Alway’s a steady stream of off leash dogs on the sand. Why is parks spending time and money developing dog parks when they have the beach? Dog owners aren’t trying to sneak their dogs on they’re quite happy to be open about it. Most all the no dogs on beach signs are gone and the couple that are left are completely ignored.

The Nicklesville stories made a huge impact on me. I was very active on these forums between 2009-2013 and he and I often aligned on West Seattle issues. He always impressed me with his calm but clear articulation, often after I had to simply walk away from my screen if the topic got heated! It was a comfort to me to see miws comments on here all these years later when I’d flit back to see what was going on. I think I met him once at a gathering that I believe Jan S pulled together, but even though we didn’t know each other well, I considering him a kind friend. Cheers to a life well lived. -Monica

Thank you for posting this, I always looked for his miws handle in posts. Mike was a stellar guy and I was honored to have followed his journey out of Nickelsville and help him when he set up his apt in White Center supplying everything he needed to set up his bathroom — it was an honor to have been able to meet him in person. He will surely be missed.

This is a very sad day. Mike was a true gentleman. He always stuck up for the little guy and was always kind and thoughtful in his posts. He didn’t always agree but he never resorted to name-calling or belittling. I had the pleasure of meeting him many years ago and I always found his positive attitude to be infectious. The world has a little less of a spark today. Rest In Peace MIWS (Mike in West Seattle).

Bestie Westie Seattle G-Sale Ever! Today Saturday and Sunday 06/21 – 06/23/2024.

This time I will put items on tarps according to price. This should alleviate any confusion and make it easier to find the items that you’re looking for. Most of the items have not yet been posted or listed on line.

My repeat customers are always saying “You always have the best stuff for sale.” Well it’s because I buy and sell for a living full time for the past 15 years. This year will be even better because 2 of my biggest clients have gone out of business and I have been stocking up for them all winter. Everything is brand name, high quality, shelf ready items for sale. I just don’t have the capacity to sell it all myself.

When I say I have a lot of stuff for sale, I mean a ton. Not just 1 or two of the items I have listed below, but dozens, if not several dozen.

What I have is antiques, collectibles, sports gear, golf bags, clubs, vintage toys and clothing, professional scuba fins, tennis rackets, tents, backpacks and camping equipment. I also have bikes, SUP, stand up paddle board, inflatable rafts and kayaks. There are about 200-300 DVD’s and CDs all in excellent, scratch free condition. Maybe about 30 classic rock albums in excellent condition. I also have a good collection of framed art and antique statues as well as folk art and garden art.

I will be adding more items constantly as soon as something sells, so expect new items hourly. I have 3 other friends helping me and they will have stuff of their own for sale. More photos will be posted soon.

I accept cash, PayPal and Venmo. Look for the yellow sandwich boards.

The sale is happening in the backyard, so just follow the signs. Please no early birds.

    Friday 06/21/2024 9-4 Saturday 06/22/2024 9-4 Sunday TBD

    Address:
7134 32nd Ave SW West Seattle, WA 98126

    See ya soon!

    Thanks,
    Jim

The more you buy the lower the price per item.

My experiences in this intersection counters those expressed above.
As an avid cyclist who lives nearby, I pedal thru this uncontrolled intersection a couple times a week* on my way home. Just as I do dozens of other intersections throughout our wonderful west Seattle. (*~Daytime and nighttime)
Maybe I’m just fortunate to always pass thru when there are no cars speeding by, but my experience (based on decades of pedaling all over west Seattle and the peninsula) is that this intersection is no different than most others.
There are plenty of other intersections that are often much worse, and I avoid as much as possible, mainly those that are within 1 block of highly trafficked areas where vehicle back-ups are common, and people want to scurry around the traffic congestion.
My intention is not to diminish your thoughts, rather to respond to your “Please comment” with my experiences, and with the hope that others also take a minute to share theirs.

Neighbors…once again I’m reaching out as a volunteer on behalf of the West Seattle Clothesline (https://westseattlefoodbank.org/clothesline/). We’ve been seeing a gradual increase in the number of families stopping by and are currently averaging about 20 families/day! Since we want to make sure we have enough offerings to meet the needs of all our clients, please consider donating now! In particular, we are in desperate need of Men’s clothing, especially shirts (all types…dress, polo, tee), pants/shorts, sweatshirts/hoodies/sweaters, and shoes/sneakers. Additionally, we can use a new influx of bedding and towels.

As you consider donating items, please make sure your donations are in good shape (i.e. you would still wear or use…but perhaps don’t fit, have outgrown the style, or just cleaning out your closets)! It would be ideal if your donations were bagged in garbage/plastic bags that can be closed. This helps us keep them clean and dry.
The Clothesline is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10am – 1pm, and it is located at 4425 41st Ave SW, Seattle WA. A large parking lot is available.

