dervishParticipantLiving only two blocks from SFD Station #11, I’m used to seeing fire trucks a lot, and of course hearing them when they are dispatched.
However today they are out far more than normal. Engines have been coming down 17th Ave all day, over and over and over.
Does anyone know whats up? I wondered if perhaps new firefighters were training driving on narrow streets, as I’ve seen them pulled over several times infront of houses, but there are no oncoming cars that they need to make way for. Then they pull out again.
That seems odd however, and I guess I would have thought that new drivers would get training on test ranges, or wherever the rest of their training happens. Anyway… just curious if anyone knows why they go around and around. :)

dervishParticipantI should specify, there are no lights or sirens. They were clearly not being dispatched anywhere, just… driving.
Two would go by, 20 minutes, another one, 10 minutes, another one, 30 minutes, 2 more. I should have checked the numbers to see how many different ones it was, since there is only one Engine and one Ladder at #11. afaik.

WSBKeymasterHi. First, if you don’t know this already, when you hear or see a fire crew head out on an emergency, you can check here and see where they’re going. It’s not very specific – but the lion’s share of calls are aid response, medic response, automatic fire alarms, ones we don’t check out unless we have reason to believe (usually because someone contacts us, 206-293-6302 text or voice) to report something seemingly big:

None of today’s incidents has been in the category of major – “fire in building” or “fire in single family residence” or “heavy rescue.”
If they are just driving around – they might be going on an inspection run, on a lunch run, to a scheduled appearance … Since we are out and about a fair amount, we see the fire trucks often, and not always lights/sirens.

d47m122MemberThey are going round and round where I live too. It’s starting to get a little annoying. They block the road and turn right in front of our house about every 20-40 minutes all day on the weekends. I assume it’s because they are practicing but would be nice if they share the love on some other streets. :)
