Feel terrible throwing away a very decent queen mattress that is 15 years old, pillow top, slight indentations from our bodies, and no stains. Anyone know of a place like a women’s shelter or another organization I could take this to? Not a huge fan of soliciting those in tent city directly. Seems like SOMEONE could use this great mattress and keep it out of the landfill!

I have 175 extra ceramic wall tiles (4-3/8 x 4-3/8) for someone that needs them. This would cover about 23 square feet of wall. They are off-white and the color on the 2 boxes says almond. There is also 7 bullnose 4×4 included. Reply to this forum and I will be notified of your interest.

Found along Admiral Way SW in the 5100 block. Earlier in the week I found a black Nike flip-flop (looks new and expensive) and Friday I found a green child’s slip on, looks like it has a frog face or dragon face with googly eyes. Both look nearly new and are hanging on the power pole at the corner of Admiral Way SW and 51st Ave SW. Your kid misses their shoe. Come back and get it.

CarDriver, you’re correct. The bulk carriers wait longer to load/unload than container ships. Usually they anchor in Commencement Bay, Elliott Bay, Yukon Harbor and elsewhere, due to their cargoes, drafts, terminals, etc. Grain carriers cannot load in rain. If the grain gets wet, it will swell and could burst the seams of the ships, which would be catastrophic. Some gypsum/gravel ships anchor in Elliott Bay because of the water depth alongside some of their terminal destinations in the Duwamish, due to tides. It’s sometimes more economical to offload to barges while at anchor. Winters are wetter here, resulting in more grain ships waiting at anchor to load. Seasonally, ships carrying cargoes of road salt will anchor, usually in Yukon Harbor, and offload to barges which are then taken to facilities in the Duwamish.

Yes! Touring ops are great out of both places in the winter! You can easily dawn patrol out of either of them.

You should ALWAYS, WITHOUT EXCEPTION, trust your life to a random, anonymous person on the internet that uses lots of CAPITAL LETTERS and has at best a little bit of an idea as to what you are talking about. ESPECIALLY if it’s completely unclear as to why you would post this question about ski areas in California on a blog based in West Seattle, Washington. I think your compass is broken – start with that.

I’m having the Best Garage Sale Ever sale tomorrow Sunday 11/01/2020 in West Seattle’s High Point neighborhood just East of the water tower. It’s at 7134 32nd St and Myrtle just down the street from the soccer field. There will be yellow sandwich board signs, but it’s pretty easy to find. The garage is in the alley around back, but please park on the street and walk around back, since it’s pretty much a one way alley.

Masks required at all times and will refuse entry to anyone without one. Also, please adhere to a good 6′ plus rule. It’s going to be a nice sunny day, so most of the items will be outside.

Couple people have asked about this via email. My reply:

It’s long been an anchorage – the Coast Guard administers – usually ships waiting to call at Seattle or Tacoma.

Some context in this 2016 story

Why more cargo ships are anchored off Manchester – and why the Coast Guard says it’s a good thing

    ****

Of the two there now, Triumph recently called in Tacoma, and is due next in Vancouver. Morning Cloud is due to dock in Seattle – it’s a bulk carrier so could be headed for the grain terminal (which is busy with another ship right now) or possibly the Duwamish (less likely).

Yep. It’s happening everywhere. Mostly north of West Seattle High School. I’ve witnessed this in progress, and confronted the person who’s doing it. Told me it’s his “right to express himself on public property”. Said his name was Zoey, and that he attended West Seattle High School. I’ve seen him walking around early AM. Vandalism is the lowest priority for the city right now. He could probably do it in front of SPD and they wouldn’t be able to do a thing about it.

Hi Tyler, did you get enough magazines for your project? I may have some old LOOK or LIFE magazines from the mid-1900’s if you are interested. I actually found one from 1963 that mentioned the Christmas Ships in Seattle that, sadly, are cancelled this year.

The Iconic Planters “Nutmobile” Stops by Sound Generations in Appreciation for Meals on Wheels Volunteers

Believing that everyone deserves access, affirms their deep commitment to helping all people, especially low-income and people of color, obtain the services they need while feeling included and respected in a community that affirms aging.

The pandemic has presented disruption to some of its programs and services, but with volunteer support, Sound Generations not only continues, but expands its reach to bring vital services to adults on the aging spectrum through food security, transportation, health and wellness, and assistance services programs.

Sound Generations’ Meals on Wheels (MOW) Program has felt an uptick in meal delivery. Specifically, the West Seattle MOW site currently has 76 active clients and 21 volunteers. They have been averaging around 2307 meals being delivered by volunteers per month (March – Sept.). This represents a 17% increase month over month as compared to 2019. Additionally, this site has taken on 26 new participants since the onset of the pandemic in March. The volunteers have taken on the increased demand for service in stride.

While volunteer support overall is down across the organization, Sound Generations’ MOW program volunteers old and new have been stepping up and showing up to meet the increase demand. Their volunteer’s commitment has never been stronger in meeting the clients’ needs in the face of the ever-evolving coronavirus findings. Simultaneously, they have taken proactive measures to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus amongst themselves and the high-risk population Sound Generations serves. These efforts are to be commended and Planters agrees.

The Planters “Nutmobile” has led them to celebrate this MOW site’s volunteer accomplishments in the face of challenging circumstances. The “Nutmobile has been featured in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and lent its brand to numerous celebrated events from New York’s Time Square to Great Britain. They will be on site at the West Seattle Senior Center located at 4217 SW Oregon St., Seattle, WA 98116 on Wednesday, October 28 from 8:30 AM to11:00 AM. Join Sound Generations as they celebrate the service of volunteers and their commitment to ensure Sound Generations’ programs can continue bringing vital services to older adults at various stages on the aging spectrum.

    Hello neighbors,

Between 11:30 pm and 6 am between October 25th and October 26th, the U-Haul my father in law parked in front of our home was broken into. Stolen was a large box that contained family photos and paintings, cameras, home videos/recordings on discs and tape cassettes, and batteries.

We understand that the electronics are going to be pawned off, but what we are really trying to recover are the pictures, paintings, and video recordings. So if you see a box that is 3×5, painting frame boxes, or what visibly can be described as discarded family photos, please contact us.

We have filed a report with the Seattle PD, but if someone should see something, it would be greatly appreciated.
