celeste17ParticipantJan I wish you all the best in your surgery and recovery. I will make you one of my Key Lime pies for your recovery. Just let me know when you are up for visits. I will bring lots of whip cream for the pie. Anyone want to bring lime Margarita’s? :)

missaudreyhorneParticipantJust want to be clear, if you were planning on dropping anything off today for any reason at my place I will not be home until after 6:30 pm. This is likely the same scenario for tomorrow evening and Friday.

GinaParticipantHappy Healing, Jan!

charlabobParticipantJan, we miss you! I’m hoping the laptop broke and you’re not just too tired to type. Or maybe you’re reading and winding up in the bucket o’ spam with the rest of us. OTOH, if you’re too drugged to type, why that’s just fine, isn’t it?

JanSParticipantwell, geez,I had a whole long paragraph written, and poof, it went away. I’ll make it short…I’m off the morphine, now on oxycodone/tylenol…less loopy. I’ve had a constant hot flash since after the surgery…they say it’s my body metabolizing the anesthesia – annoying, to say the least. It’s not too terribly painful…just in the muscles in the frony of the thigh…quadricep muscles…they were torqued around pretty good.
The food is delish…room service on demand..tonite I’ll repeat what I had Tuesday evening…grilled salmon fillet in a warm cranberry vinaigrette sauce, broccoli, jaasmine, small salad, iced tea…and for dessert…angle food cake with fresh berries…yummmmmm…
Hopefully, I will be going home on Friday…that’s the plan so far..not exactly easy finding a ride when the time is up in the air…
that’s about it..nurses are really nice,competant..no cute orderlies :(
and…the sun is shining…it’s gotta be a good day :)

JanSParticipanthey, all, it’s official…I come home today..yay!I’m doing well..I can walk with a walker, almost no pain, and I can navigate up and down stairs with just a cane. This has been way easier than the last time 3 years ago.
And I am soooo glad I don’t have to spend another night here, although the nurses, OT’s, and PT’s have been wonderful.
So…I will be open for visitors…juast remember that it takes me a bit of time to answer the door :)
Thank you all for your generosity and yojur good thoujghts…most definitely needed and appreciated :)

AnonymousInactiveJanS – I’m so glad to hear that it went so well!!!
It must be nice to be able to go home and it sounds like your mobility is great!
All great news!

charlabobParticipantWelcome back to the neighborhood, kid — we’ll see you this weekend…keep the laptop as long as you need, but it sounds like you’re ready to operate other heavy machinery too and I, apparently, need my email archives :-)
Don’t break a leg… c and b

charlabobParticipantJ, J, and tall guy, we’re counting on you-all as an excuse for at least one trip for takeout Zippy’s next week. Not that we (apparently) need excuses. Rejumpstart Atkins with a week of bacon cheeseburgers, hold the bread and vegetables. :-)
May 16, 2008 at 7:51 pm #624304
rs261MemberJust something to keep in mind charla, Atkins dieting has the potential to do damage to your kidneys (as you might well know). Ketosis (caused by low carb diets), is potentially life threatning. So be careful when eating all your burgers and bacon! (not saying dont do it, just be aware of any potential problem signs)
May 16, 2008 at 8:00 pm #624305
charlabobParticipantRS, thanks for saying it! We actually do know (and haven’t ever done it for long). It’s a great jump-start (for me). I’m not a very patient person — going from tight to baggy jeans in 10 days is a great motivator!
My downfall is the carbs — I can resist trays of chocolate, but give me a loaf of bread and watch out for your fingers :-)
Last time we did it for a couple months and then continued to “healthy eating” which, of course, lapsed. We didn’t gain — just plateaued. One major positive side effect: I develop a craving for fruit and vegetables .. after the strict 10 days, I can’t get enough oranges, apples, chinese vegetables, yeah, even lettuce.
Again, thank you!

AimParticipantCharla, will you email me privately? I am curious about the whole atkins thing as a way to do a cleanout of sorts.
May 16, 2008 at 11:21 pm #624307
JenVMembercharla and aim- when I did atkins a few years back, I did a “modified atkins” – I didn’t eat bacon and mayo- because I don’t eat those things regularly. I ate a lot of chicken breasts, turkey lunchmeat, string cheese, eggs, pickels and spinach, etc. Just no bread *sob* …The thing that kills me about atkins is no tomatoes. A day w/out tomatoes is just not worth it for me!

JanSParticipanthehehe….a day without sleep gets to me…have had a few of them lately…I’m exhausted, but I’m home…and daughter is providing food tonite. Can’t ask for better than that.
Yes, Charla, I’m able to sit at my PC, so the laptop is yours again…anytime you want it..and I didn’t break it !:)
Oh, and I get to shower tonite…breath is like the gorilla cage at the central park zoo…body resembles the scent in the monkey house…so wait to visit, okey dokey?
ok…back to my chair :)

celeste17ParticipantHey Jan, welcome home. Glad you are feeling better. I started working again yesterday so things are looking up here at the house. I just wanted to let you know that the offer of your very own key lime pie stands and I can do one and have it in your hands in 24 hours. It needs to sit for at least 8 hours for it to be really good. I will try to swing by Tony’s on 35th to get some limes this weekend. Just email me with your addy and I will bring it bye. If you need anything else let me know.
