About the emergency response on Myers Way

IMG_5214

Thanks for the text about the police/fire response along Myers Way south of 1st (map). We just talked to police at the scene – right after SFD left – and here’s what they told us: They got a report of shots fired somewhere on the slope east of the road. They have searched – and Guardian One was out here searching too – but cannot find a victim; they’ve been talking to a person who claims to have seen someone with a gunshot wound, but he is described as seeming to be under the influence of something.

Oh great a homeless person high on whatever costing the city all this money for seeing someone maybe with a gunshot wound…maybe George Scarola can go help him out?

It was like a war zone here for awhile.  About 7 Police and Sheriff cars, one paddy wagon and Guardian One circling above, what a scene! and nobody was caught. Now we have the 2nd Chance Homeless camp, a new set of RV’s and more homeless people moving into the Myers way woods.  —- What a life!

Perhaps we could send some doctors and nurses into the Myers Way South jungle to supervise the drug addicts getting high. Cheaper than renting an apartment downtown for them to use in.

That corner is down the street a ways from the camp. Many incidents and accidents have happened at the that corner over the years. Don’t assume it has anything to do with the new residents. Show me proof, until then, quit blaming the camp as an easy excuse.

I thought we were pretty clear about the location in the report. But if not, yes, it was NOT anywhere near Camp Second Chance, which is down the road on the west side, past JTF. This was on the east side, before JTF, down the slope (to put it further off the road), and again, we don’t know that anything actually did happen except for a *report* of possible gunfire and the guy who claimed he saw a victim. No medical calls to the area since then…

Harbinger- Sounds like you have a great life and living situation. Must be nice.

Harbinger (and anyone else)… It’s called a police van, NOT a paddy wagon. This is 2016 and they don’t pick up ‘drunk paddys’ anymore. Culturally insensitive term to use. Can’t do that to other ethnics, not the Irish either!

+1 KD, it is AMAZING to me that such culturally insensitive terms are still used, by such “progressive” people.

this makes me fear for some of the people i know to be living on that hill..
i really don’t understand why it’s so easy for some of you to write people off and label them substance abusers simply because they don’t have a home.
the percentage of those on our streets who are working their way through social security disability filings is incredibly high.. and these aren’t people filing for a bad back or “psychological” issues…

and the real kicker.. unless they have a real substance abuse problem they pretty much don’t qualify for housing.

@ 935;  I know, and I acknowledge that all our Black, Brown, Red and Yellow (?) {I’ve oftener wondered if Asian folks are bothers by that}  Brothers and Sisters have more important recognition in bad names and stereotypes, and Black Lives DO Matter… all higher urgency, but it still makes

.. still makes my blood boil. Maybe Tracy can out in her professional 2 cents worth from working at different stations and markets, but I cannot BELIEVE that the local TV and Newspapers still say ‘paddy wagon!’  they wouldn’t dare say insensitive tags of people of color. Lawsuits! No matter how many times I’ve called and editors always apologize.. they keep saying it!!

Actually, this has been discussed here on the WSB and while there is dispute, it’s commonly known as paddy wagon due to the cops being (overwhelmingly) Irish, not the wagon occupants.  I never heard the latter definition until I read it here.

It was a false call . Period . There was no victim, no shooter . Get over it . No one was hurt . The police did thier job . Who ever made the bloody call should be thrown in jail that’s for sure .

Sorry, comment time is over.
