I am selling my Blackburn Mag Trakstand Bicycle Trainer for $40 OBO

It is great for training or just staying/getting in shape with your own bicycle during the winter months. It takes up very little room and folds when not in use.

You don’;t know if Dino knows how to balance the checkbook…no one does. He gets his numbers wrong, he shies away from definitive answers with a general ” I am not Patty Murray”. Yes, we know that..we want to know who YOU are, dimwit. So tell us how you’d do it, and don’t make it a pie in the sky scheme. But he’s slick…he doesn’t do that…because I don’t think that he really knows…and that’s damned scary!

    dobro…

facts will only anger those who are invested in hanging onto their little slice of faux reality…

LOL… FOX news and commentary pioneered public fascination with “reality” shows….

    it’s all good television…

    but not much for news:(

I brought my cat to West Seattle Animal Hospital last year to be put to sleep because she was old (16 years) and sick but was told that I had to wait at least 5 hours to have my cat have a complete physical and then have them determine if she could be put to sleep. Really? I was not putting my beloved pet to sleep because I didn’t want her anymore. She was old and ill and in pain and my decision did not come easily. I then went to Pet Care Center (where they were not cute) and they were very kind to me. I couldn’t believe that West Seattle Animal Hospital would expect me to have a complete physical for my cat when I’m standing there with my old, sick cat in a cat carrier and I’m crying.

Anyway, that is my experience. I will not go back.

It was with sadness that I learned this morning from a flyer on a power pole at Lowman Beach why I haven’t seen Buffy recently. It was always a treat to come across Buffy and exchange pleasantries whether i was launching a kayak or heading to Lincoln Park. I am thankful that there were caring folks around to attend to Buffy. Such a nice kitty will be missed.

I second Liberty Bell’s rockingness. Another one of those well-run local businesses we are lucky to have way out here on the island.

Juan was likely an “at will” employee, which means he can be let go for whatever reason. And frankly, he was poor replacement for Ray Suarez. He’ll do just fine with his new friends at Faux News and laugh all the way to the bank.

Slate offers their opinion on his employment status:

I am a fan and supporter of NPR, and I value their reporting enormously. The notion that Juan Williams was fired simply because he violated their editorial standards and practices is preposterous. Other NPR reporters and analysts have expressed their opinions on other media outlets over the years and not gotten the axe (Nina Totenberg, Mara Liasson, and I can probably come up with others). NPR analysts routinely appear on programs that showcase punditry. I think it’s pretty obvious that the issue with Williams is where he spoke (on Fox) as much as what he said (that he gets nervous on a plane when he sees people who identify themselves first and foremost as Muslims).

This reminds me of Jesse Jackson’s comment back in the 1990s:

“There is nothing more painful to me … than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery, then look around and see somebody white and feel relieved.”

Jackson told the truth about his fear, perhaps with more insight than Williams has shown, but its the same idea. Jackson’s observations about his fear of being followed by a person of color didn’t undermine his frequently powerful observations on race relations in this country. Nor does Juan Williams’ statement that when he sees a Muslim on the plane he gets anxious.

    Bad day for NPR.

Anonyme – 102nd east of 35th over by the Explorer West school doesn’t have the same “No Trucks” sign tho’ I’m sure the folks living there wished it did!

Speaking of fact-findery (thanks TR ;-) the property in question appears to be outside the scope of the Seola Stormwater Pond project per the DPD link. However, doing a little research in the King County Permit database shows there have been several violations with leaving piles of construction debris after the tear down (visible in Google Maps, actually) and bringing in fill material in quantities that block drainage on the property.

Can’t find a record of what’s being built but I’m guessing the owners are having the property graded in preparation for building a larger house to replace the teeny-tiny one previously on the property. (It’s fun to look at historical records!)

I hope anyone looking for a great massage therapist will consider Jen and Stephanie at Mean Girls!!! Jen has been tremendously helpful to me in keeping my muscle aches and pains under control – doesn’t matter where they move to once you find a great therapist you follow.

