Let’s Support Ounces Taproom & Beer Garden!
Thursday 7/29, 7 – 9 PM

My name is Becky and I am the founder and CEO of an awesome social meetup group called The Seattle Thaw: Making Friends Despite the Freeze – https://www.instagram.com/seattlethawofficial

Besides creating space and an environment for networking and making friends my goal has always been to support local small businesses. I myself am a Washington native and love all the small businesses and hosting events to bring them business and allow people to gather IS the main goal.

We have an event coming up at Ounces Taproom & Beer Garden. Because we count the RSVP’s and I myself am a small business we still use meetup for tracking and also for security. Please join Seattle It Up (a secure way to sign up for Seattle Thaw Events) on Meetup:

Early morning F3 men’s workout group at Hiawatha
Sep 3 @ 5:30 am

F3, a free national men’s workout group:

We have a local workout location that meets at Hiawatha park on Tuesday mornings at 5:30 am sharp. The group has been around for a few years, so many folks that are up early might have come across us before doing burpees or pushups and counting out loud. We’d love to extend the invite to men of any fitness level – we work out as a group and don’t leave anyone behind, come as you are and hopefully leave a bit better.

The workout is 45 minutes long and then we all get coffee at West Seattle Grounds. You don’t need to bring anything special, just wear comfortable athletic clothes appropriate for the weather and some sneakers. Some work or gardening gloves can be helpful if you have a pair. Just don’t be late or the whole group is doing penalty burpees.

Boeing Field Part 150 study open house @ KCIA Flight Service Station
Sep 4 @ 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

King County International Airport-Boeing Field (KCIA) invites community members to attend an open house on Sept. 4 to learn about the Part 150 Study purpose and process. The Part 150 Study is a voluntary Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) process that identifies the level of aircraft noise in an airport vicinity and identifies potential measures to reduce the effects of noise on surrounding neighborhoods.

The open house will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 4 at the KCIA Flight Service Station, 6526 Ellis Ave. S. in Seattle. Free parking is available in the building’s parking lot and on nearby streets. A King County Metro bus stop at Ellis Avenue South and South Warsaw Street, across from the KCIA Flight Service Station, serves the 124 and 60 lines.

Community members can stop by any time between 6 and 7:30 p.m. to meet and talk with the project team and share their feedback. No registration is necessary, and there will be no formal presentation. Language interpretation will be available in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Khmer, Vietnamese, and Tagalog. For those unable to make this event, the study team will host additional open houses and engagement opportunities throughout the study, which will continue through 2026.

KCIA is undertaking two important studies to plan for the future of the airport: the Vision 2045 Airport Plan and the Part 150 Study. King County owns and operates KCIA, a public-use airport. Both the county and the FAA have authority over different parts of the airport’s operations, management, and future development.

“Public input is critical to the successful outcome of Vision 2045 and the Part 150 Study,” said John Parrott, KCIA airport director. “We invite the community to join us Sept. 4 to learn more about the Part 150 Study and talk to us about airport noise. Both technical information and community input will inform the process as we move through this study and identify measures to reduce noise.”

The Part 150 Study will be completed according to FAA guidance and will inform aspects of the Vision 2045 Airport Plan. The Part 150 Study will include the following:

-Study existing and future flight corridors.
-Develop aircraft noise exposure maps for current and future flight conditions.
-Evaluate air traffic control procedures that could reduce noise exposure over residential areas.
-Consider land use controls that the cities of Seattle and Tukwila, and King County, could introduce to reduce future incompatible land uses (such as residences, schools, and churches) from being developed within high noise exposure areas.
-Evaluate ways to reduce noise impacts within high noise exposure areas.

To learn more or provide input online, visit the project website at KCIAPlanning.com.

An internationally known and award-winning picker, singer/songwriter and teacher, the Midwest native relocated from Denver to the vibrant Portland, Oregon music scene in 2004. Mary Flower continues to please crowds and critics at folk festivals, teaching seminars and concert stages domestically and abroad, that include Merlefest, Kerrville, King Biscuit, Prairie Home Companion and the Vancouver Folk Festival, among many.

