Yes, there is work going on. Some weeks back, we briefly saw the owner, while we were parking nearby on our way to cover something, asked him how it’s going, “It’s going!” he replied cheerily. We were there again more recently (last week, I think) and saw work crews at the site. This is more a labor of love than some big construction project. But we are overdue for an update, and while Clay Eals had been chronicling it as part of his work as SWSHS executive director, now that he’s left that role I don’t know if he’ll continue updating it for them … Tracy

It’s been over a year since I last saw an update on the progress. Has it ground to a halt, or is there actually work going on?

I have 5 boxes of the size 2’x2’x15″ high (approx on all dimensions). They are more shipping than moving boxes but if they work for you let me know and I’ll bring them home from work.

Of course protected bike lanes are another matter. I was referring to the non-separated bike lanes, such as on Avalon. Every day I see cars turning right across the bike lane, instead of moving into the right lane first.

Hey right turners, please familiarize yourselves with the rules of the road. You are allowed to drive in a bike lane to make a right turn. In fact, you are REQUIRED to do it, as it is illegal to turn across another lane of traffic going the same direction. You are putting cyclists at risk by crossing over their path, and you are holding up traffic that would like to make it through the green light. A turn signal would be great, too.

I think that is exactly how I feel as well re: this has to be her choice.

What we feel might improve another’s life may not actually help.

I would still love to build something, and if she want it, awesome. If not, there are others who might. If they don’t, hell, it was a fun, good heart thing to do. Learning lesson and move on.

The thing that warms me most is how so many people here want to help.

I second Apical. After trying a number of services in my yard with many trees, Roger gave me the most reasonable price. He’s a certified arborist. He’s good at taking off the overgrowth, but leaving the tree or bush looking entirely natural. No stubs or rough edges. He also gives advice. He seems to really like trees.

Zeb trimmed 5 overgrown trees for me this year and did a great job at a reasonable price. He’s a certified arborist and really knows how to shape trees so they grow naturally. He trimmed a huge maple 5 or 6 years ago that was hanging over the building and it has continued to grow naturally and with a beautiful shape.

I’ve had very good experiences with them. When I thought I could benefit from new tires, the guy who looked them over said I had at least another year left on them but he noticed, from the sound, that the battery would soon need replacement (but not right now). They’re good mechanics and the owner is conscientious and ethical.

I am so sorry to hear about this! I am perpetually terrified for my animals as we back up to an alley/greenbelt here in Arbor Heights and there is a lot of foot traffic back there. With two golden retrievers in the yard there can be some barking and what not, and also my animals are very oral-focused so I always worry someone is going to throw something over the fence and they’ll catch hold of it. I’m so glad your furbaby is ok, keep us posted on if you find out who did it, that’s just awful.

Hey there, I’ve been encouraged by other West Seattleites to share an experience that happened last week. I was out of town for a day and a half and had my puppy with me. When returning, i brought him to the backyard to go to the bathroom. He did so and then suddenly grabbed a green waxy thing about the size of my fist in his mouth. I had no idea of what it was and then realized that there were four more of these in the yard. We live way above street level and our yard is completely enclosed so it would take some work to get these into our yard. My first thought was that a neighbor threw over a puppy treat and then got a little suspicious, took a photo of them to send to my Husband who was out of town and when he had no idea what they were, I took the one from my puppies mouth and put all five in the garbage. Two days later another one of these showed up. We had hosed off the patio early that morning and so i can without a doubt say this was a new object that appeared. My puppy made his way to it once again. This time he chewed much more of the object and i kept it in a ziplock bag to try to figure out what these things were later. As i told friends who were visiting for a BBQ the story later that day, they obviously thought this was really strange and posted a photo of the object on Facebook to try to figure out what it was. In about 5 minutes we found the horrifying truth. These were rat poison pellets. Someone is deliberately trying to poison my 5 month old puppy. We live in the Gatewood area. SPD came by and their first question was “who do you think did this”. I have my suspicions and will find the truth in time. If anyone else has experienced anything like this, i would be very interested in hearing your story. My puppy is alive. He was treated with charcoal and vitamin K. I am horrified by this experience.

Saw M-T this evening and introduced myself. She was very cordial, and quite formal but then I was a stranger. She insisted she has safe places to be at night and would not hear of someone providing her with anything else. I didn’t push it as I have no idea of her real circumstances. Maybe someone who knows her a little better would be able to find out more about what she needs or will accept. If anyone out there has talked to her before and/or is better at this than I, please let us know in this forum. If there is anything we can do to make sure she is warm and safe, there are several of us willing to help. She feels like an integral part of our community and we would like to be there with assistance if she will accept it. Thanks…

If you see landscapers in your neighborhood go up and ask them if they’ll do the job, I’m pretty sure any small company could help you.
The hubby broke his shoulder a few years back and our yard needed mowing badly (grass was at least 3 feet high) and our neighbors yard service was at their house, he went over and asked if they’d do a one-time job and sure enough they said yes.

    Do you have Fibromyalgia?

There are a large number of people who have Fibromyalgia, a type of chronic pain that also includes fatigue and other bodily symptoms. There is currently no cure for Fibromyalgia and available treatments provide only modest benefits. The University of Washington’s Fibromyalgia Research Program is seeking participants for a study supported by a grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This is a randomized study that involves a combination of different behavioral health and drug treatments with placebo controls. The project is attempting to evaluate different treatment combinations for people with Fibromyalgia, to see which ones work best and for whom.

Participation in the study will require 13 visits spaced over approximately 4 months with a follow-up visit 6 months after treatment has been completed. All visits will take place in the University District Building, 1107 Northeast 45th Street, Seattle, WA 98105. The building is conveniently located on several bus routes. Parking is available on request. Eligible participants will receive a comprehensive medical evaluation and a combination of pharmacological and behavioral health treatments. To participate in this study, individuals need to have received a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia by a health professional, currently have a primary healthcare provider, and be able to speak and understand verbal and written English. There are several additional eligibility requirements that can be discussed on the telephone with project staff if you are or someone you know is interested in learning more.

Participants may be paid up to $300 upon completion of the study. If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and you or they would like to learn more about this study, please contact the Fibromyalgia Research Program at (206) 221-1737 or csheff@uw.edu (we cannot guarantee the confidentiality of any information sent by email).

    Hi there,

We’re moving into the High Point area soon (very excited), but the selling agent has not been responsive to confirm how to get in contact with the Home Owner’s Association. Anyone able to help us confirm who runs this and how to contact them? We have a few moving in questions. (House is near Bataan Park.)

    Thanks in advance!
