imagined. Plus, her price was in my estimation a steal in comparison to the Met Market, or even Costco for that matter! Many guests at the wedding commented on how beautiful the flowers were, and. I still have, a week later now, a bouquet of some of the roses, freesia, and mums on my kitchen table, and they are as vibrant as they were last weekend. That in conjunction with the fact that Anka was so incredibly kind to me, that her attention to detail was impeccable, and her desire to make the week before my wedding that much less stressful was so very appreciated by me. She even sent me an email the day of the wedding to thank me for my patronage of her shop, and to wish me every blessing in my marriage. How frickin’ cool is that!? No other vendor I used did that. Therefore, I would like to RAVE about how cool Bobo Botanical is. If you find yourself needing flowers (or gifts) anytime soon, may I recommend them to you with the highest of regards!

Thanks, JanS! We are so thrilled to be moving back to the PNW. The Midwest was not our thing. In any way. We can’t wait to get there! :)

I’ve also been in the basement of the Key Bank/Super Sup building and there is a huge walk in bank vault down there too.

hmmm..what drives them…good question… for one…ego…gotta have an ego…a big one…to want that job. Love of country would be another, I suppose. I’m sure there are many more reasons, but…not wanting to get anywhere near that myself, I can’t fathom them…

I don’t know how other’s feel, but…I think during this campaign for a Dem nominee, we have all become a little more educated about what it will take to end this so-called war. Their message may have less clout now, but I suppose we have to defend their right to do it. I do not condone accosting anyone to “join” them…we all have a different way of going about things. You may feel exactly as they do, but this country is about choices, and your choice is to not “protest”. Now, if you were getting in their face, that’s not cool either – it’s just gonna rile them up. If you were simply engaging them in conversation, I would hope that they would be able to get into an intelligent conversation, without resorting to name calling and yelling… that does nothing to get their point across.

let them do what they want…that seems to work for them, as long as they’re peaceful, in my book.

I think the hospital was on the SE corner of California and Alaska. The entrance was not on the corner, but on Alaska and the hospital was on the 2nd floor. Guess my memory is better for the past than for what’s there today (which corner is Key Bank?). I graduated in 54 and think it was gone by then.

Bikefir1…I think if you go to the regular Mexican restaurants around town that everyone goes to, i.e., Azteca, Guadalajara, Jalisco, etc, you are going to get watered down, Americanized Mexican food – what they think we want, not what they probably would serve in their homes…and that might be where her criticism comes from.

VBD…I’ve driven by there a couple of times and have wondered. There are a few of these trucks around that people swear by…I’ll have to visit :)

I think it is 72 hours, not 24. But these vehicles are parked for 10-14 days at a time and then sometimes rolled forward one parking space.

    hehehe…good one Gina..

Vinnie….what does political beliefs have to do with this guy parking illegally…yes, illegally. It’s not a parking lot, and the law says to move it within 24 hours..

geez, you’ll go after almost anything to start a flame, won’t you?

and, yes, speaking from personal experience, the ticket comes after the orange sticker…they at least warn you first…

Vincent…I think before you get on JT’s case, you need to change genders and walk in our shoes for a while. I really don’t think a man can relate. If it was you getting in this guys face, it would be a different confrontation entirely. Because we’re talking about West SEattle, and we love it here, and for the most part people are not aggressive, as in the link, one can never be sure. I have a small car, I don’t mess with the big trucks, either…

    just a thought…

JT- I really don’t see the comparison between Webb and Cheney.

Cheney- Chickenhawk w/ 3 deferments. Supports endless use of troops in Iraq/Iran etc… Doesn’t support a GI Bill to offer a college education for troops, but says he supports them.

Webb- served multiple roles defending this country. Sees using war as a last resort, and in defense of our nation. Wants to actually support the troops with benefits like college educations, not just wear a flagpin lapel.

My bottom line on Webb and his synergy w/ the Obama ticket: he was against the war from the start for principled reasons and had better judgement then all those in power at the time, he has served the country in various ways but is a first term senator (experience in Washington doesn’t equal experience/judgement), he passionately and unapolegitically defends his beliefs (one of the most underrated strengths of Obama), and he just won a red state against a campaign that couldn’t be beaten. George Allen was a shoe-in, had a ton of financial backing, and was actually a front-runner for the republican nomination coming up in 2008. He was running in a red-state, he couldn’t lose the senate seat. And he got beat… sound familiar?

Like I said, there are a number of great candidates. I remember back to the campaign message that was so inspired and effective after Super Tuesday, and feel like there is no one else that captures that message of judgement over experience, and change brought on by fresh ideas- ideas that we refuse to apologize for having.

But- I do realize that it might be more likely that a pick designed to appeal to the more moderate Clinton supporters might be the best (only) option at this point. Quite frankly, I’m not the best person to assess who that would be, because I have had trouble figuring out what drives them. I trust the campaign to make the best decision, and continue its pattern of near flawless execution.

I get the solidarity they are shooting for, but personally I feel like there message is less relevant than when they started, even the most anti war experts are in agreement, sadly for all involved, we can’t just walk away now.

Also they seem to be getting pushier and weirder about it. I was accosted for not protesting as well as a representative of the “youth that would shoulder the debt” despite being in my thirties.

Are they still getting a cohesive message across, or is the choir preaching just getting old and weird now?

JT: hit refresh, I think you will find I did give House some flip over his post.

I think your strangers behavior arguement is reactionary and not based in reality. Your best example was from Pittsburgh, you might as well use Beirut a quote from the bible or the iliad. Your neighborhood much like society is the responsibility of its members to shape, if you think that’s someone else’s responsibility your not exactly part of the solution.

Oh and not being a nice person is part of my charm, how boring it would be if everyone agreed all the time.

TVB – your timing is PERFECT. I drove by twice on Friday and wanted to remember to search WSB (there was some taco truck discussion a while back). I’ve never dined from anything on wheels, so I’m simultaneously cautious and afraid I might be missing out on something great!