A finalist in 2000 and 2002 at the National Finger Picking Guitar Championship, a nominee in 2008, 2012 and 2016 for a Blues Foundation Blues Music Award, and many times a Cascade Blues Assn. Muddy Award winner, Flower embodies a luscious and lusty mix of rootsy, acoustic-blues guitar and vocal styles that span a number of idioms – from Piedmont to the Mississippi Delta, with stops in ragtime, swing, folk and hot jazz.

Flower’s 11 recordings, including her four for Memphis’ famed Yellow Dog Records — Bywater Dance, Instrumental Breakdown, Bridges and Misery Loves Company — show a deep command of and love for folk and blues string music. For Flower, it’s never about re-creation. Her dedication to the art form is a vital contribution to America’s music.

Steve Hulsman Memorial Ride @ Lincoln Park
Sep 7 @ 9:00 am

Please join us on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 9:00 am for a memorial ride to celebrate the life of Steve Hulsman, the long-time Cascade member and volunteer Ride Leader who was tragically hit and killed while biking in West Seattle in December.

We will gather at 9 a.m. in the main parking lot at Lincoln Park in West Seattle, where Steve’s family and close friends will speak about his life and love of bicycling. We will also hear from elected officials about the need for continued investment in protected bike lanes and active transportation infrastructure to improve safety for people biking and walking. Before departing by bike, we will raise a toast to Steve (coffee, Nuun, and orange juice will be provided). The ride is expected to start at about 10 a.m. following a safety briefing from Cascade Ride Leaders. All riders must wear a helmet and attend the safety briefing to participate.

*Note: We are offering three separate routes for this ride: an “easy” route out to the West Seattle Passenger Ferry Terminal and back along relatively flat roads and trails (14.1 miles/ 423 ft of elevation gain), and hillier option that is an “intermediate to difficult” route (25 miles/ 2,473 ft of elevation gain) and a “very difficult” route that should only be attempted by experienced cyclists (42.7 miles/ 4,518 ft elevation gain).

These routes are self paced in nature, meaning that you can ride them at your own pace, by yourself, or with friends. We will have organized group rides led by ride leader volunteers offered at most paces for those that prefer to ride in a group. You are welcome to choose if you would prefer to ride by yourself or join one of the organized rides. Regardless of which route you choose to ride, we will all be starting from the same starting point. The routes for all three ride options are linked at the bottom of this ride description. We encourage you to download your preferred route to your phone or GPS device prior to the ride.

We will climb and descend hills at our own pace. We’ll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH, occasionally 10 MPH).

Restrooms are available at the start. There are also restrooms at the turnaround point adjacent to Seacrest park at the West Seattle Passenger Ferry Terminal dock for riders riding the easier route.

Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group. Helmets are required.

Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is canceled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.

We hope you can join us!

Big Blue Truck in West Seattle @ WaFd Bank lot
Sep 8 @ 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Big Blue Truck, a division of Seattle nonprofit
Northwest Center, is excited to announce the opening of a new donation site in West
Seattle. Beginning Saturday, August 3, 2024, community members can donate gently
used clothing, textiles, and small household goods at WaFd, 4102 California Ave SW,
98116.

The donation site will be open every Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
“We are thrilled to return to West Seattle! The Big Blue Truck was a popular donation site
in the heart of West Seattle until Covid forced its closure in 2020. Now West Seattleites
once again have a convenient weekend drop-off location just steps from the heart of
Alaska Junction,” said Michael Scalzo, SVP of Operations at Big Blue Truck. “We are
passionate about collecting our community’s gently used clothing items to support
children and adults with disabilities. We believe being back in West Seattle will have
both a sustainable and mission-led impact on the community for generations to come.
A big thank you to our partners WaFd, Value Village, and PrintItForward.net for being
instrumental in our return to West Seattle!” said Tess Connor, Chief Growth &
Operating Officer at Northwest Center.

Donations made to Big Blue Truck support Northwest Center’s education and
employment programs for children and adults with disabilities. By donating, residents
not only help children and adults with disabilities but also promote environmental
sustainability through recycling and reusing goods.

Big Blue Truck welcomes donations of:

 Gently used clothing
 Shoes
 Books
 Textiles- including towels and sheets
 Small household items
