Michael Barone on how “lipstick on a pig” shows the McCain campaign’s ability to deftly put Obama on defense:

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/09/mccain_flies_his_campaign_past.html

Whether you think that’s “brilliant” or just “taking the low road” on Team McP’s part is up to you. :) I think it’s a bit of both. But it certainly means that Dems are wrong to misunderestimate McCain & Palin.

Interesting background to McCain’s ties to Georgia…hmmm, maybe one of his houses is there?

And why her candidacy for VP is a horrendous notion:

If I hear one more time that Palin is a “feminist,” I dare say I…I have no idea what I will say.

As a scary side note, someone said to me in all seriousness, “well, it’s not every VP that can field dress a moose.”

Well, honestly, I think most of them could. And if those are the necessary qualifications, then I can be VP, too.

Speaking of polls, Real Clear Politics keeps their list up to the minute, it seems.

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/latestpolls/index.html

NATIONAL: Last 2 likely voter (LV) polls have McP up by +3 & +4. Last 3 registered voter (RV) polls have McP at -1, +3, and tied.

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/us/general_election_mccain_vs_obama-225.html#polls

WA: McCain now within 3% of Obama (avg of 2 very recent polls). WOO HOO! Oh, sorry, no woohooing on the Inside Baseball thread. But can it really be? Can Washington State really be in play??? That hasn’t happened here in MANY years. We might actually be seeing a lot of the candidates stop by, more than once.

Jenny – as a lawyer I understand the meaning of “strict constructionist”. If you know what the leading strict constructionists say, then you know that all of them are in agreement that Roe vs. Wade is a piece of social legislation that has no basis in the reading of the Constitution and therefore is bad law.

McCain knows this and wants Roe v. Wade overturned – the only way to guarantee that result is if he only picks a strict constructionist judge. Therefore to pass his litmus test you must be a strict constructionist.

No, a litmus test would be if he said he’d only appoint judges who would vote a certain way on a specific issue – say, against Roe v Wade. Favoring strict constructionists is his judicial philosophy.

Drudge was linking to a 2000 feature on McCain from the NYT.

    http://graphics.boston.com/news/politics/campaign2000/news/McCain_character_loyal_to_a_fault+.shtml

At the end it mentions why he has never gotten into using the computer much:

McCain gets emotional at the mention of military families needing food stamps or veterans lacking health care. The outrage comes from inside: McCain’s severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes…

Actually the whole article is illuminating. (Not necessarily in or against McCain’s favor, but interesting nonetheless.)

Um regulations??? SEriously what a joke.

6 a.m. you can find out you are pregnant! (at home test)

8 a.m. you call to make an appointment

3 p.m. you go to the doctors and have the dirty work done.

5 p.m. you are being picked up and the rest is history you have not even known you were pregnancy for 24 hours and made a rash irrational decision…

sounds real regulated to me! and i have more faith in our system tahn to think that we will be brought back to the 1960’s….

    Energetically Wrong

    September 12, 2008

Palin says Alaska supplies 20 percent of U.S. energy. Not true. Not even close.

“Palin claims Alaska “produces nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic supply of energy.” That’s not true.

Alaska did produce 14 percent of all the oil from U.S. wells last year, but that’s a far cry from all the “energy” produced in the U.S.

Alaska’s share of domestic energy production was 3.5 percent, according to the official figures kept by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.”

And if by “supply” Palin meant all the energy consumed in the U.S., and not just produced here, then Alaska’s production accounted for only 2.4 percent.”

I love it that Fact Check continues to check on John & Sarah’s make believe world.

John McCain in 2007 commenting on his rivals Giuliani (Mayor) and Romney (Governor).

“I have had a strong and a long relationship on national security, I’ve been involved in every national crisis that this nation has faced since Beirut, I understand the issues, I understand and appreciate the enormity of the challenge we face from radical Islamic extremism,” the Senator declared. “I am prepared. I am prepared. I need no on-the-job training. I wasn’t a mayor for a short period of time. I wasn’t a governor for a short period of time.”

    ok

    Sarah Palin.

    beautiful?

maybe in a hootchi momma/outdoor girl/ 60’s beauty queen kind of way… She’s definately the kind of girl the rugby team wants to hang out with…

and i am not dishing rugby players. it’s my favorite sport and therefore the one i have the most experience observing their taste in women.

    confident?

    oh yeah…… maybe overconfident.

    articulate?

i caught her scripted and edited performance on a local Alaska TV show sponsored by one of the oil companies.. a promotional piece on juneau… and a couple of her scripted speeches before the nomination …

    sorry, not so much…

    Independent?

the juries out. right now it looks like she was only independent of her party when it came to rhetoric after the fact or when it came to destroying political rivals or when she reluctantly followed highly popular public opinion.

    accomplished…

well, she probably is pretty accomplished given her circumstances and lack of focus on education…

    conservative..

    yup

If this is the woman that the conservative sector of the republican party wants to hold up as an example of it’s finest, that choice says a lot more about them than it does about Sarah Palin..

and i am afraid little of it is positive…

As tonya42s latest comments say far more about her and her prejudices than it does about Sarah.

overall, a disappointment to women in general and to feminists in particular.

He says Roe vs. Wade was the worst decision ever – social legislation from the bench (McCain got boos from the audience)

He says if Roe vs. Wade is overturned, than each State could decide for themselves.

