erincorrineMemberAfter parking my car off street last night at 11 pm, I arrived at my car this afternoon to find a SPD orange sticker stuck to my window stating that I had been parked in the location in excess of 72 hours and needed to move my car. Not only had I NOT been parked in that location in excess of 72 hours, I now cannot remove the sticker from my windshield. The newly obstructed view prevents me from driving my car!
I do walk instead of drive when at all possible, so I do often park on my street in excess of 72 hours. So, while this instance is not valid, this situation will not cease for me. I do not have any parking with my rental townhome, so I can only park on the street. In this day and age, I cannot believe that someone in my neighorbhood is wasting time and energy forcing me to start and re-park my car every three days. Especially since my street has THREE townhome projects going on and over half of the block is restricted for parking.
I fully admit that I am often in violation of this parking ordinance. I was not last night, but am often at other times. I find it odd that after having lived her for 16 months, these complaints are just starting up. My car is not abandoned. I just walk!!! If someone can explain to me why it is so important that on a street that is ONE block long it is so imperative that I waste gas (starting your car is equal to idling for five minutes) to relocate my car every three days, I will waste away.
Annoyed foot pedestrian,

CaduceusMemberThere should be a form of contact on your sticker in order to make a complaint and to clear that up.

flowerpetalMemberI’ve never had to remove one of those stickers but I suggest using GooGone. Its great at releasing sticky things. Available lots of places. We got ours at McClendons but I think it might be available at Safeway etc. in the cleaning supply area.

MagpieParticipantSomebody has a psycho neighbor. Most people only call the spd if they don’t know the car or who it belongs to. What if you are out of town on vacation? Do you need to get a car mover instead of a dog sitter. How weird!

MikeDadyParticipantI know that there had been a car rancher using the streets in your area (Youngstown) to store his fleet of vehicles. A nearby neighbor was trying hard to rid the area of this jerk and his street clogging fleet. Sounds like your vehicle was caught up in another effort by this person or the construction related parking restrictions is pushing other neighbors of yours over the edge…

KenParticipantThese are only driven by complaints. You have a neighbor with a problem. The spd will not tell you who made the complaint.
The SPD usually chalks the tires and then puts the orange tag on after 72 hours so you might want to check your tires and see if you managed to park in exactly the same space and position you were in 72 hours ago. If not, make your case to the precinct.
The spd usually does not take the word of the complainant but if ranching is going on they might be a bit too cooperative with the complainant.

beachdrivegirlParticipanterin,
i think this gives you a great chance to go meet all your neighbors. it does sound like you had a neighbor call it in. so to make that neighbor know your car and maybe feel a little remorse i would make an effort to go meet all the neighbors…you could even do it innocently as did you car get marked to? How did you get your sticker off? just an idea. :)

erincorrineMemberThanks for the feedback!! I was able to remove the sticker with a razor blade. I did file a complaint with the SPD. Since I didn’t actually get a ticket, I don’t think I need to follow up at all beyond that.
My neighbors are very quiet. Since I walk everywhere, I see them on a regular basis. My smiles, waves, and “hello”s are not usually returned with much gusto :( No one is rude by any means, just a neighborhood that seems to keep to itself more than I am used to. I am from the northern midwest and our neighborhoods are small families there! I know other neighborhoods here in WS are that way as well, this just doesn’t seem to be one of them. This block is also being overrun by townhouses, so I think a few people aren’t too happy about the change their little neighborhood is going through. Since I rent one of said townhouses (ours is really just a duplex), I may not be viewed favorably by this portion of the neighbors. Eventually, I want to buy a house in this little pocket of WS, so I am looking at the other streets tucked back here where townhouses don’t seem to be going in as much and the neighbors are a little more outgoing.
At any rate, it is good to know about the car ranching as this neighbor does likely think that my car is in this boat. I think I will put a little note on my dashboard that my car is not abandoned … I am just out walking :)
Thanks for the feedback!!
Erin
