Oh JoB, It is all political. Don’t be silly.

    Homepage

How are Bush and Cheney sanitizing this? They admitted to using harsh interrogations. They are not hiding.

I didn’t hear many complaints when it came out that Clinton signed and EXTRAORDINARY RENDITION to capture and take suspected terrorists to other countries. Below is a link concerning this. Man, this stuff is nasty.

Obama backed off on prosecuting Bush and Cheney because his own Attorney General helped the Clinton administration “kidnap” enemies of the state and move them to CIA detention camps on foreign soil. If the lawyers for Bush Cheney get disbarred, would it not allow others to go after Holder and others?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extraordinary_rendition

The fact is Pelosi could have spoken out earlier but it either wasn’t politically popular at the time or it just wasn’t important enough to her.

Okay thank you JimmyG for that explanation.

Emergency vehicles when responding “code” are required by law and case law to have both visual and audible signals on (with very few exceptions).

And your needing sleep isn’t one of those exceptions.

(located near Admiral & 48th Ave SW)

This ground level apartment is in an extremely safe and quiet neighborhood, just minutes from everything: metro stops, shopping, discounted movie theater, restaurants and Alki beach.

The unit has been completely refurbished, to include new: range, kitchen countertop, sink and faucet, all carpets and flooring, heaters & thermostats, electrical outlets and light switches, baseboards and light fixtures, double-pane vinyl windows throughout and even a new front door!

There is shared laundry in the basement and private off-street parking adjacent to this cat-friendly, non-smoking building.

A 1-year renewable lease for $995 a month. First months rent plus a $500 deposit (which could be fully refundable) to move in. Employment and rental history checks are done on each applicant, as well as a credit check ($35 fee to you) once the other two checks have been successfully completed.

Water, sewer & garbage are billed to you by the owner (first 25% paid for by the owner, the remainder is divided up amongst the number of people in the building); in the past it’s been roughly $30-$35 per month. You’re also responsible for your electrical use and any other services you choose to subscribe to.

These apartments don’t stay available for long, so don’t delay!! Please call with any questions or to set up a viewing, some day-times and some evenings available.

I’m not buying the health crisis idea. If you were at the front of the store; you and the cashier would have observed that something was going on in the store. I wonder how many minutes the “several minutes” were that you had to wait before the cashier canceled the order. It seems to me that more than three minutes should be reason enough to cancel the sale and move on to the next customer. The store manager should appreciate an inquiry and a suggestion that chashiers cancel orders after a designated amount of time waiting for a customer to return.

If I find out that the guy had a health crisis on the way back to the register, or was abducted by aliens, or something like that, I will personally apologize to him for calling him rude.

    Fun!

    I’ve stayed at:

    Sommerset

    Stardust

    Excaliber

    Hawthorne Suites

    Paris

    Tropicana

    Barbary Coast

    New York, New York

    Luxor

    Bellagio

    Mandalay Bay

    I’ve seen

    Mystere

    Sigfried & Roy

    O

    Jubilee

    Avenue Q

Now of course much of these goodies are gone, gone, gone. I would suggest Mandalay Bay or Bellagio for pool, with Tropicana also being a good and much more affordable option. I would recommend a Cirque Du Soleil show especially if you haven’t seen one.

    good luck!

really? you think this is nothing more than a distraction from Pelosi?

With Pelosi.. everyone is in a dither about what did she know and when? With Cheny and Bush it’s what did they DO and when…

don’t you think it is just a bit hypocritical to worry about what Pelosi knew and sanitize what Cheny and Bush did with terms like enhanced interrogation?

how exactly is enhanced interrogation different from torture? Ventura says it’s not.. and he should know having endured it as part of his Navy Seal training.

This is so not about political finger pointing..

Pelosi is trying to cover her big San Fran butt, and you bring up something to change the conversation. Nice ploy. :)

Actually Ken, this is a good topic.

From what I have researched enhanced interrogations usually are far less effective than the nasty stuff.

I am grateful no major attacks occurred in the US. Torture is wrong. Period.

I know that some of our troops are subjected to enhanced interrogation at the SERE school. Here is one from a military rascal. http://www.blackfive.net/main/2005/12/us_military_run.html

here is one from US News and World Report.

    http://www.usnews.com/articles/news/2009/04/17/bush-lawyers-used-us-military-training-to-justify-cia-interrogation-techniques.html

All I can say is that Presidents make decisions that in hind sight look bad or good. Should FDR have been prosecuted for the Japanese descent Americans internment in camps? Should Truman have been prosecuted for dropping two atomic bombs? Should Reagan have been prosecuted for Iran Contra? Should Jerry Ford been prosecuted for ordering Swine Flu vaccinations that caused possibly more deaths than the flu would have?

