admiralmom, I’m a vegetarian who is mostly vegan. I don’t know of any meetups currently in existence for WS vegans/vegetarians, but we could certainly start one! I love chatting about plant-based diets and my own experience with it, especially how I was able to control my diabetes with a vegan diet with no medication and eating far more carbs than the average diabetic.
Luna Park Cafe has a vegan burger (Field Roast), but don’t know if the roll is, or if they cook it in the same oil as meat, etc. (One of the reasons I’m “mostly vegan” is that I don’t worry about those details.) So you’d have to ask about that.
Elliott Bay has a pan seared tofu sandwich that I love. And they have a vegan burger as well as a hummus plate. They are very accommodating in letting you know what’s in stuff.
Meanders has one vegan item on the menu (the punk house hash) if you specify vegan and they’ll leave off the eggs, cheese and sour cream. However, as the grill is small, it may be cooked next to meats, so depending on your level of comfort with that, some people might not consider it truly vegan.
You mention Chaco Canyon – that’s a really easy place, as everything in there is vegan (unless you order regular cow’s milk in a drink – it’s the only non-vegan thing on their menu).
Not West Seattle, but when I get up there, I love Wild Prairie Bakery in Ballard (used to be Bouteloua Bakery) which is entirely vegan, and they also have a lot of gluten free stuff.
I have yet to get there, but Georgetown Liquor Company has a totally vegetarian menu and much of it can be ordered vegan.
UDistrict – corner of 55th and University Way – there is vegan grocery store (Sidecar for Pigs Peace), a vegan pizzeria (Pizza Pi) and vegan cafe (Wayward Cafe).
Full Tilt Ice cream in White Center has 4 different vegan ice creams/sorbets available.
Trader Joe’s actually has a printed sheet of all their vegan offerings.
