keleesoMemberHillary showed sooooo much class! I cried during the video and I cried during her speech. I don’t think she could have done anything more to persuade her hold-out delegates to support Obama.
Did you see Bill mouth “I love you, I love you, I love you.”? I thought it was corny but cute.

beachdrivegirlParticipantEven today re-watching the speech while getting ready for work it gave me goose bumps!

ZenguyParticipantI honestly believe that if Hillary gave speaches like this one and her concession speach, she would be the nominee.
August 27, 2008 at 10:49 pm #635817
WSBKeymasterBack home after covering a few things downtown today … just watched Sen. Rodham Clinton make the motion to declare Obama the nominee by acclamation. Another memorable moment. Funny they do the roll call so early, though. That used to be a prime-time highlight …

JoBParticipantCH.. thanks for the link to the speech…

TammiWSMemberAnyone watching roll call? Amazing process and now Hillary motioned to suspend the rules and nominate Obama….VERY classy. I’m so glad – this is nothing but good….

ZenguyParticipantHere is a link to the Hillary tribute video on Huffington Post.

DianeParticipantthank god for c-span, and thanks to whoever reminded me on this thread yesterday; I was getting so frustrated with the cable news, when the talking heads kept breaking away from convention to give their critiques (how many times did I yell “shut up” at the tv?)or commercials
so great today to see the stage filled with women, US Reps, too many to count
I worked as a precinct leader in bay area for Bill in 92, and our main focus was to get Barbara Boxer elected, and wearing buttons to attain 10% representation of women in Congress; I don’t know the numbers now, but they were pathetically low then; it’s so fantastic to see this progress for women
and I love the stat, that this is the first ever convention where the majority of delegates are women

JoBParticipantZenguy…

MagpieParticipantI loved how the Dems are finally being proactive..it’s going to be hard for the McCain group to question their patriotrism and show them soft on terror..the Joe Biden piece was unbelievable..and so personnaly affected by Iraq. I can hardly wait till tomorrow!!
August 28, 2008 at 3:28 am #635825
addParticipantI think Joe Biden’s son Beau should have been more direct about why he can’t be there to support his dad in November – I didn’t get it until one of the CNN commentators mentioned that he is with the Delaware National Guard and is being deployed (to Iraq I think). Why can’t they flaunt (or rather, share) their “patriotism” like John McCain does at every opportunity???
August 28, 2008 at 9:57 am #635826
WSBKeymasterI thought the same thing (saw the speech in a replay late tonight) … they introduced him as “Captain Beau Biden” but till I googled him, I didn’t quite get the connection.
August 28, 2008 at 12:57 pm #635827
MagpieParticipantI was watching KCTS and one of the commentators said he was on his way to Iraq..that was all that they said, though. Perhaps they meant it to be that subtle, who knows. I’m sure that Biden’s son in Iraq takes some of the wind out of the GOP sails.

umm he is not just going to Iraq as a JAG, he is the current Arrorney General of Delaware.

beachdrivegirlParticipantWow! Thanks Ken.

walfredoMemberBest quote so far:
Ted Strickland of Ohio:
“George H.W. Bush, was born on third and thought he hit a triple. George W. Bush was born on third and then stole second.”
August 28, 2008 at 3:53 pm #635831
JoBParticipantyou make me giggle…
but even though it’s baseball.. i suspect it’s too subtle for those who think they are supporting the home team.

“do you think there’s a time delay?? This is like being inside John McCain’s brain”
too funny

JoBParticipanti never thought i would see the day when John Dean cracked up Jon Stewart. Too cool!
John Dean is such a lovable geek… said in only the fondest way…
My ability to track details is a little weak today.. but hubby told me recently that some well respected major magazine or paper published a commentary asking if Jon Stewart was the most trusted man in American broadcasting today.. and concluded that he was.
I think he’s our new secret weapon in the fight against ignorance .. if you can make people laugh, you can make them think…
August 28, 2008 at 4:54 pm #635834
WSMomParticipantWhile I was watching “The Daily Show”, my eight year old came up and asked me if Jon Stewart was a democrat. I told him I don’t really know what party Mr. Stewart alligns himself, but that I think he really cares about our country and uses humor to help people see the truth about our government.
August 28, 2008 at 6:09 pm #635835
JoBParticipanti am pretty sure he is a democrat…
though that may be an assumption on my part.
i think all smart people are:)
August 28, 2008 at 6:22 pm #635836
beachdrivegirlParticipantWSMom I love that yoru eight year old asked you that! Too cute! Who know what he is.. he might even be an Independent. Not everyone identitifies with just one party.