I hope we do not hear about torture again from future presidents. I also hope terrorists would go away but I fear that may not happen. We can hope. It also seems this new administration will not allow enhanced interrogation.

If cartoons can make a certain group of people riot, I hope the ACLU is not successful in getting more photos released.

Excalibur has a great pool but the hotel carpet is horrible and will give you the spins if ypu have been drinking. There is some club there that has different rooms all going at once. It is a dance club and it was really fun. There was a rock room and a trance room, and a disco room. Anybody know the name of it? I think it was near the strip but not on it, down on the Excalibur side. Not sure about that though.

Cheney’s quote reads a lot stronger than it viewed in the interview… I think we should rename this the Cheney presidency… because that appears to be what we got..

not that i absolve Bush of any guilt in this.

km, what size are you looking for? Like jissy noted, Costco had some very large outdoor ones the last time I was there for very reasonable prices.

As to whether or not Half Price Pots still exists, I found this current posting on Craigs List for what had been their Bellevue location

    http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/gms/1172775649.html or still could be.

President Bush says torture anywhere is an affront to human dignity everywhere, and the United States is committed to building a world where human rights are respected and protected by the rule of law.

    Read more: http://www.america.gov/st/washfile-english/2003/June/20030626153956nirog0.7272455.html

    and now.

SCHIEFFER: How much did President Bush know specifically about the methods that were being used? We know that you–and you have said–that you approved this…

    CHENEY: Right.

SCHIEFFER: … somewhere down the line. Did President Bush know everything you knew?

CHENEY: I certainly, yes, have every reason to believe he knew –he knew a great deal about the program. He basically authorized it. I mean, this was a presidential-level decision. And the decision went to the president. He signed off on it.

We got two notes about the Bonair sighting. Nothing obvious on the scanner. No 911 calls suggesting anything involving injury around that time. And we were in the Alki area shortly afterward with no hint of mayhem, so until I see an actual report, there at least is no indication it was anything major.

I went to pick up a few groceries at Thriftway this afternoon. There’s a cashier with only one person on line (currently being checked out), so I got on that line. The customer decides he needs to back his cart out to get “one more thing” and leaves the cashier to finish checking him out. Now she’s done and the customer is nowhere to be found. Several minutes pass, she apologizes to me (no that it’s her fault), and there are now 2 people in line behind me, all waiting on you – the rude customer who felt everyone should wait on you. Finally, the cashier (who had already bagged the order) cancelled out of the order so that she could check me out and the rest of the people waiting. So not only did you waste other customers’ time by making us wait, but you wasted the time of the cashier who spent all that time ringing you up and bagging multiple bags, just so you could take off and – if you came back – it would have to be unpacked, rung up again, and then packed a second time.

When I’ve needed to get “one more thing,” I will finalize the current order, ask the cashier if he/she could hold onto my groceries there for a second (after I paid), and then run back and check out a second time with the new item. It’s really not that hard, and much more considerate of the people around you.

i went to las vegas for the first time in december and stayed at the palazzo. it was so beautiful! i was there with my friend during her engineering conference. i spent half the day by myself so i leisurely stayed in the hotel and walked around. i enjoyed the bathroom and its huge tub tv. our suite had two flat screen tvs. one in the living room area and one in the sleeping area. it was so nice! ugh, i could live there. it is connected to the venetian so you can easily walk over for shopping over there and then pop on over for the gondola ride or a visit to madame taussaud’s wax museum. i walked to caesar’s forum shopping center and they have a free tour of their aquarium behind the scenes. the lady there used to live in tacoma.

    shows:

    1.La Cage: women impersonators..very good

    2. Cirque du Soleil Mystere: very good acrobatics, story kind of strange but don’t think too hard about it.

    3. Wayne Brady: what a talent! sings, dances, and so funny. saw him on a sunday and bought cheapest seats but since there weren’t that many people they allowed cheap seat people move up but not to front row but that’s ok.

we missed out on ‘thunder down under’. that’s the one thing i wasn’t able to do. oh and i by passed the buffets. thank goodness for this thread! i will be sure to hit those next time.

I live in a building adjacent to where the three cop cars stopped. The dead end of Bonair pl. They got out on foot and chased 2 or 3 males around my building (i didn’t see them) and caught one. I don’t know if they caught the other two. I also have no idea what for.

RCW 66.16.040 and 66.20.160 are a great start. You must have acceptable valid id on your person to enter a licensed premises. Even the 61 year old Govenor was denied entrance into an Olympia bar (Hannah’s) without her id back in July.

It is the application of the letter of the law rather than the spirit of the law.