Thank you… thank you…thank you. The generosity of our West Seattle neighbors has always reinforced the Food Bank’s motto of Neighbors Helping Neighbors! With gratitude and appreciation, Meade Thayer

To all of you who block public pedestrian sidewalks with your vehicles..please stop! Especially when there is always plenty of street parking around your residence. For the disabled using a wheelchair, walker, or cane, trying to go around your vehicle to get to/from the street and back to the sidewalk can be impossible. It seems selfish to convenience yourself to the detriment of others.

DoorDash recently notified me that they will be raising fees in Seattle because the city is now forcing them (and similar companies) to pay a minimum wage of $26.40 / hour per a new law for gig economy workers.

This sounds like great news to me, as I’m a strong labor supporter, but the way DoorDash talks about it in their announcement makes it sound like they’re complaining about having to pay their drivers more and is taking it out on the consumer. On the other hand, I know these issues aren’t always simple, so I’m curious if anyone in this community who drives for DoorDash or similar companies might be willing to share their opinion?

@CarDriver, that is factually incorrect. While that may be a small factor taken into consideration, you have been provided numerous sources on how engineers and those implementing laws around speed, come to their conclusions. Arbitrary by definition is based on random choice or personal whim, rather than any reason or system. That is far from the case when it comes to setting laws of the roads. You continue to prove my point that education is such an important, if not THE most important piece to correcting what is a continuous problem for those on using the roadways.

Ignorance to proven facts does not make your argument true/factual on its own. Many factors get taken into account but even more-so, it all boils down to safety of those driving, walking, biking etc. How they coexist and what that coexistence looks like surrounding safety.

Study after study after study shows that the faster a vehicle is going has less time to react OR if they are in a collision, they are exponentially more likely to cause harm (depending on who is involved).

You brought up one case and guess what, the kid survived BECAUSE that person was going right around the speed they were supposed to be going in that area. It always cracks me up but is also disturbing when people use a small percentage of cases to prove a point that can be easily countered by the larger percentage reality. One statement above of going with the flow of traffic can be valid BUT also needs more scrutiny because if a majority of people are going 85 in a 25, should everyone be going 85? No. That is not logically sound. Going a little above or a little below is reasonable, but what concerns me are the vast number of people choosing to go well above the limit.

Seriously, go read the above sources of info, especially the one recently provided around how speed affects not only reaction time but also the extent of injury/death. The laws are clear and this city seems to have a lot of sentiment toward your belief that cars can do and should be able to whatever they want, because it’s arbitrary. Again, factually incorrect.

    #1082268

Speed limits have ALWAYS been arbitrary. Many were set using the 85% principle. Cars on a particular road would have their speeds recorded then they would tabulate the speed that 85% were going and that became the speed limit. @ 7 or 8 years ago there was a child hit in a crosswalk going to school in Auburn. He suffered quite a few injuries and was hospitalized (no follow-up so hopefully he’s fully recovered) Got quite a bit of tv coverage. Police pulled the womans computer information from the car. She was going 17mph in the posted 20mph school zone.

Hi, does anyone know if any Junction businesses accept alkaline batteries for recycling? I haven’t checked with True Value yet. I’m mostly looking for a place within the Junction or adjacent, if I can get there on foot or by bus. My old office building in downtown has a drop off, and I can always take them there, but if there are any drop off locations here, that would be ideal. Thank you!

Partially true. However, listening to stories my mom and her siblings talked about growing up very poor in rural Minnesota in the 20’s and 30’s they were very aware that Santa didn’t always show and if he did there wasn’t much he gave. There were bad people, molesters, burglars, mentally ill people and yes, people living “under the bridge” ALL the social ills that exist now existed then. The difference is of course fewer people populating the country then and of course no tv or internet to see all that is seen now.

12/6/23 – I was walking on the Lincoln Park waterfront around 8:30pm and had just passed by Coleman Pool heading SE in the direction of the Fauntleroy Ferry Terminal, when I noticed a completely nude man standing in the rain about 12 feet from me trying to hide from me behind a tree! I actually recognized him as as the bald-headed, short-bearded, mentally ill man who has been recently living under the two different waterfront gazebos at Lincoln Park for the past several weeks. I quickly walked by to get away from him and looked behind me to see him now walking away from me towards Coleman Pool.

I am a bit zdisturbed by this, as Lincoln Park has always been a nice, clean, decent, family-oriented, safe place, and I have been walking through Lincoln Park for years and have never seen anything like this there before.

I decided to phone police and when they met me at the parking lot of the park they asked me if I wanted them to check on him to see if he was OK, and they asked me if he needs any help with anything. They explained that there’s nothing illegal about being naked in public.

