I too have many fond memories of the Benbow. Pan fried Quillicene oysters, Prime Rib and the Benbow Burger…mmm.

My brother and I would always beg for change to throw off the bridge over water in the hall way. We would peer into the Spanish Galleon bar while they played the storm…what a COOL place. I bought my first condom in the mens bathroom for a quarter.

It closed once the owner died and rumor is it will be torn down for a new developement.

    Man I miss that place.

Skirt season – always! Just keep it in the knee area with leggings, leg warmers, whatever isn’t going to make me cold looking at you. And NR – girl, if you can wear open-toe heels in this weather I will applaud your efforts. If you can take the cold, you can do it.

We see it all in Seattle.

Duke’s non-standard chowders (there’s one with bourbon and corn, exact name escaping me).

Tomato basil at Easy Street and West 5.

    Miso soup at Azuma Sushi.

Pho at Pho 54 just across the city-limits line on the north edge of White Center (16th/Roxbury). We only got around to trying pho for the first time a couple months ago. Reminiscent of Hawaii’s trademark saimin, only vastly more savory. And the lighter rice noodles are a nice touch.

Haven’t been there for a while (and it’s still for sale) but Angelina’s Trattoria always had excellent chunky minestrone.

The problem is voting. Nothing gets finished if we vote. Two examples are the Viaduct and the last Monorail.

What we need is a West Seattle Sugar Daddy like Paul Allen.

Have you jumped on the S.L.U.T.? (South Lake Union Trolley) I didn’t vote on it (that I am aware of) and it was built.

If you build it, they will ride!!!

PS – Although I have always liked the idea of a monorail going downtown, I have to ask. How are we gonna pay for it? Can we tax the hot air all these local politicians expel? As a home owner i must admit I am a bit wary. My property taxes just keep going up. HMMMMMM.

Instead of turkey on Thanksgiving, I always have crabs and I love them.

The best place to get crabs…in chinatown..cheap at $3.99/lb and they even clean for you.

Please invite me over. Eating crabs as a group is so much fun…forget about table manners…chow down the carcass.

    Fresh crabs ..the best.

I saute them with a little bit of curry powder..that it

    and I love the roe.

    again..invite me over

I have always said that we should have done our Monorail at the same time as Portland did theirs. We could have had federal money to do it with but no our city fathers said Seattle will never need that type of transportation. I would love to go out my door walk two or three blocks and get a ride that would take 10 minutes and no traffic verses walking three blocks (one across a busy four lane road) and then have to wait for a bus that may or may not stop at that stop depending on how full they are and then have to put up with standing or if I am lucky a seat for 20-20 minutes depending on traffic. Ah they joy of a monorail.

Elliot Bay almost always has great soup and chili that changes on a daily basis, and on Fridays they usually have chowder.

My new favorite soup at home is Wolfgang Puck Classic Tomato with Basil. Yum. Add a little Tabasco and some shredded asiago cheese.

I wrestled with the companies web sites for two weeks and could not figure out enough info to make an informed decision. I called and talked to both companies several times without making a choice because I refuse to be sold something by someone who has an even poorer understanding of the product than I.

I finally chose one during the whole house 4 unit free install promotion and got two tv hooked to DVR (one DVR box = 2 tvs, 2 remotes) and 2 more hooked to a regular set top box. (also two tv’s, 2 remotes hooked to one box).

I questioned the installers relentlessly and read the manuals and finally got enough info to configure the wiring plan to work where I needed it to. I now have enough knowledge to redirect the signal anywhere in the house via my pre-existing cable wiring if I need to.

A friend also went to work for direct-tv so I got several of their failed boxes to take apart and “play” with.

Most of my experience in the corporate world was always based on figuring out how to do something complex and then teaching it to execs, sales droids and office serfs. I was reminded of that by seeing a ad here that needed expertise with excel. I would not call myself an expert, but I was always the one handed a process in the form of a box diagram and I had to turn it into an actual work flow using whatever tools and software were available. I know some pretty weird stuff in excel but I suspect there are normal common office functions I have never seen or used.

Mike, that’s too funny! My husband and I are always making fun of those pedigree names that cats have – the ones with 3 or 4 names that sound very pretentious. So we have a joke that we should get a cat and name it Madame Fifi Kibblebuckets. Fortunately, for our current cat (the one in my avatar), we chose a less insane name. :)

Jen, that’s a ridiculous name – people need to think of how a name affects the person with it. I’m glad she could get it changed. I have a close friend whose wife was pregnant with their first daughter, and they spent the whole pregnancy joking that they’d name their daughter Luscious Dupree (which they thought would be the perfect hooker name). They never intented to really name her that (and I’m sure that baby Kate will be grateful when she grows up), but it was definitely funny. I suppose I could use it as another ridiculous cat name. :)

Ah – the full moon is almost upon us. 91% full today. Being a Cancer (and believing in such hooey) I’m always irritable and short with people during this time of the lunar cycle.

