NR…I wear sandals year round – lol…does that make me an almost native, people? lol…so wear those open toes shoes…

I do have to say, though, that i’m not one of those that wears socks with the sandals in the winter. That’s a true native Seattleite.:)

In Seattle you wear whatever you want, preferably in layers. Unless it’s over 60 degrees, when you should wear shorts and a tank top.

You can wear any shoe you want but I would go for closed toe if you are doing any outside walking as the water from the sidewalks would make your toes get wet.

Skirt season – always! Just keep it in the knee area with leggings, leg warmers, whatever isn’t going to make me cold looking at you. And NR – girl, if you can wear open-toe heels in this weather I will applaud your efforts. If you can take the cold, you can do it.

We see it all in Seattle.

As long as you wear wool socks with the open toed high heels, your feet will stay warm, even when wet.

Gosh, thanks guys. I never could have figured out how to dress according to the weather. I also would lose my mittens if they weren’t attached by strings inside my sleeves – and lord knows I wouldn’t know what bus to get on if it wasn’t pinned it to my jacket.

In Minnesota, you would see teenage girls in high heels, short skirts and tiny little jackets picking their way through the snow mountains pushed to the side of the roads every winter. You can wear anything anywhere.

However.. i would point out that finding yourself on your bottom because the tiny little heels can’t find purchase on Seattle’s hills.. or suffering from gale winds blown up those skirts can easily be avoided with a substantial coat long enough to keep your buns warm and flat boots with good soles.. or at least sensible heels..

it is possible to combine form with function.. even in a skirt.

I’m not to worried about footwear, only muffin tops and whale tails while grocery shopping.

Rule on heels though:

At least be able to walk in them. I was at the junction one time behind a woman who I thought was going to fall over and I must’ve walked a block with my hands extended out anticipating her fall. Even I was exhausted.

Although Seattle is pretty forgiving (anyone else love the Pemco “Sandals and socks guy, you’re one of us” ad?), can we just chalk this up to common sense?

And thanks, Trick, now burned into my head – picture of a woman teetering down the icy street in high strappy sandals, mini skirt with muffin top and whale tale in view, fully believing she’s going to be the hottest chicka in the room.

i have to agree…whale’s tails are really not attractive combined with blue skin and goosebumps… let alone a really raw rash generated by wind and cold chapped skin …

if that’s a whale’s tail.. muffin tops must be even less aesthetically appealing… please don’t enlighten me…

i find i have to commend your gentlemanly instincts … the image of you following some hapless woman tottering down the street on her heels is priceless… in spite of my women’s lib reluctance to commend any man for thinking a woman doesn’t have sense enough to take care of herself ;~>

I’m so glad I never got one. I’ll end up covered in tattoos head to toe with everything but my lower back covered. I refuse to go there. This from someone with a tattooed chest who is dreading the day that “the girls” travel south for the winter.
