I was out walking my dogs and saw a guy going through mailboxes. He was quite blatant about it too. I saw him on the west side of 37th and Hinds. He did this all the way down to Admiral and then came back down 37th on the east side. I called the police twice and saw them looking for him but by the time I had to go home, they hadn’t picked him up yet. This occurred between 9:30am and 11am.

I also noticed when we were at Admiral that they mail carrier was on 37th and Admiral on the north side of Admiral. I wouldn’t doubt it if he crossed over there soon as the mail hasn’t been delivered in the areas he is going through now.

Thanks for the post SJoy. Always curious when I see the “suspicious person

    in the SPD tweets.

    thanks for the alert

any chance this person was putting something inside the mailboxes, like flyers? many people are not aware that is illegal

    ~

it would be very odd for someone to steal mail so openly, on foot, for blocks, don’t ya think?

and mail in this area never gets delivered in the morning

    ~

since I live in this area, certainly hoping it’s not a blatant mail thief

Mail thieves will often carry some sort of flyers with them so that if ‘caught’ they can just say they were putting flyers in boxes…this is another great reason for neighbors(well-intentioned) to stop leaving notes in each others boxes…it desensitizes the neighborhood so they can’t tell when something is amiss!!

Well … the Pigeon Point Neighborhood Association/Council flat-out doesn’t believe me that the flyers they put in boxes is an illegal activity, yet they wave loud and often about mail theft in the area. If someone they respect and not a lowly resident such as myself would tell them this, it might go a ways to help here. (And yes, I’ve taken this to 4 members of the “management” only to be ridiculed.)

I am absolutely certain this guy was going through mailboxes to steal mail. He did not have any flyers either. He just opened mailboxes and then closed them. At one point, a woman and her child came out to play, he was across the street and he acted like he was doing something with the mailbox to conceal what he was really doing, but it was still obvious. I thought it was a little odd at first too because it was early and I know the mail hadn’t been delivered but I saw him many times, and actually followed him for a long time.
