Unfortunately I see no asterisks on my meter reads for the bills, so I assume this is accurate. And when I start to do the math about consuming 440 gallons of water per day, it just boggles the mind.

We find this statistic appalling, and since 1999 we have been doing our part to provide struggling students with the critical reading skills they need in order to reach their full potential.

Posting an update from funkietoo, who is unable to Log-in here:

Hi everyone, just a quick up date on tomorrow’s lunch.

West Seattle Christian Church has been thoughtful and generous enough to let us use their Community Center kitchen tomorrow morning. If you would like to bring food and/or help prep, we will be there by 11 am and leaving at 11:45 am for the meal site. Their address is: 4400 42nd Ave SW. (Mike, attached is a photo of the building–are you able to paste it into the WSB post?)

    Our menu currently consists of:

Turkey Salad sandwiches (or can be eaten as a salad w/o bread)

    Green bean casserole

    Big tray of dressing

    Tray of sweet potatoes

    Pumpkin cheesecake cupcakes

    Two pumpkin pies

We will be serving about 15 people tomorrow. Thanks to everyone that is participating so far and to those that we may see tomorrow.

    Cheers, All of us.

Couldn’t figure how to post funkietoo’s pic here, so here is a link to Google Maps, for the address:http://tinyurl.com/py5pzn5

The Street View image there looks different than what funkietoo e-mailed me. Perhaps hers was a side view?

    Thanksgiving

I have been trying to read

the script cut in these hills—

a language carved in the shimmer of stubble

and the solid lines of soil, spoken

in the thud of apples falling

and the rasp of corn stalks finally bare.

The pheasants shout it with a rusty creak

as they gather in the fallen grain,

    the blackbirds sing it

    over their shoulders in parting,

and gold leaf illuminates the manuscript

where it is written in the trees.

    Transcribed onto my human tongue

I believe it might sound like a lullaby,

or the simplest grace at table.

    Across the gathering stillness

simply this: “For all that we have received,

dear God, make us truly grateful.”

    (a) Yet another reason I don’t think news publications should include opinion, but whatever. We best remember this writer for declaring Super Deli Mart to be in White Center. (Amended, for this archived version, to “near” White Center. Still not accurate. It’s actually Fauntleroy, on that side of the street. http://seattletimes.com/html/foodwine/2014571435_happymart23.html Yes, we know, WS neighborhood boundaries are quirky. But there’s this weird thing where regional media sometimes declares anything south of Thistle to be WC …)

    (b) Beer Junction, which I believe was mentioned (I am not following the link again), is actually open fairly late. Hours (including Wed night, Txgiving Eve, until midnight, I see here …) http://www.thebeerjunction.com/#!hours/ce44

    (c) Shop Late Thursdays, until 9 pm, in December. Yes, I don’t get the early hours either (being someone who would prefer to shop around midnight or so), but perhaps things will evolve. Keep making your preferences known to shopkeepers – if you don’t want to tell them in person, you should have online options such as FB messages.
