The Velvet BulldogParticipantLast night (Weds, May 13) my car was hit by a drunk driver while I was waiting at the light at Fauntleroy and California. I want to say thank you to the witnesses–especially the woman who went after the driver and got his license plate number and a description!! Also those who stuck around and gave their names and numbers. Thanks too to the folks at Zeek’s who let me hang out in the restaurant and wait for a tow truck even though they were closed. And to the officers from our SW Precinct who were great. My poor car is probably totaled and now I have to figure out how I’m going to get to and from Lynnwood to attend school. I’ve never had this happen before–if they catch the jacka$$ who did this, does his insurance buy me a new car?

miwsParticipantYeah, geeze, hope you’re okay.
If they catch this moron, and *if* he has insurance, definitely hold their feet to the fire, and make sure they buy you a new car. (Or have your ins. co. do the feet holding.)
Either way, no matter which ins. co. handles it, make sure that if your car can be repaired, it can be done so properly, so the car is safe, and handles properly, no leaks around doors, window, etc. Don’t let them get by on the cheap.
If the car can be properly repaired, and you really love the car, then that’s cool too.
As far as getting to Lynnwood. I haven’t bussed that far north in probably 25 years, but depending on many factors such as how close you live to a bus stop, and where your school is in Lynnwood, you might be able to do so, on as few as two busses, maybe three. And, very wild guess here, in as little as 1.5 to 2 hours, each way. Again, depending on where the school is, the timing of transfer connections, number of transfers, and of course the lovely traffic.
You’d most likely catch whichever Metro route that runs closest to your home (54/55/56) to downtown, and then a most likely a Sound Transit route, hopefully close enough to the school, or perhaps to a Park & Ride/Transit Center. If you have to cathc a 3rd bus, it may be another Sound Transit, or, a Snohomish Co. Community Transit.
Metro’s Trip Planner, can be a great help in helping you figure this out. It’s worked out great for me on most occasions, but a word of caution, it can be a bit like some of the mapping sites, and give slightly inaccurate info. I went down to Tacoma on Tuesday, and Trip Planner’s suggestion of transferring to a Pierce Co. route at the Tacoma Dome Station should have suggested 10th & Commerce instead.
Let me know if you need more help with Trip Planner/transit planning.
Also, perhaps check into a formal Van Pool, or check for more informal Carpools? Maybe in a seperate Forum Posting?
No matter what, good luck!
Mike

The Velvet BulldogParticipantI should have mentioned: I’m nursing sore muscles in my neck and arm–I got knocked sideways. I’m alternating cold and heat: frozen pack of blueberries for ten minutes, warm cat for ten minutes. Seems to be working out. :-)