Working in customer service – I can tell you that the full moon most DEFINITELY affects people’s moods. Callers are angrier. People are more curt. Coworkers get a bit more short tempered. I saw it all today and we’ll see more of it towards the end of the week (along with snow? I’m staying home!)

Breathe in and then out and then realize it will alllll be over soon. :) Props to your kiddos for being so well behaved. And props to you because we all know where most of the credit for well behaved children is due when it comes to grocery stores :)

Con-cast is always doing these price switch scams. 1st (for me) it was the all in one package deal for $99, now it’s this, and I’m sure they’ll think up something clever after this one has run its course. I haven’t experienced that with DirectTV so far.

i didn’t get the garage cleaned out yet:(

But i have done some closet cleaning and since my closet space was cut 3/4 and my closets were stuffed.. i have a fair amount of clothing to donate.

if anyone wants to make the get together a collection point for this.. please bring gently used clothing with you to the brewery.. we can transfer it to the back of my minivan and i will take it where it needs to go.

i know.. no old lady duds.. but i suspect that black and white t-shirts and most sweaters and jeans and.. are pretty generation neutral and could as easily be worn by a teen as by me.. not to mention jammies and slippers and shoes and….

there is a whole wardrobe i have been holding onto for when i lost weight…

maybe losing the clothing will prompt a weigh shift:)

it’s more likely that walking the dogs more and eating less will work better.. but at least the clothing won’t be hanging around reminding me that i didn’t meet my goals.

and maybe i will get to the garage to dig out those unused sleeping bags and flashlights as well… i can always hope…

if not, i suspect they will be as useful after christmas.

i have been in migraine hell off and on for a few weeks now and find it hard to keep up with the day to day stuff..

but… we are definately coming to the holiday get together whether i have a migraine or not…

it might not be a good idea not to talk politics with me if my eyes look a little unfocused or i am squinting… both signs that i might be just a little cranky… i don’t have much patience when i am cranky :(

This morning I spoke on the phone with my 85 year-old Northern Italian grandmother who lives in Boston. When I told her that last night I was selling bacon from the trunk of my car I wholly expected she’d wonder aloud if I was OK…would ask if I needed money… maybe question why I was squandering an Ivy League education. Instead, I got a warning:

“You’d better be careful,” she said. “I knew a couple of guys back in the old neighborhood who got pinched selling things that ‘fell off’ the back of a truck.”

When I assured her that I was not trafficking in stolen goods and explained the circumstances by which I had acquired the bacon she then proceeded to tell me that I was going about the deliveries all wrong.

Nana: “Didn’t you have a paper route when you were a kid?”

Me: “Um, yes. What does that have to do with this?”

Nana: “You should deliver it that way….early in the morning so the people would have it in time for breakfast.”

I laughed and thanked her for her advice, reminding her that we have a lot of creatures around here who might get to the bacon before the people did. But maybe my Nana is on to something. It would be sort of retro to wake up at 4:45 and ride my bike around West Seattle with a big canvas bag of bacon slung over my shoulder. I’d test my skill at throwing the bacon across the lawn from the street, landing it perfectly on each doormat. And for anyone with a mean dog I’d deliberately throw high so the bacon would impact the front door with a satisfying whack that would wake the whole house.

Yes that Nana is a smart one I tell ya. Always thinking.

We buy a box off of the boat that has 80 pounds of the big kick a** Alaskan King crab legs. I would think that 2 legs per person..he he. Steam for 3 minutes and yummy! Everybody always wants to come to my parents house for their famous “king Crab and prime rib dinner”. The crab legs are large! But, since I’m from a Husky family I would need to double check if I can sell to a Coug.

I would actually head down to Uwajima. I always get my seafood there ranging from clams, oysters and crab. They never disappoint and plus you really get to pick it out for yourself. Try Mutual Fish also, they have great seafood as well!

You will probably have sticker shock anywhere you buy crab unless it is whole and off a boat or a native fisherman.

Restaurants buy it from Cash ‘n Carry but the size might be a bit more than you want.

Then there is always the traditional method…

Thanks Christopher!! Not sure which one I’ll be at, but I’ll get my bacon somewhere.

And if anyone totally flakes on you, I’ll buy some of the leftover bacon! I always hate fronting for stuff and then having people flake out…

I have a friend who is a SAHM that is looking for a child to watch. She is all the things you are looking for. She watched my little girl for several months while I went back to work and I always felt she was in good hands and taken care of. I would be happy to pass along your info. What hours and rate are you looking for?

Christopher..promise to wear a trenchcoat and sunglasses, and deliver out of your trunk? I’m fairly flexible…late morning usually always works for me, some evenings, too. You name the time and place, if I can’t get there, I know where to find you :)

Wow. I’d be really careful with that. All of the research I’ve read has always stated that 4:1 ratio as being closest to what hummingbirds experience in nature. Too much sugar can cause them serious liver and reproductive problems.
