hooper- I’m waiting to see how things shake out in Chile before forming an opinion on privatizing SS here in the U.S. From what my contacts down there say, so far it’s been a mixed bag.
In a nutshell, you can choose a public or private option. But what’s been happening is that some of the people who opted to go private ended up destitute and getting state assistance anyway. (I haven’t researched this in a while, just relaying what some guys told me when I was there earlier this year.)
