Search is over, says FBI

New update on the P-I site — officers looking for the U.S. Bank robber are no longer searching neighborhood-by-neighborhood.

Hot cup o’ turnover

We had seen the “for sale” signs at the “Koze” store/house next door but didn’t realize till an e-mail tip that Carosello Coffee (the location’s latest incarnation) on 35th is for sale too. Interesting caveat in the listing fine print forwarded by our tipster (or is this par for the course with business listings?) — “DO NOT DISCUSS SALE WITH EMPLOYEES!”

Pictures of police search

UPDATE: West Seattle Mag has some on-the-ground shots of the police search. KING5 has video on their web site showing the K-9 unit’s part in the chase and KIRO-TV has added some new shots to the slideshow mentioned here.
KIRO TV has a slide show of the police search here. Reportedly the robber is now believed to have gotten away.

Police surround WS house

UPDATE: The Seattle Times is reporting that supposedly the tellers at the US Bank at 4200 SW Edmunds received a note demanding cash at 12:30 this afternoon. The story also says, “the suspect is ‘hunkered down’ in the area around Southwest Brandon Street and 46th Avenue Southwest.”
King5 TV is reporting this on its web site.

West Seattle bank robbery – Seattle Police have surrounded a home in the 4600 block of SW Brandon Street in West Seattle where they believe a bank robber is holed up. More details to come.

Fish frenzy

The annual Copper River salmon hoopla started today. Looks like Metropolitan Market joins the fun later this week. Here at WSB HQ, we “celebrated” with Copper River on the cheap.

Another reason to be glad you live in West Seattle

You don’t have to drive 22 miles — like these Issaquah elementary-school kids spotted on a field trip this morning — for a low-tide walk at Constellation Park (p.s. looks like it’ll be even lower about this time tomorrow morning):

Persistent patrollers

This article finally explains the wild sight some saw on WS streets at midday last Saturday. The officers’ persistence reminds us of the bank robber/signholder caper.

Steller_s_jay_copy.jpgIf you haven’t checked in with the West Seattle Birdcam for a while, you have missed a lot. We are purple with envy over their wonderful sightings, but glad they’re posting and sharing pix. Note the difference between the Birdcam blog and the actual Birdcam live feed.

More details about remembrances for John the waiter

Less than a week since this whole sad thing happened. But two more things to note: #1, the location of Saturday’s service has been clarified, as Burien Free Methodist Church; #2, one of the anticipated fundraisers for his family is detailed here (update: this is an unofficial individual gesture by that performer and doesn’t necessarily apply to anyone else on the bill that night).