Write a letter to your Representatives (McDermott, Cody, & Nelson) and the Govenor to affect change.

transplantella – Your experience was unfortunate, but I’m going to agree with some of the others that Redline might have been wanting to “cover their behind.”

    .

Perhaps they had just been recently cited or spooked because they heard some other business was cited. Who knows? Have you talked to the Redline management to get their take on this?

    .

You and I are about the same age, and I have been “carded” before right here in West Seattle. Personally, I thought it was kind of cute, and when the server “guessed” my age at ten years younger than I really am, she just earned herself an extra dollar when it was time to leave a tip!

It is their right to refuse. It doesn’t matter how old you look or are. I forgot my I.D. once and knew I wasn’t going to gain entrance somwhere else because I didn’t know anyone their. Lessons learned the hardway. I didn’t take it personal because it is the law to have a legal I.D. to drink in a bar. No if’s and’s or butts about it. Maybe Scott(the owner of Redline)is very happy now that his employee is doing his job correctly if he caught this thread.

    Notable Vegas pools I’ve visited:

Mandalay Bay – HUGE! Lazy river to float around in, giant wave pool to bodysurf/splash around. These waterpark type attractions draw more younger/smaller kids than you’ll find at other hotels, but for an extra charge you can hide in their 21+ ‘beach club’ and they have a ton of cabanas for rent. Sometimes they have concerts outside that you watch from the pool and the sandy shore– I saw the B-52’s there and when they played “Rock Lobster” the entire audience got into a huge splash fight. Fun!

Hard Rock – MTV Spring Break, live and in person. People just sort of stand in the pool with drinks, like a bar that’s half-full of water. It’s really sceney and cruisey. Can be fun with the right crowd; if you’re not laughing with them you can always laugh at them.

Mirage – This is one of my favorites. There’s a big waterfall and a huge open pool, lots of tropical foilage and a couple of silly waterslides. The location of the Mirage is prime, right in the middle of everything.

Caesar’s Palace – As noted above, part of the pool area is under renovation, but some of it is open and it looks pretty cool, not your average swimmin’ hole. They usually have a 21+ topless area, if you’re into that. Right next door to the Mirage, so a great location.

Flamingo – a long, meandering series of little pools dotted with palm trees. It’s pretty but doesn’t get very deep anywhere, more for wading around.

I’ve heard the same thing as datamuse, and I know of at least a couple places that won’t let you in without ID even if you aren’t buying alcohol. Also when you’re buying retail booze everyone present at the point of purchase has to show ID. Even though that one is less enforced, my older sister wasn’t allowed to purchase a six pack of beer once because she had a 12 year old austin in tow and I was unable to produce ID stating I was of legal drinking age. And I was with someone who was buying beer at met market the other day and we both got carded. When Fremont PCC was in its “old” location I was carded for trying to buy henry weinhard rootbeer on two different occasions by two different people. That was my favorite. Also the redline is gross.

I’ve been going to Las Vegas about twice a year for the last 4 years, for work. Stayed lots a places there, and had meetings in every hotel, each with it’s own pros and cons. For your consideration, ranked in order of where I’d actually want to stay:

    1. THEhotel at Mandalay Bay – similar a W, at the end of the strip, nicer because of it.

    2. Wynn – great bathrooms, and service level.

    3. Bellagio – nothing great, everything very well, so the hotel is never becomes a worry.

    4. Venetian – theme gets old fast, but it’s very Vegas, at least to me, and decent rooms and a good drunk walk location from everything.

    5. Paris – What the Venetian will be in a few years. Respectable and affordable. Good views of other hotels, also a nice location.

    6. Balleys – cheap, but not gross. You must ask for the North tower, or you’ll be in rooms from the 70’s.

Have fun! Yes, like others said, detox and go to Red Rock for nature, and if you get tired of the strip, head over to Green Valley Ranch for a locals scene and some good shopping.

I’ve been to Vegas 10 times in my short life, and while my story won’t affect you much, hopefully it will help someone else reading this board:

    Stay are the Tropicana.

Yes, what you have heard is right: The Tropicana is very boring. It’s frills are nill and it is old as dirt.

HOWEVER! It is in (in my opinion) the BEST corner of the Strip, surrounded on all sides by the MGM Grand, New York, New York, Luxor, Mandelay Bay and within walking distance of anything else you’d want.

    AND IT IS SO CHEAP!

In college, whenever we’d have a three-day weekend, a bunch of buddies and I would load up a car and burn through the desert all night. The first few times we went ‘cheap’ and stayed at the Travelodge on the Strip. But the Tropicana costs LESS than the Travelodge did!

So anyway, stay there. Save money on the room and use it for spending all over the town.