“We’ve already reported on at least three other ads, in both Spanish and English, from Sen. John McCain’s campaign that distort his rival’s tax policy. The ads claim that, for example, Democratic Sen. Barack Obama would raise taxes “on the sale of your home” and that he has a “history of raising taxes” and that he wanted to raise taxes on “families” making just $42,000 a year.

Claims like these have led us to say that McCain’s campaign is engaging in a “pattern of deceit” when it comes to describing Obama’s tax plan. This most recent ad fits right into the template.”

McCain Rediscovers His Appreciation For Public Service

    http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/09/12/politics/animal/main4443571.shtml

“Indeed, McCain wanted to present himself as an entirely different person from the senator we’ve seen over the last couple of years. The national service bill McCain championed seven years ago, but recently blew off? Wouldn’t you know it, he supports it again. The community organizers his convention trashed last week? Wouldn’t you know it, now McCain loves community organizers.

Given this, McCain’s remarks came across as hollow. He rediscovered the issue of national service, but apparently only because he’d accepted an invitation to appear at a forum on national service. There’s still no indication that McCain is prepared to back up his new-found interest with policy specifics or political capital.”

The Duwamish Bridge may be a project covered by “Bridging the Gap” – they are reconfiguring/adding (?) facilities to make it easier for bicycles to use that bridge (not the Lower Spokane St Bridge). However, finding this information is not easy since it’s not posted anywhere. I’m checking this.

More interesting information regarding construction in the upcoming years in the SODO area…

Someone already mentioned Camp Long, it is unique. Special permission must be had from the Director of Operations, but it is possible to serve liquor. It’s a great facility. I’ve attended at least two catered wedding receptions there in the past 5 years and everyone has enjoyed their rustic atmosphere. See: http://tinyurl.com/52h4fm

    Obama’s tax plan

    http://online.wsj.com/article_print/SB121867201724238901.html

“Both candidates for president have proposed tax plans. But they are starkly different in their approaches and their economic impact. Sen. Obama is focused on cutting taxes for middle-class families and small businesses, and investing in key areas like health, innovation and education. He would do this while cutting unnecessary spending, paying for his proposals and bringing down the budget deficit.

In contrast, John McCain offers what would essentially be a third Bush term, with his economic speeches outlining $3.4 trillion of tax cuts over 10 years beyond what President Bush has already proposed and geared even more to high-income earners. The McCain plan would lead to deficits the likes of which we have never seen in this country. It would take money from the middle class and from future generations so that the wealthy can live better today.”

We are so lucky to have two of the best massage therapists in the world, right here in West Seattle at Chill.

Although the store is very small, the quality of massage is absolutely the best. A few specific things I like:

-The massage style is strong with impact, but still smooth and relaxing.

-They always find that “one spot” (that always seems to move around) where I hold all my tension.

-They remember my particular style likes and dislikes, but never fail to check in to see what specific needs I have each particular week.

    -Their personalities are simply lovely.

-It smells good, the massage tables are comfy, and the music is great.

    -The prices are reasonable.

-I can book my appointments online.

For those who are interested in reading more, here is my story of how I came to become a dedicated client to Chill. I’ve obviously become a huge fan.

I try to get a massage whenever I travel and have experienced different therapists and different styles in places from Italy to Hawaii to Mexico to Spain.

Despite the frequency and variety I’ve experienced, I determined many years ago that my favorite massage therapist was local – Nicole Gainey, who had her own offive over on Capitol Hill.

However, in 2004, I was quite upset when Nicole decided to close up her business and move to China. She was so fantastic that it took me over a year to find another therapist who was even close to having her talent.

That was when I met Diana Elizabeth. I can’t say which is better because their styles are so different, but suffice it to say I had met Nicole’s match and was thrilled to finally find myself a “New Nicole.”

Fast forward through two years of amazing massages… You can imagine my excitement when I learned that 1. Nicole was back in town, 2. opened up a new store in WEST SEATTLE, and 3. Diana was leaving her spa to work with Nicole!!!

I’m not sure what cosmic force brought these two together, but it doesn’t matter. I am sooooo happy that they work together at Chill and are just a few blocks from my house.

Needless to say, I highly recommend Chill Massage Therapy to everybody who is stressed out, needing some time to relax and rejuvenate, in pain, or just happens to be a massage junkie like me! I’m constantly giving friends gift certificate’s to Chill just so I can share my happy little West Seattle secret. :-)

i think the WASLs are the embarrassment.. but we are stuck with them.

if that is the only way you measure our schools, they are doomed to failure…

which was the intent of the institution of testing in public schools in the first place.

i would prefer to learn about drop out rates and the percentage of high school graduates who go on to further education and if our secondary school system has had to increase or decrease their investment in remedial programs to allow enrolling students to compete academically

if you use only the WASL to measure school performance, you lose a lot of valuable information.

which btw is glaringly apparent if you look at the history in texas’s schools where George Bush first instigated the program.. by any standards other than successful testing.

i don’t know enough about the transportation issues to be able to tell you what Gregoire could have done differently…

did she really underfund state employee pension funds to create the rainy day fund.. without a permanent solution for restoring funds? I would want to see documentation on that.

    roundthesound…

i too don’t think that abortion should be the primary issue in any campaign.. in fact it is not as high on my list as many others… but i do think it is often an indicator of a candidate’s attitude towards civil liberties.. and i care a great deal about those.