Fair enough. On my way back I saw the nude man again, but behaving differently. Now he was walking casually in the middle of the waterfront paved path with no regard for the fact that he was exposing himself, and talking to himself while holding something in his hand. I actually thought about the perspective of the police officer and decided to ask him earnestly if he was OK and if he needed help.

When I did so he immediately turned and started walking aggressively towards me and curled his hand up around whatever he was holding in it! I don’t believe it was a weapon he was holding in his hand, but I believe he did have some sort of drug paraphernalia.

While walking towards me he began to yell ‘Get the f*ck out of here! I’m going to kill you! Call the cops! Get the f*ck out of here! I’m going to kill you! Call the cops!’, over and over and over as I backed away from him as fast as I could! For a few minutes afterwards, I thought I was actually starting to experience a heart attack, due to the abrupt scare, shock and surprise of it all while I walked as fast as I could to the exit at the end of the park.

This is not a prank. This is not an embellishment. This is not a joke. This is real and this is right now in our beautiful west Seattle Lincoln Park.

I backed away as fast as possible and immediately called the police a second time. He kept walking towards me and repeating the same things for another 20 feet or so, and then turned and walked back towards the larger of the two waterfront gazebos, where he’s keeping his belongings and living. As he was walking away I noticed a large jailhouse-type crucifix tattoo on his back.

I chose to meet the police at my home nearby the park, instead of the park to report the incident, due to fear for my own safety. It was the same officers I initially met with at the park. After speaking with them a second time, they told me they would go to the park to speak with the man.

I guess I’m putting this out there as a safety warning to people who like myself and my family, frequent Lincoln Park and it’s waterfront, and who enjoy recreating and walking with their wives, husbands, children, partners, and pets, who want to avoid situations like the one I just went through this evening.

I intend to return to the park, but only during daylight hours and now, always with a walking partner. It’s really sad and unfortunate that this is happening here, but I guess it’s a sign of the times. I wish there was something further that could be done to prevent this from occurring in our beloved Lincoln Park.

    Please be safe!

My wife and I started our journey in early 2023 of selling our house, and moving to a different city to build our retirement house. We began a very thorough research and vetting process to find someone who would be part of our team during this venture. We weren’t looking for someone who would just sell our house, but for someone who would be a partner with us to get our house/property ready to sell to maximize the value; guidance in selecting a moving company for the process of packing and moving our household items; tap into their network to assist with locating a rental property in our new city while our house is being built; and overall guidance and support during a very busy and stressful time. After spending a significant amount of time researching and reading reviews of real estate agents, and talking with friends about their experiences with agents on both the buying and selling of houses, I could see a pattern developing where the name of Scott Monroe kept appearing with 5-star reviews. In addition, in more recent reviews over the past 5 years, Molly Kemper’s name was mentioned in conjunction with Scott’s name so we knew they were a team that was providing exemplary service to their clients. We narrowed down our list to three different real estate agents whom we invited to see our house and meet with them in person to discuss their process in representing a buyer, and see if it would be a good fit for us. We asked a lot of detailed questions, and both Scott and Molly were very professional and thorough in providing us with answers to those questions. After much consideration, and learning more about each of their backgrounds and approaches with selling strategies at Windermere, it became clear that Scotty and Molly were the right partners for us. In addition, they checked the boxes that were important to us: trust, respect, and loyalty.

Over the next three months, we were in constant communication with Scott and Molly. Scott and Molly recommended pre-sale inspections, coordinated these, and were on-site to answer any questions. Also, they consulted with us on improvements to the house that would increase the value, or make it so a potential buyer wouldn’t feel there were projects to undertake. We never felt like they were just getting us to spend more money to make their jobs easier. As with any home sale, the inspector will find items that need addressing, especially in a house that is a mid-century house. Luckily, we only had a few items to address, and with Scott’s background in construction, he came over and fixed the issues himself. Other times Scott came over to lend his expertise as we made a few repairs to the house. Scott and Molly were always just a phone call away to assist us with any items where we needed help. When it came time to stage our house and make it look its best, and to have it professionally photographed, Molly was there every step of the way. The house truly looked better than we expected. Molly really paid attention to all the details which helped maximize the value of the house.

Before our house went “live,” Scott and Molly were very helpful in discussing with us the right asking price to make sure we weren’t leaving money on the table, or too high and missing the market entirely. Once our house was on the market, Scott and Molly were in constant communication with us giving us updates on the open houses, and feedback from potential buyers and their agents. This communication was very helpful in keeping us calm during an anxious time. On the review date, both Scott and Molly were extremely helpful in going through the offers and making recommendations on which offer to accept. The work didn’t stop there, as both Scott and Molly were there to coordinate the necessary steps to close the sale. We were very happy with the entire process of working with Scott and Molly, and would highly recommend anyone who is looking to sell or buy a house to meet with them. They are “good and honest people” and we wouldn’t hesitate to work with them again.