I wanted to give a heads up to all of the West Seattlites that recently got new B of A credit cards (in regards to an earlier thread).

When my account transitioned to the new card, B of A failed to tell me it would turn off my automatic balance payments (auto-pay of the CC balance from my checking account). As a result, my auto-payment wasn’t made and I got charged a late fee and interest charges. After talking to 5 different B of A customer service employees, they STILL wouldn’t return my interest charges until after my payment clears (and even then I’ll have to call back.)

If any of you with new cards had auto-payments set up, make sure you reset them up with your new card to avoid the hassle that I just went through.

    lol, smitty.

yeah, let’s have nothing but corporate news, and whoever has the most cash and access wins the argument. go ahead, take away CPB’s little $400 million (2009) federal grant – which mostly pays to keep public radio and tv stations running nationwide. and, by all means, do away with the charter that says that their broadcasts have to be non-partisan in order to get their tiny slice of the pie.

i don’t agree with CAIR and their influence over CPB and NPR, but what williams said to o’reilly was just plain stupid, especially for someone who is supposed to be a liberal – which i don’t buy for a second.

While all of you are congratulating yourselves on being so correct for villifying NPR, you might want to pause long enough to consider what it means to be a “news analyst”. The requirements are somewhat intellectual but it is also a dispassionate role. If Juan is so removed from current issues that seeing a Muslim board a plane makes him nervous, he is not well-suited for job. Muslims make up the 3rd largest religion and anyone working for NPR might want to get acquainted with a few of them before spouting out uninformed prejudices on that right-wing mouthpiece called fox news.

just a couple quick points, rich. we don’t want a nanny or mommy. we want a government that helps its people stand up again if they fall on hard times. that’s a government i’ll gladly pay for before, say, using our military to pave the way for big business overseas. better payouts in the long run.

for example, what you see as legislation stifling international trade i see as a move to protect american jobs from the investor class. (the blue and no-collar kind, not just office people.)

and this is interesting: i would say that our constitution was created to impose self-rule (something that hadn’t happened since athenian democracy) and to shed tyranny by the aristocracy, royalty, and clergy.

like i asked you before, what is business doing to help the economy right now? throwing a tantrum because democrats are in power? gee, thanks.

i believe in capitalism and wish all entrepeneurs well in the market place of ideas, but business is not the model for government. government has far more responsibility to a vastly broader spectrum of people (i.e. all of us), not just the investor class. government does not exist solely to enable business, and it’s why senators and reps “bring home the bacon.”

it’s what they’re supposed to do, rich. if our senators don’t do that, they’ll get booted. even the stimulus-haters are taking stimulus money for their districts.

spend less? what, is rossi going to be magicaly appointed to some budgeting committee?

no, more like, “spend less time in DC” …playing golf… getting tesoro to fund his next campaign.

don’t start printing the $600 “stimulus” checks just yet.

The best thing to happen to President Obama for 2012 will be the “Pure Evil” (alinsky point) Republicans gaining power in the House and maybe the Senate.

He will have an actual enemy to blame and bash instead of paper tigers and Bush. I mean, really, for him and his administration to attack FOX News? Really? Does the first amendment mean so little. Is his skin so thin? If it wasn’t true it would be laughable.

Our favorite progressive, anti neo colonialist, liberation theology, narcissist, was untested and has made some strange and difficult decisions, while getting some major legislation passed. I would say he has done a good job of pissing off the right, independents and far left. I just hope his golf game has improved. He is out there enough.

Congratulations sir. It must be lonely at the top.

Hiya. I’ve been going to Westside Dermatology, and though I like who I’ve been seeing, I’m wholly fed up with the scheduling approach that hasn’t let me have an appointment within 30-minutes of on-time (once, more than an hour behind). I talked with them today briefly about this before I walked out.

Is there/are there other dermatologists here on the island you’d recommend?
