addParticipantI have been really impressed with Mark Warner’s speech tonight – been watching intermittently this afternoon and also liked the women senators’ checklist for change. Others’ thoughts??
Hillary up next …
August 27, 2008 at 2:08 am #635788
MissKMemberIm watching and hate to say this but the speakers thus far aren’t that stimulating. I am anxiously awaiting what Hillary has to say. The women prior to the last two men speakers were just hard to listen to.

mellaw6565MemberI want to have a drink and some peanuts with Brian Scwheitzer from Montana – looks like a fun guy!

addParticipantI have to say I got a little teary with the Hillary intro video!
August 27, 2008 at 2:42 am #635792
WSBKeymasterI got a LOT teary.
“You can be anything you want to be.”
Except president.
Still.
“18 million cracks in the glass ceiling,” but when will it finally be gone for good?

August 27, 2008 at 3:17 am #635796
WSBKeymasterMust go back to writing a story that will also be emotional if I do it justice.
Meantime, I can’t believe the timing … the anniversary of the 19th amendment.
I suck at history so I didn’t realize that till she mentioned it.

MagpieParticipantNo way, No how, No McCain..what a great quote..loved the twin city comment too. Way to go and unite things Hillary!! Or how about, we can’t afford 4 more years of the last 8 years? Some great quotes for posterity.

AnonymousInactiveI’ve been watching on c-span, thoroughly enjoying NOT being told how every one did by the talking heads. I flipped on faux news at the end thinking they had to have liked that speech if even a little. What a bunch of debbie downers (no disrespect to any actual debbies:) They called it a totally generic useless speech that could have been made about any candidate.
I, myself, thought it was excellent and had a little case of the weepies at that video too. I’m wondering, diehard Hillary fans, did you feel it did enough to promote unity?
August 27, 2008 at 3:30 am #635799
MissKMemberI’ve always had a love/hate relationship with Hillary, but her speech tonight was OUTSTANDING! While listening I thought, I am proud to be a woman, proud to be an American, and proud to have many opportunities afforded to me. Give thanks to the women suffrage. Hope is in the air!!!!
August 27, 2008 at 3:35 am #635800
addParticipantThoroughly agree with all the comments – it was a VERY good speech on so many levels. The Republicans would never admit to anything good (and likewise I’m sure the Dems will do the same next week) – which is a shame because there were some excellent comments and speeches tonight. I loved how Hillary was so straightforward about “are you in this for me or for the change we are trying to make in this country?” – very direct but also compelling & respectful (and I’m not a diehard fan, always been on the fence with Hillary).
August 27, 2008 at 3:43 am #635801
TrickParticipantJT,
I too watched the speech on CSPAN, then as Hillary ended, turned to Keith and Chris on MSNBC, and I heard “She hit that out of the ballpark”, then I switched to Faux, and they kept knocking it down as a mediocre speech (all the 4 guests at the table) and commenting on how she didn’t praise any of Obama’s characteristics to be President, and that she made herself a demagogue among “feminist women”.
PUH-Leezzz.
It’s a drastic contrast to see them interpret the same speech I saw, which I found to be very well done and moving.
August 27, 2008 at 3:45 am #635802
mellaw6565MemberExcellent unifying speech – her finest! As James Carville said on CNN: “This is a bad night for the Republicans”!
August 27, 2008 at 3:53 am #635803
charlabobParticipantHill’s speech was stunning — watching MSNBC (to see Rachel Maddow from time to time) I wondered how long it would be before their cameras stopped obsessing with Bill.
From Chelsea’s introduction, through the speech, they finally stopped. Hillary did what she needed to do with complete grace and charm. She was the first (and I hope not the last) to actually attack McCain. She made it clear that she supports Obama enthusiastically and that her supporters should do the same.
Does anyone know if all pictures are from the faux news pool? (Apparently they’re still doing the “one camera fits all” act and, not surprisingly, Faux won the pool lottery for the Dem convention. One can only hope MSNBC will own the cameras in Minneapolis. :-)
BTW, I don’t believe this has ever been a battle between race and gender – or between Hill and Barack. I believe it’s a battle between the Democratic Wing of the democratic party and the Republican wing (aka the DLC.) Whatever it is, the democrats are taking back the democratic party (the person sitting next to Bill was Harold Ford, chair of the DLC — they don’t give up without a fight.)
BTW II, MSNBC is reporting that Hillary walked through a group of Obama staffers on her way to speak and got a huge standing ovation — when she left, the same group gave her an even rowdier standing O — note that wasn’t shown as part of the pool coverage — it violate the “convention wisdom” of those who long for a food fight.
Go Hillary! (Dump bill:-)

JenVMembergood for Hilary. Nice speech. thanks JoB for posting.
August 27, 2008 at 4:47 am #635807
HPMemberJoB Thank you I missed her on tv. What a speech!!!I also have to add I saw an interview with Charles Barkley who is at the convention and I must say when he was player I loathed him but ever since retirement I just love him more all the time, he even said he thought Bill was a great president but would not be an asset to this presidential race for Obama. What I liked most about what Charles said is the interviewer asked him what he thinks about Obama raising taxes for the wealthy, and his response was “so what I make a lot of money and a few more hundred thousand paid in taxes will not affect me.” I love that honesty we need more of that.. again great speech Hillary no more of the last 8 years!!!!!!!!!!!
August 27, 2008 at 5:14 am #635808
MissKMemberErik – I noticed that she didn’t say proud wife. I think she tried to keep the limelight off Bill and keep it more geared towards Barck support. I believe there is real contention with Bill and the Obama camp.
August 27, 2008 at 5:34 am #635809
AnonymousInactiveI loved that Hillary complemented Michelle Obama. I thought that was very classy.
August 27, 2008 at 2:51 pm #635810
JoBParticipantHillary is a classy lady.
August 27, 2008 at 2:52 pm #635811
walfredoMemberShe was fantastic. I have to say, she made an extremely powerful argument to anyone who supported her, who were moving to McCain.
It was a very sincere plea. I particularly loved when she talked about all the people she was running for president for, and then asked her supporters if it was always about her or if it was to actually help these people. Just a great speech.
Dammnit Hill, don’t make me like you again!
